Just refreshed a set of original rear bucket seat, seat belts. Refreshed and installed: Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr Things left to do: 1. BRAT side sticker 2. Take it to my interior guy, have him fix the Headliner, and Shift Boot. (The head liner didn't hold 100% and needs to be fixed in 1 spot. The Shift Boot doesn't stay put in the floor. Need to have that addressed.) 3. Either put ERA-specific Air Conditioning or Brand New Aftermarket Air Conditioning. (Maybe Restomodair.com)

1978 Subaru Brat Restoration
spicypeanut replied to TheBubbaJoe's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Make sure to document everything over here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/forum/20-historic-subaru-forum-50s-thru-70s/ You can check out my build thread as well. I couldn't let the Brat die with the previous owner, just had to save it. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/142864-1978-subaru-brat-from-death-to-life-and-everything-in-between/ -
So any trying to track down bits and pieces of factory AC systems for my 78 Brat, I came across this. http://www.restomodair.com/shopproducts/black-dual-vane-underdash-air-conditioning-system/ It appears to be a all in one self contained unit. It is small, cheap, and sounds like exactly what I want. GOAL: To have working AC in my Brat. Is anyone familiar with something like this? http://www.restomodair.com/shopproducts/black-dual-vane-underdash-air-conditioning-system/ Do I need anything under the hood or do I just hook a power line up to it, mount it and enjoy a nicely air conditioned Brat?

In my quest to install working AC in the Brat, I recently got a shipment of parts in. Who Designed the Subaru Brat, specifically?
spicypeanut replied to Subaruist's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Brat was never sold in Japan. It was designed for the American market. Which is what I've already heard/read. Of course the UK and AU got their own version of it to but it wasn't sold in the JDM. -
True to Original BRAT decal available?
spicypeanut replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I'm thinking something like this: http://s140.photobucket.com/user/Sublime40_photos/media/Brat_zpsde9cce53.jpg.html Maybe go a little deeper on the color Red. And swap the lower stripe color. (black stipe on bottom, red stripe above) -

Amen. I brought mine back to life. It would have been scrapped by the previous owner! I think I should change my username to vulture.. -

True to Original BRAT decal available?
spicypeanut replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Anyone have any input on what color I should go with? Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr I wanted to go with something that is a little more subtle. I was thinking maybe a black decal, with the stripe colors (in order of outside to inside) dark red, black, dark red. with the text being a similar color that the car is painted. Any thoughts? -

True to Original BRAT decal available?
spicypeanut replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Thank you Leeroy, I believe the 2nd one you posted is exactly what I was looking for. Funny that it comes from the same seller. Now the only thing I'm unsure about is the color combination. I was thinking maybe just an all black stripe with white BRAT/Subaru lettering. -
So I was just about ready to buy this guys Subaru Brat decal set off of ebay when I realized it isn't actually true to the original. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-Set-of-Subaru-Brat-Vinyl-Decal-Stripes-/140718438794?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c378f98a&vxp=mtr If you notice, the original Brat decal for the Gen 1 cars ends at the door, and has a nice tapered finish. The reprint from eBay has the stripe going all the way to the front of the car. Another difference is the eBay version is missing the Subaru name under where it says Brat. As well as having extra text "4x4" where the original one never had this. http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/1979-Subaru-BRAT-626x382.jpg My question to the community is, is there anyone that has re-created the original Brat decal that I can order today? Or will I have to have someone custom make me one?

Thanks for the kind words. I've really enjoyed bringing the Brat back to life. I guess I never realized how rare these older Subaru's are. Everyone always talks about the Z cars, and the Datsun 510s being so "rare" but at JCCS you would never know that. The entire show (some 400 cars) were practically all those "rare" Datsun cars. I hope you can get the 73 up and running. If you ever need a hand let me know and I'll do what I can to assist. Have any pictures of the pickup? I think I remember it but not sure, I forgot to take more than 6-7 pictures lol. So I've got 3 sets of wheels for the Brat. The factory steel wheels, the optional aluminum mag wheels, and now 13" Jackman wheels. I recently came across a set of 5 Jackman center caps.... Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr Now, which wheels should I put tires on?!

Brat Distributor and connections
spicypeanut replied to Kenichi's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Before I had the Cat installed, we dialed the timing back. The motor is supposed to run at 8 degrees before TDC. I believe we dialed it back to about 5, if not 4. It still ran okay, but didn't have quite the torque. When the time comes, have it dialed back a little, the exhuast hot, and dont let the smog test guy let the carb load up. Rev it a few times to get it cleared out, and then start the test. If it fails then add a cat. I would call up Redline, they make the weber carb and can show you exactly which one you need. Or check this link. http://www.redlineweber.com/carb-kits/auto/subaru/ -

My rebuilt motor with rebuilt weber passed the high speed sniffer test, but failed the low speed. Once i put a cat on it, it passed both with flying colors. -
Once I get back from my trip I'll have some suprises to share with you all but for now I've got a small update. I attended this years Japanese Classic Car Show 2014 with my girl friend. By the time I got home at midnight we only had a few hours to clean the Brat, fall asleep and wake up at 6:30am for the drive to the show. My girl friend asked how she could help. Well honey, this is how you wax the car. So she wiped it down and waxed the Brat! Something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Super-Hydrogen-HHO-Generator-Kit/dp/B00COSC04K Does this actually work, is it safe to use on a carb'd motor? Or a turbo? Damn so many questions bouncing around in my mind right now.
