Difficult to change gears - can't "find" the gear

Mines the same way. I think it's worn bushings in the shifter linkage. Shouldn't be too bad to fix. If you search the archives, there's likely a thread on it. John -

Thrown driver side timing belt?
suprjohn replied to TheWanderer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you've got no place to work, that might be worth it. I don't see the old belts in my shop. I must have trashed them. :-( It's the shop does it, see if they'll leave the covers off; easier repair next time. John -
Thrown driver side timing belt?
suprjohn replied to TheWanderer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There was a thread on this not too long ago. There are two sets of connectors near the fuel filter, fire wall, drivers side. One set it green, one set is white if I remember. One shows driveability codes, one shows code history (if I remember right). The green connected are also connected to set static timing. The ECM is located just above the steering column. It has a small red LED that flashes to indicate codes, long and short pauses. You may have to remove some of the steering column trim tho see the light clearly. I'll look in the shop to see if I saved my old belts. You could site have them to get you by... John -

That looks AWESOME!! Wish mine was an auto. I think you'll be fine. You may have to shift down some as you climb, but I think it will run. Perhaps some premium gas or octane boost would help at higher altitudes. If you come thru north platte Nebraska, let me know, and we can get coffee or something. John -
I tried adjusting my rollers, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm wondering if the exterior wiper strip is just to old and hard to make contact with the glass. For gluing widows, you might use a product called 3M Window Weld. John

Could you move the spark plug wires one tower tho gain more timing? I'm going to have to do this with mine... John

90 Loyale A/C condenser replacement

When I was looking into doing this, they said I would also need an orifice tube, or a thermal expansion valve (whatever they're called). For my money, I guess I would go with new parts. I was going tho have the local community college do mine, but they ran out of time before the end of the semester. John -
I like it. I built something similar for a tractor engine. I welded this one up for my IH pickup engine. John

kindle is useless for posting in forums...lets try the laptop. at any rate, did some more work to the interior today. still needing some decent door handle trim pieces if anyone has some extras... i've also included some pics of the truck bed liner in the cargo area. i love the way it looks! those things that look like scratches, are actually just dirt marks that rubbed right off. questions, comments welcome! john

I never drove mine with the mechanical fan; the fan clutch was toast when I got it, so I can't speak to the power issue. I'm doing the mod primarily because they want like $250 for a fan clutch :-0 and I happened to have an electric laying around the shop. Hopefully, it won't run enough to tax the alternator too much. I am still working on this mod. It is a tight fit, but it can be done. I ordered my temp sensor and fan relay from Watson's street works. I currently have the sensor plumbed into a port on the side of the rad, but the fan doesn't come on, so either idling doesn't get the engine hot enough, or the fan isn't "seeing" the sensor. I know the fan runs, cause it comes on fine if wired direct. I'm thinking about moving the sensor to the upper rad hose. John

Can't help with the wiring, but if you don't have the side market lights yet, I'm pretty sure I've got a set for you. Just let me know. John -

Do you think there's sediment or something in your tank that could be killing them? John
