  1. I bought one of these too, though I've not installed it. I'm a bit confused; there are two sensors in the same vicinity that look identical. Not sure yet which goes where... John
  2. It wouldn't just be a plug for the AT cooler would it? My new read from rock auto had a threaded plug at that location... John
  3. Window weld huh? I'll have to remember that! May I ask what brand of shocks you got and their level of stiffness? I'd rather not go any stiffer than I have to... John
  4. Yeah, even my wife's low slung, luxury old's was getting pushed around the other day. I couldn't get out of fourth on the way home ! John
  5. So my '89 DL wagon doesn't ride too bad for a small car with 260K on the clock. My only complaint is it doesn't seem to like the incessant high winds we get here. With that in mind, is there a combination of shocks and sway bars that might help mitigate the wind effects? I understand its a light weight, high profile vehicle and it's never going to stick to the road like a vette, just want to make it the best it can be. Thoughts and opinions welcome! John
  6. Not sure what you're doing, but I'm still interested! Love pics! Join
  7. I've not seen these before. I'm looking for a set or a driver's side one for my '89 DL wagon. One for the sealed beam headlights, not the composite headlights. John
  8. Sorry Brian, i've got finals tomorrow, so it might be crazy... john
  9. Smashed, if you find that, post a pic and i'll see if it would work. not sure if the speakers are any good, Brian, but you're welcome to them! john
  10. Thanks Guys! yup, updating speakers too. didn't go real high end but they should be adequate for a daily driver. the old ones were some ken woods that the po had duct taped into the doors! lol i made some MDF spacers for the rear door speakers last night, as they are too deep for the back doors. i'll post some pics of those later. john
  11. Here are some pics of my stereo spacer: i put a coat of black paint on both the face and spacer last night. hope to do more install work this weekend. not sure what the extra hole in the face was for on the stock stereo face. i may make a filler panel for it, or use it as a storage cubby for cords and the stereo remote. john
  12. Thanks Guys! i got a refurbed JVC from amazon. great price, lots of features. i'll try to post the model and maybe some pics this weekend. Loyale 2.7 turbo, since i am rehabbing the interior i had the dash out, and the door panels off; i just bit the bullet and ran all new wiring for the speakers, bypassing the stock speaker harness all together. i will also have to make some custom MDF spacers for the rear door speakers. not a big deal. just need more time and money! lol john
  13. Hey All! Started on my stereo install today. I thought maybe I might get by the shallow dash issue since my stereo is a blue tooth player only with no CD option, but alas, still not enough room. Anticipating this, I had some 1/2" MDF on hand and made a nifty little spacer. Fits fine, clears the shifter, I think all is going to be well. I'll post some pics later. John
  14. I'm just getting to drive my '89 DL wagon since its rise from the ashes (still got some rising to do). My initial impressions, are that in stock form, the 1.8 SPFI makes adequate power. It is definitely not OVER powered, but it will go fast enough to get me a speeding ticket. I'm also an avid collector of international harvester trucks and tractors, and there are always lots of new people wanting to know, 'how can I go faster?'. While speed may be 'just a question of money' (to quote one of my favorite old Australian movies), it is important to remember that no lawyer can get you off for breaking the laws of physics. Machines pushed beyond their design envelope, can come apart at high speeds with toxic side effects. Redesign responsibly. The life you save might be mine! lol John
  15. I took the boot of inside, but every thing looked tight there. Problem must be further upstream by the transmission. When I get the car up on ramps to diagnose the 4WD issue, hopefully it will be apparent then. John
  16. On mine, the pink plug was for door speakers... John
  17. I'm no metallurgist, but my first thought was a flaw in the casting. Pretty wild! I'll bet that was busy for a few seconds! John
  18. Assuming they are usable, I think that's a steal. John
  19. I don't think Kumho's get a lot of respect, but we sold a lot of them when I worked at the tire shop and never had many issues with them. I've run them on several vehicles and always had good luck with them. The only complaint I remember was a guy saying their super aggressive mud tires didn't track we'll on gravel roads. John
  20. i'll see if i can get some posted up later. john
  21. i got these General Altimax Arctic's from TireRack.com for $50 a piece to my door. i'm in a bit of a unique position, as i have a friend with a tire machine, and an old bubble balancer. they are made in Germany, and took very little weight to balance. they are pretty aggressive, with a ton of siping. i've not been running them very long, but so far they are quiet and cleared up some shakes and shimmies from the old mismatched tires that came with my '89 DL wagon. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=General&tireModel=Altimax+Arctic i might get an additional set of Kumho Solus all seasons to run in the summer, as i've been told that aggressive winter tires often have a soft rubber compound and wear out faster. I've run the Solus' before with good results on my old Sonoma pickup. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Solus+KR21 john
  22. no durability test as such…i did note that as i was sliding the large panels under the rubber window seal (if you don't have some of the plastic upholstery tools, they make this step a LOT easier in my opinion), the coating scraped off to some extent. to be fair, i was using a fair amount of pressure to get the panel under the seal. just my opinion, i think this is going to be fairly durable under everyday use. more so than paint, less than a true professionally applied coating like rhino lining or linex. personally, i love the look of the satin black and medium blue together. time will tell, but so far, i'm happy with the results. :-) john
  23. i had a bunch of leftover plugs after i reinstalled my dash too. so far, everything seems to be working. not sure what they're for…i also had a bunch of leftover screws…not sure how that happens... john
