  1. Believe the extra holes are for auxiliary cooling lines, such as for auto trans or oil cooler. Should be able to just plug it as far as I know. Not sure how to test the fan. Maybe run jumper wires from it to the battery to see if it runs?? John
  2. My '89 DL wagon has similar symptoms. When I get the interior sorted, I'm going to look for vacuum leaks. John
  3. Hello, It's this a carbed model, or fuel injected? Might make sure the timing is advancing correctly. Others with more knowledge will weigh in soon. John
  4. Could anyone shed some light on the differences between the E81 and the E82 engines? Are they interchangeable? For instance, would this engine/trans combo fit in my '89 DL wagon? Would I be able too swap over my fuel injection and engine management system? Just curious. John
  5. Hey All, Another member here has said that summer driving is pretty hard on soft winter this. This got me thinking that a spare set of rims with summer this mounted might be useful. Anyone have a set they'd like to get rid of for free/cheap? If not, is there a source for cheap rims with the same bolt pattern and offset? Thanks! John
  6. Hey Sdam87, 5.25" in the front, 6.5" in the rear. I wanted to mount the fronts in the stock location, but found that the speakers were deep enough that they wouldn't let the window roll down. They will be surface mounted instead. I ran all new wiring instead of trying to hack into the stock speaker wiring. Here is a pic of how the fronts will be mounted. John
  7. Thanks guys! czny, I did a test fit on the door handle trim, and you're right it's kind of tight, but I think I can get by with it. If not, I'll do like you say and trim it a little. John
  8. I do have a compression tester! Although, it's an older one; would it work in the Subaru's spark plug holes? We could sure try it. When I first started thinking with my Subaru, I had a very similar experience. Siphoned out the old rotten had, put in fresh with a big shot of seafoam. Ran like crap. Finished filling the tank with fresh gas and ran much better! Mine still has a bit of a rough idle, which I think is related to a vacuum leak and/or timing. I'm goin to try advancing the plug whites one more tower, as I can't get the full twenty degrees BTDC as my manual calls for. I'll be in town Monday. John
  9. yes, i haven't been to andersons for many years. so many salvage yards don't keep anything that old around anymore... i can't remember if i've checked with olstens import salvage in lincoln yet or not... keep me posted! john
  10. Hey All, twenty years of sun, sweat and abuse has left my door panels in pretty rough shape. as we know, no one reproduces these door panels, so i decided to take a run at reupholstering them myself. i ordered some foam backed vinyl and 3m adhesive and after an afternoon of cutting an gluing, i have a mostly acceptable result. not perfect, but fine for a daily driver. heres some pics. next, i think i'll paint the door pockets and mount my new speakers. john
  11. Unfortunately, I don't. I'm looking for a manual passenger side mirror myself, for the same reason! lol John
  12. I just got the clutch done in my '89 Ranger at our local community college; no charge for labor, just parts. Would that be an option in your area? I've never done a clutch in a Subaru, but it might not be as bad as you think. Or maybe you could do some bartering. Don't be too quick to crush it. I'm site it has value to someone. John
  13. Off topic, but Gloyale I went to OSU from '89-'90, so I used to knock around the Corvallis area a bit! :-) John
  14. Sorry to hear that man! If I can help you out, let me know. John
  15. Awesome! I'm with you on the Purolator filters. Ordered the air filter from rock auto. Advance didn't have one. John
  16. On mine, the clutch wasn't releasing enough to let the car shift easily, so I adjusted for more free play. Didn't know about the hill holder feature (my first Soob. Lol). Doing that, somehow activated the HH, causing me to drag the back left wheel. Consulted the manual, learned about the HH, and adjusted the relationship between the two. Now have easy (if sloppy) shifting, and the HH to keep me from rolling at stop lights! If your back brakes are functional, the HH might still work. It looks to me like a cable actuated valve that holds pressure in the rear brake line, kind of like a hold valve on a drag racer, or a tow truck. John
  17. Ok, my dash isn't in so I can't measure; how much room are we talkin about here, trim to HVAC? I've got a brand new JVC Bluetooth stereo that is 6.25" from where the DIN chassis catches the trim to the back of the unit. It's this going to fit, or do I need to start fabricating? '89 DL wagon. John
  18. When I did the timing belts on my '89 DL wagon, I went ahead and sprang for a whole kit with new tensioners and idler. I hate doing things twice if I can help it. John
  19. Sound advice on the hill holder deal. That one thru me for the better part of an afternoon! John
  20. I'm looking for a passenger side manual mirror, and a passenger side clearance light for my '89 DL wagon. The clearance light is for the model with the sealed beam headlights, not the composit headlights. Also looking for the door panel that goes on the lift gate for this wagon. I am in Nebraska.
