  1. Coils die slow painful deaths. If the coil lays on its side, they will sometimes miss only when you make a turn or the car is leaning to one side. They will fail when they get hot but start fine when they are cold. The older can type coils use an oil between the coils of wire as an insulator. With time and heat the oil breaks down which reduces the strength of the spark, or can make for no spark at all.
  2. ON a short controlled tow it is amazing what you can pull. It is that doing it regularly thing over a long distance where things get tricky
  3. Well you can drive with the fuse in place untill the Duty C burns out, which may be never, or can be already burned out. If you did all that engine work yourself, you can handle a clutch pack and solenoid.
  4. If you are having a problem pulling codes I would suspect an ecu, but first rule out all the common plugs/wires/coil/fuel stuff.
  5. Ive had AAA longer then I have been alive (inherited my fathers AAA when he died, go figure). I have the plus. Great peace of mind, and man, the last time I used them they were there fast. A saturday night, lost my (Justy) key in a NYC Taxi. The guy showed up in less then an hour, made me two keys in 15 minutes. That was the first time I used them in many years. I wish they would stop sending me all the credit card offers though.
  6. I just want to know if i am going to be there all by my lonesome or not. I just register the day of
  7. When I talked to the subaru reps at the NY Auto Show (they actually send factory people from the headquarters) it does have some differences in the floorpan from the std imprezza.
  8. Pull the plugs again. See what they look like. Check the wire boots for oil contamination. This can be a failing coil after a heat soak (hot) but i want to rule out the other things first
  9. I see nothing about a good old fashioned tune up. Forget the coil pack suggestion. Start with plugs, OE wires, filters and a PCV valve first.
  10. Or use a GPS to do the math. ON a 3 inch lift No change but I stayed with stock tire sizes.
  11. I actually have that gun, but when I used to do strain gauges I used http://www.amazon.com/Weller-WES51-Analog-Soldering-Station/dp/B000BRC2XU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1366424318&sr=8-2&keywords=soldering+station. I dont have that much control with a gun, not to mention i can't find a fine enough tip for it.
  12. Subaru is amazingly tight lipped on the new models. It is amazing how they are a small cat company and keep so many secrets, compared to The Whitehouse with a penalty of life in prison. And you know, other Mfgs have this same problem. GM usually more so, they improve the next years model while they still have this years on the lot and are trying to sell them.
  13. There are a few variations on this, and I have one on PDF but in general thjis is what it is http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/dual-hvac-pcb-relocation-info-53848.html http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63956&referrerid=6661 Thats a long thread but you get the idea. I even have two of them, one backup in case surgery fails the first time Thanks You. I have a plan B but that involves hacking some supports loosing my upper cubby and having two radios in the car And the Virgo in me just doesnt like that option.
  14. Im not sure if that will do the job. This is very fine soldering at its best. I can solder free hand down to a human hair, but not when the gaps between legs are the same width. I am way out of practice for that.
  15. This is like my last ditch attempt to find someone I'll even throw some cash your way if you want. There is a mod for 2005-2009 SUbaru radios with the built in HVAC controls so you can add a real aftermarket radio. I can solder very well, but don't have the proper soldering iron.
  16. Lets back up, how did you test things. I don't remember if this has the parking light switch or not. Next time it happens check to see if there is any power at all. You can have a bad ground cable. Use a jumper cable and go from the neg of the battery to an engine ground and see what happens. Check for rotted fuseable links.
  17. Look in the owners manual. As long as it isnt a turbo (it's not) if they recomned it it means you might find less performance with regular. If it is required (ie on a turbo) you must use premium.

  19. It isnt all that, it is also that there is now a towing standard that the mfgs have started to use. Before there was no real standard. The cvt is a steel belt, and it can slipped if over taxed. Towing standard http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/0912_sae_tow_ratings_finally_pass_sniff_test/viewall.html Granted it is starting with trucks, but others are starting to put thier raitings back in reality for this standard.
