  1. Just food for thought, it would be a bad ignition coil. I had a 97' legacy outback that had an issue with misfires and it turned out the coil was my issue. Just food for thought.
  2. I had a very similar issue with mt 97 impreza. What happened with mine was that there is a little switch under the shifter that when the shifter is moved to park will hit that switch and allow the key to be turned completely back and removed from the ignition. For some reason my switch fell off it's hanger under the shifter. When you move the shifter to park you should hear a click coming from the steering console. if you don't hear that then the switch was not hit. My two cents from past experience.
  3. In my experience, a 98 Subaru Limited in good condition would sell to the right buyer for 2500. You might be able to get 3000-3500 with a brand new engine in it but I don't see you being able to sell the car for 4500 easily, like he said. As for the work being done and the quote. I personally don't know enough about the damages that are caused on these engine to give you an accurate answer. My only thing is that you could probably find a junkyard engine for around 600-1000$ and have that put in Might be a bit cheaper... But from there it's up to you and if you want to keep the car or not.
  4. Had a similar problem on my 97' Outback. Ended up being ignition coil. But I would definitely check plugs and wires as well as that coil.
  5. I'm almost positive they are. I have the 6 disc changer that was pulled out of a 02' WRX that is plug and play with my 97' Impreza. Be careful, my stock speakers in the impreza were rated for 35 watts max and that head unit puts out 55 watts (at least mine does) and I blew up the speakers the first day.
  6. I put a radiator in my 00' Outback which was a manual. I just plugged the trans cooler nipples and that was the end of it. Drove the car for another year after that and never had an issue. just my experience...
  7. I've done a similar thing to a car, I changed the fluid and drove it around the block (probably 1-2 miles) I ended up not going anywhere about 3/4 of the way through the trip. Pushed it back, added fluid, ran fine afterwards. If you completely run out of fluid and weren't driving it at like 3 qt. for a very long time, minimal damage will be caused to the transmission (that doesn't make it a good thing though...)
  8. I was just fiddling with this idea. I have a 97' Impreza 2.2L and I was wondering if anyone knows or has ever gotten a 6 cylinder 3.0L into the engine bay. Main questions is, would a 3.0L fit into the engine bay of a 97' Impreza?
  9. I have a 97' Impreza Wagon that has the ability to put it into FWD only mod via insertion of a 20A fuse under the hood. I was wondering if anyone knows if keeping the car in FWD for extended periods of time would cause as damage to the transmission etc.
  10. I think of it this way, if you're getting an oil change for less then 50$ think about the quality of oil and the filter they are using on your car. I'm a mechanic at an independent shop (not one of these monro or juffy lubes) and we get a good rate on quality oil and filter, and we can't even buy the oil + filter for less then 30$ on most cars. So they can buy the oil AND pay for an employee and all the management and upkeep on the business for with your 25$ on an oil change. Short version: Think about the quality of oil they are putting in your car. Plus the skill level and care of said minimum paid mechanic.
  11. I have full glass insurance on my 85' Brat. It costed me an extra 50$ a year and now if ANY of my glass gets damaged the insurance company will find me the piece and get it installed all for free. Not sure if your insurance company has anything like that, but I recently got a windshield put in because of that. Also, this covers the hard to find T-tops. If one of those shatters, I'll get a new one. Something to consider.
  12. I have a 00' outback with heated seats, and I have never noticed them not producing heat after a while. the switch's light does not go out unless I manually switch the heater off. (Sorry not a huge amount of help)
  13. I was wondering if anyone has a roll bar for the Gen 2 brat that they could take a few good pictures and possible some dimensions for me. They are very hard to find and am considering fabricating my own but I have no idea the size etc. Thanks
  14. Ah, cool. Thanks, i couldn't find that anywhere on the internet.
  15. Hi guys, Sorry I didn't know where the correct place for the topic is...But I've been wondering when Subaru changed their emblem from the one of 70's cars to the one it is today. Like adding the blue background and changing the orientation of the stars.
  16. I got a seal for the transmission, rear lights lenses, door switches, and a blower motor resister. Other then that i don't know as I only asked for what I need. But give them a call if you want OEM parts for your Brat. Here's the number for the dealership. (860) 693-7723 Make sure to ask for Jason, he's great at looking up parts for these.
  17. Mitchell Subaru in Canton CT... If you call, ask for Jason he is great at looking up parts.
  18. I just wanted to share my knowledge with everyone on these forums. I recently bought a 1985 Subaru Brat, and upon the beginning of my repair process i discovered that the dealership has many of the Brat parts new and in stock. It may just be my area, but I've bought a ton of new parts right from the dealer for cheap too. So, just my two cents. Good luck
  19. I was looking at your pictures, I see it can tell it attaches to the wheel well. So I'm also assuming it attaches somewhere is the corners near the cab. But after looking at my truck it doesn't even appear that a roll bar can attach anywhere default from factory.
  20. Also, where exactly does it attach to. Do they attach right behind the cab and the wheel well?
  21. I recently acquired a 1985 Subaru Brat. I want to install the rear jump seats which I have but I'd rather not put anyone in them without having a roll bar. I don't know everything about Brats. Does a 1985 4 speed manual even comes factory with a roll bar? I was wondering if anyone has one or how/where to get it made. I'd rather it be original if it had one but when ever I search any for sale sites there is never a roll bar for a Brat.
