  1. They have a few left on RockAuto.com Drill down the menu like this: 1978 SUBARU BRAT 1.6L H4 : Body-Interior : Accelerator Cable And you should see it right there.
  2. New Motor Mounts, New Transmission Mount, New Throttle Cable, and New Clutch Cable are on the way. ETA to receive parts is this coming Monday. This should be on the road next week.
  3. I'm researching changing all the lights on my brat to LED. What did you use for your headlights and accessory lights? Any links would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Hi guys, I was just thinking. Gee, wouldn't it be nice to convert all of the old style bulbs to a new, less amperage drawing LEDs? Maybe by converting all the lighting over to LEDs I will be able to run MORE off-road lights?! So my question is this. Can we buy LEDs for all the running lights, head lights, and tail lights? And if we can is it as easy as unplugging the original and plugging in the new LEDs? I've been looking here at their listings, but any better sources? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?searchType=global&N=0&Ntt=1978+Subaru+Brat+LED+Bulb
  5. Hi Moosens, Any chance you have a set of good condition jackman wheels from the 70's? It's pretty much the only thing left to complete the look of my 78 Brat. Apologies as I'm pretty sure I've asked the same people on this forum the same questions multiple times. I can't remember who I've asked.

  8. Okay here is a pretty big update. The new engine internals have been assembled in the block, the heads have also been rebuilt and refinished. Just looking at the motor it looks SO GOOD! While the motor was out I had the engine bay coated in a resilient black textured coating. This should help fight any possible rust and it makes the engine bay look GREAT! Since it was getting cleaned up and sprayed I had the front passenger fender fixed, and repainted as well as the hood. Take a look at the photos and I think they speak for themselves. We replaced the smashed turn signal assembly with a better one that I picked up. The Brat is starting to look damn good. New motor mounts, new oil pump, new water pump, new engine, new heads, new clutch, new pressure plate, new flywheel. I am also having the weber rebuilt on Monday so at the end of this coming week the Brat should be BACK ON THE ROAD! Take a look at the pictures and let me know what you guys think. 9. I know you are looking for something used but you can always buy a new one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-1976-1989-1600-1800-OHV-EA71-81-Weber-Carb-Kit-32-36-DGEV-electric-choke-/271313887887?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ASubaru%7CModel%3ABrat&hash=item3f2b91628f&vxp=mtr
  10. Just wanted to say I'm loving this gauge cluster. Is that a cluster out of a different car? Ive never seen a brat with that cluster before.
  11. I've been trying to call you but no response back all week. Did you still want to sell the parts to me? Hope everything is okay.
  12. It has a Weber on it. Okay, text update tonight. I just saw photo's of the motor at the builder. Oh-my-gawd. It looks so clean I could eat off of every surface! Received my pistons and rings in the mail today and the motor should be all put together and ready to install into the Brat by this coming Tuesday! My builder is using a factory original 1978 Subaru OEM manual for all his torque and assembly settings. I believe his exact words were "amazing" when I pulled that book out. Stay tuned for excitement starting next week!
  13. I just realized something. How do these adapters attach to the stock hubs? I don't see anyway to just bolt them on?
  14. So I currently am in the process of having the original motor rebuilt. The spare motor I had was torn down enough that we found water in places that shouldn't have had water in it, along with some rust. So I'm glad I didn't just try to use it as is. Once the motor gets rebuilt I am planning on using the Brat so that should prove quite quickly the fresh motors reliability. Thank you all for the input.
  15. Do you happen to have the part numbers for all the parts associated with the gen 1 air conditioning system? I've actually got the OEM Subaru technician installation booklet, but it doesn't have any part numbers!
  16. This just in. The broken motor is now at my machine shop. The block has been inspected as looks (and I quote) "perfect". The cylinder walls are perfect. The bearings will need to be .01 over-sized (I believe that's the correct terminology). Now for the not so good news. The second motor I purchased and was planning on using the heads off of, the heads are different. The spare motor doesn't have all the ports on the heads for the emissions equipment to bolt up. This tells me that the "spare" EA71 is earlier than 1978. Well just my luck! Now what? Can I use the heads off the older EA71 motor without all the emissions equipment connectors and hope it passes smog? I want to do this build right and certainly not half rump roast anything.
  17. I'm trying to figure out what I should do. Currently the factory EA71 motor I have in in pieces at my mechanics shop. If you've been following my resurrection thread you've seen the photos. The cold hard facts: Original EA71 motor dropped a valve and shot it through the passenger side head. I picked up a second motor. Junk yard EA71, all I know about it is that if I put a wrench on the crank it turns over. And it looks like it's been out in the elements for years. If I have the original motor rebuilt, will that make the Brat any more desirable having a fresh motor in it rather than a junk yard motor with god knows how much miles on it? If I was buying it, I would rather the car have a freshly built motor rather than the unknown installed. Not only does that provide piece of mind about the motor but it also leads me to believe the previous owner wanted to do it right.
  18. Okay, just got the prelim estimate from my mechanic. The engine builder can order all the parts he needs except pistons. I was told to buy either 10000 or 20000 over-sized pistons. Any idea which direction I can go to buy some good pistons?
  19. I haven't had a chance to visit my brat at the mechanics shop. Anyone have the dimensions of the factory hubs? Or any other info I would need to give to my machinist?
  20. Why not go with something like this? http://www.bassettwheel.com/dot.html
  21. I doubt he is still active here as at-least 3 of us are interested. Before I make some calls and have a set of adapters made/ordered, what bolt pattern would be best to go to? 5x100? 4x100? 5x114.3?
  22. It came with a dual barrel Weber carb so at-least that gives it a little more juice.
