Well i know I am going to swap out the head unit / hvac from a 2009 so I can get my blue tooth to work again. That is good to know if I screw up my swap. -

Looks like changing the timer on the defrosters, lights, alarm etc -
i am reading the manual on the outback to see whats what. the Auto climate control took some reading, some neat features, then there is a page about all these settings the dealer can change for you, but only the dealer can do. i am sure this is not a freebe. Anyone know of any software to avoid the dealer?

The CVT's from subaru have been generally getting better then EPA mpg raitings (outback board info). Final gear ratios are complicated things, but yes MPG does play into it, as well as thrust. You are forgetting the CVT has a torque converter, which multiplies torque. This is one of the bigger reasons for the difference in final drives between auto and manuals.

One time over heat in a car with some miles, step one, replace the Radiator cap. Sometimes that is all it needs. I never said 3000 miles. I am going to say this once then let it go, but long oil changes are penny wise and ollar foolish for something you want to keep for a long time. Blus PO did the once a year synthetic change and at 191,000 miles he threw a rod. you can buy the hype of the high mileage oil's but the weak link is not only the oil filter, which is only designed for X miles of function, But how often does the owner actually check the oil level to keep it full. There has been more then a handful of engines, including soobys here, that have suffered engine damage from the normal consumption of engine oil allowing for the oil levels to drop. I would never again buy a car that has had once a year oil changes. Engines are not cheap, but doubling the oil changes are. This foolishness in savings will usually show up on the next owners wallet, not the original owners. Also exceeding the mfg's interval will result (when applicable) in a voided warrenty claim. Once again I never ever said 3000 miles interval, I just said 13,000 is wasteful and taking a big chance, one that in my book I would walk away from.

Clunk - rear diff rubber mount prbbly. Blu did this, i never worried about it. Temp gauge, who knows, could be a t-stat, could be the 1st sign of a HG issue. Subarus like to tease. Sould even be a bad cap. Oil, personally that bothers me. 15,000 per oil change is a lot of miles. In a lab yes you could do 15K on an oil change, but in the real world, I dont like it. I would prefer to see 5000 - 7500 mile oil changes. Just my two cents

Inches made a difference. It seems my house is a an inch or two higher then my neighbors (same builder). Also we were home when the flooding happened as opposed to my neighbors who left. I suffered including Blu 12,000 in losses. Insurance is covering 4000 so far. 4000 is what i have to pay over the coverage to replace Blu. FEMA hasnt chimed in yet. My neighbors damages run from a low of 15,000 to over 100,000 dollars. So much oak flooring has been ripped out i am debating snaging it to floor my attic.

im looking for the fullphone and ipod interface. I had matching JVC media manager units in both cars, i may do that again. The bluetooth subaru kit is 350.00. the JVC HVAC double din kit is 350.00. i have a list of things i want to do to the new car to make him mine, but this is the first as radio just sucks and i like my hand free phone

While I was out at lunch, they took him away. I wasnt sure if I wanted to be here or not. That leaves 5 drowned cars on the block left to go. I bought this 150952212224. It is the sellers wife's car. Every 3 years she gets a another used subaru since she drives so much. She just likes a change. Mileage was more then i was looking for, but it got me into a newer generation. It has a leak at the Radiator. From as near as we could tell (surprised the seller as he said his wife drives too much to take a chance on a poorly maintained car) it looks like it is a transmission cooling line on a 7 month old radiator. There were no old stains on the garage floor, so it is a new leak. There is some hose that goes to the passenger side of the radiator that looks like a tranny line? Aside from the car needing a jump start, it fired right up. Everything works, needs some body cladding. No biggies. Pretty and clean with a HUGE real sunroof. The Radio. Has anyone found a solution for this beast that is one unit with the HVAC auto climate control? Four days of research i have just come up with putting another head unit in the center cubby to handle all blue tooth ipod functions. Been told it fits and it is much cheaper then every other fix out there. SUggestions?

Not really. You have to look at it as a complicated system of pullies. You have just the crank moving back and forth just a little bit, not enough to turn the cams. With enough jostling, you can easily get the timing belt to jump. In real daily life, the TB would never ever see this kind of stress so it is not an issue. On a truck being delivered, rolling back and forth not even a complete rotation it can become one. And the more pullies there are, the higher the chances of it happenining.

The Subaru Search and Rescue Thread

!989 Subaru Justy, sat parked for almost 15 years 32,000 original miles. -
Tire speed rating takes into account friction, rolling resistance, weight of the vehical, weight of cargo, barking loads, side loads and possible road hazards. If you had your own private highway and was the only car on it, then yes, fine put on wagon wheels and risk your own neck. But you are sharing the road with 100's of other cars, and a tire failing does not just affect you, but can affect someone else too. http://blog.tirevan.com/2011/01/18/tire-speed-rating-its-not-just-about-how-fast-you-drive/
