  1. And I plan to do an EJ in my Brat before too long. Is there anything I should snag off the hatch to make my life easier later on?
  2. The heatriser tube was MIA when I got the car. Still has everything else in place though. I haven't verified if the flapper works, because there hasn't been a tube there. But I don't believe it was icing(though I can't say for certain).
  3. Ok, not really. That was a stab at the people who were driving the Toyotas and claimed it started to accelerate on them, and they couldn't do anything about it and crashed(I was very ready to kill the ignition if it was going to get out of control). I didn't crash, but I did have my car get stuck at 6k rpm tonight. While climbing I70, I crested a hill and let off the throttle, but the throttle didn't let off. Driving in the mountains, up and down, while the engine tries to hit 6k isn't so much fun. There was a lot of braking involved, because I wasn't about to pull over at 9pm on a Sunday night, in the cold and dark, on the side of a mountainous road. Made it to the gas station, and killed it there. Not having any tools or a flashlight, I was kind of SOL for a bit, until I had a friend come up to give me a hand. After some liberal use of carb cleaner, managed to get the engine to idle back around 2k. A little more, and I had normal idle again. Drove it home, and seems ok. Is there anything that's known for getting stuck? It seemed like the main butterfly was sticking, but I'm not positive. I could see a butterfly down on the rear side of the carb, about 5 inches down. It didn't seem to want to move very freely, but I'm not sure if that's the primary or not. Thoughts? edit: Forgot to mention, '87 Brat with stock Hitachi carb. And I checked all the vacuum lines, couldn't find anything wrong there.
  4. Should be 75w-90 or 80w-90. I don't recall how much, maybe 2-4 quarts?
  5. Got my Hella Micro FF lights all hooked up! Took these lights off my '98 Legacy, as I stopped using them once I got the Morettes on the car. Keep in mind that these pictures were taken about 1 minute apart. The background is darker, because the camera had to adjust for the increase in light from the Hellas.
  6. I don't find it to be that hard. I lifted the front of the trans up and set it on the xmember, then got the floor jack under the rear of the trans. Once up in place, make sure the trans is in gear, and slip the rear driveshaft in so you can turn the gears to get it lined up with the engine, and slip it in. These aren't all that heavy transmissions, so they can be man-handled fairly easily.
  7. Found it today, not in the imports section of the Denver Pull n Pay junkyard. I grabbed the seats out of, as they were good condition grey on grey suede/leather seats. It is a C4C vehicle( ), so the engine is hosed. But seemed mostly still in tact, probably because it was with all the Fords(at the very front of the lot, to the far right). Green, 1992.
  8. See, now, I turned the radio off as soon as I noticed it. I just put a brand new Kenwood in it, and had no intention of replacing it this soon. I didn't have the wipers going all crazy on me though. And just for good measure, I bought some battery terminal cleaner, and some anti-corrosion stuff. Spent a few minutes cleaning the connections well, then hit it with the purple anti-corrosion to prevent any issues there. I was inspired to do this yesterday, when I went to start the car and it clicked without actually starting the first time. I figured I must have had a loose connection(or enough corrosion to matter), despite having just tightened down the battery terminals.
  9. Ok, swapped the alts, and that fixed the problem. The alt on the '87 is a reman'd unit. I did remember a ground that I meant to fix, and forgot to on the '85. The one directly below the battery had rusted out, and was hanging by a thread. I cut off the connector, and put it to some better sheet metal in the same area. Hopefully that helps the alt out a bit. Didn't have a chance to test voltages yet though. I seem to have misplaced my multimeter at the moment.
  10. Battery is brand spanking new. I bought a new one after replacing the previous alt, as I was unsure of the state the battery would be in. I did check several grounds before, but I will go back at them and make sure everything is good again. I guess I'll swap the alt from the '87 onto the '85 for now, and see if that fixes it. If it does, I guess a Maxima alt is in my near future.
  11. I just drilled holes in my bumper to mount a pair of Hella Micro FF lamps. No tapping, just drilled, put the bolt through, and with the grill off, put the nuts on the other side. This is on an '87 Brat. The grill is a tight fit to get back in and out now, but it's doable. If I moved the light forward about 1/4" more, the grill would go in a lot easier.
  12. What gives here... '85 Brat, this seems to be the second alt the car has gone through in the last 6 months. First one that the car came with, started losing the voltage regulation, and would occasionally spike up to 18 volts. Now tonight, while climbing I70, the alt(that is actually a junkyard alt) is basically doing the same thing, only more consistently. It started hitting 18 volts, and would drop down to 13 volts at idle. However, all the red lights stay on now. The voltage, brake, parking, and whatnot lights all stay lit, though dimly, when the car is running now. Bah...
  13. And to those of us that don't have a color code chart handy?
  14. I know the choke functions: I watched it close after pushing the pedal down, and started the car and watched it open(at least halfway, then I turned the car off). I need to check more into the fast idle adjustment I suppose, and cold compression.
  15. Appreciate it, but as I said, can't get to it at work. Finding where it was, wasn't the problem. It was getting to it at work. But I have it now anyways.
  16. Would you be interested in selling the whole thing? What kind of condition is it in?
  17. Did you check the date of the original posting? Over a year old... just sayin.
  18. '85 Brat: When the car is started at cold, there is a very clear miss as I hold the RPMs up. If I just start it, and don't rev it up for a minute, it will idle very slowly and eventually die. So long as I hold the RPMs up for a minute, when I let off, the idle goes to normal, and all is fine. Plugs/cap/rotor/wires are all new. I thought maybe valve clearance would be in issue, but I checked under the hood, and it tells me no adjustment is necessary, so I'm guessing hydro lifters in this. What is the next thing to check? It seems to me like it is only on one cylinder that the miss occurs, and only when cold.
  19. Nope... no category, so it is blocked. Thanx though. But I did manage to get myself a copy here at work. I tried a link on my phone(can't actually use the phone inside though), but at first couldn't get it to work. I managed to email myself the file as an attachment though, because my phone downloaded the pdf to try and open it(failed to open, but saved successfully).
  20. I wanted to read through a certain section, and I'm stuck at work. I can't actually get to the sites that host it here at work though. I was hoping someone might be able to attach it to a post here, and I might be able to download it that way? Might have to rename the extension on it though.
  21. Where do I get them? I'm not talking about the normal sized ones that go on the door panels, but the tiny ones that hold things like the roof panels in place on a Brat. Anyone have an online source for them?
  22. See my last post. I had no intention of driving it like it was, and it is fixed now.
