  1. By the way, I have a 'Roll Bar' welded into the unibody of the Brat to give it more rigidity. Back to the real question..... what if I used 2 heim joints (one male and one female) to replace the rubber 'dog bone'? I now have (at full compression) about 4.5 inches between the centerlines of the attaching bolts on the sway bar and the lower control arm.
  2. Pardon me........... what was I thinking? It says Sway Bar Bushing Kit on Rock Auto for my other car. DUH
  3. No such luck..... I had it on the ground.
  4. I know I've been asking a lot of 'off the wall' questions lately. Soo here's the next one. Has anyone lifted an Impreza Outback and not been able to reconnect the sway bar licks? Now even under full compression, the 'dog bones' will not line up with the ears on the lower control arms. Does someone have a solution other that cutting the tabs off and relocating them? Or heating up the swaybar and bending it?
  5. Thanks again..... I'm looking at the Power supply Routing Wiring Diagram and in the 'Fuse/Relay Location' picture, which relay is the AC Compressor relay? I'm sorry to ask these stupid questions, but some of this is 'Greek' to this old man.
  6. What I forgot to mention was that I had to eliminate the AC compressor due to a lack of room for installing the coolant tank reservoir. I had hoped that I could eliminate the AC circuit and use it for the power window circuit that the Brat had but the Impreza didn't have. Do you think I could eliminate 2 of the 4 relays you mentioned?
  7. Thank you very much. I will try just what you suggest.
  8. Thanks for your help. I have installed everything from my '95 Impreza Outback donor car with OBDII.... combo meter, steering column, front suspension, rear suspension, all except the heater box and the HVAC controls.
  9. Thanks for the info...I am using the complete EJ wiring harness and I have the wiring diagram, but it appears that the blue wire and the green wire are both 'hot'. I planned to split the fans, two to one plug and one to the other plug. The thermo sensor on the EJ system is not in the radiator, its on the engine. Do you think I can just eliminate one of them?
  10. Since I had to lower the Legacy radiator in the Brat chassis and the EJ22 engine is only 4 inches from the core support, I had to eliminate the factory fans from the back of the radiator. I purchased three 8 inch pusher fans and have installed them in front of the radiator, but still behind the grill. The factory electrical connection has three terminals (one black, one blue and one green wire). The pusher fans only have two wires (one black and one blue wire). How should I wire this up? Has anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks,
  11. Ok guys and gals, I'm back at it again..My first try at adapting my turbo cable to the EJ motor didn't look very safe after I put everything back in yesterday. What have you all used to adapt the EJ22 throttle bracket to the EA81 accel pedal?
  12. ok thanks..... the Legacy/Impreza cables are different, aren't they? They go to the rear wheels and the EA81 and EA82's go to the front wheels. Are they interchangable?
  13. Just got my XT6 front calipers that I hope will fit on my Impreza brake assys. Do I now need Loyal brake cables to make this work? With the Impreza front suspension on my 3" lifted Brat, the original Brat e-brake cables are now too short. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  14. Started to install the Impreza wiring harness under the dash.. it's like stuffing 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound sack. Got the fuse box mounted, but had to cut into the engine compartment to get the main harness past the heater box and over to the passenger side so I could mount the ECU in the footwell. There were so many wires that I had to remove the A/C unit and take out the cooling coil. Its back together now, but the A/C will never work again. LOL...Also started the modification of the Automatic shifter lever.... the old Brat one had the little orange button to activate the 4WD solenoid on the old automatic trans and the shift pattern was missing a '3' in the selector...and the lever part below the chassis is on the drivers side. The Impreza unit has the lever on the passenger side and will not fit in the 'factory' spot so I completely modified the original unit to fix all the 'problems. If you didn't know better you would think is came from the factory
  15. Thanks for the quick reply.... you did an awesome job on this project
  16. Nice job on the brakes..Are the calipers from the XT6? What master cylinder are you using? I tried to use the Impreza master cylinder bolted to the Brat power booster, but the reservoir is tipped forward because the power booster from the Impreza (that won't physicaly fit in the Brat) is tipped at an upward angle when mounted in the Impreza or the Legacy (my other donor car).
  17. So....after all this BS...I decided to clean out the interior so I could work on installing the Impreza wiring harness..... guess what I found... the original speedo cable from the original '83 auto trans.....same threads to mate in the Legacy trans, and this one has plastic threads so it can't seize up in the belhousing....LOL
  18. I still have the complete 1.8 Engine, turbo and all. I think I still have the auto trans someplace around here. Front engine cradle with the power steering rack too. $200 takes engine and trans.. $50 for the rest of it....... but I can't ship..... sorry
  19. BOARD MEMBER: themixtoo BODY 83.5 Turbo Brat ENGINE: EJ22 OBDII TRANSMISSION: 4EAT 4.11:1 from '96 Legacy SUSPENSION: 3" custom lift w/hidden roll bar WHEELS: 15" stock subi's.... maybe I'll use my 16's off my 2.5RS OTHER MODS: Removed upper side rails and center piece between Fun Tops..... now it's a Targa
  20. Legacy trans and engine are now in the Brat. The Legacy trans oil pan was rusted beyond repair so I swapped it with the Impreza trans pan and at the same time changed the filter. Changed the engine oil filter and fresh oil for the engine too. No new ATF at this time because I also swapped the trans cooler lines from the Impreza and the lower (front) banjo fitting is now leaking...I'll go to my local Subby dealer tonight and order the correct copper gaskets for that, then the ATF will stay in the tranny and not on my garage floor.
  21. Your frame idea looks awesome... I already installed a hidden roll bar and removable door bars on my Brat so that I could cut the center support out between the T-tops and turn mine into a targa. The only part of your design that 'worries' me is the support (or lack of) between the rear struts at the top. I had to add a double brace between the rear struts to keep them from flexing. This now limits the use of the cargo area (I know, who cares). So now I need a tonneau cover so it will be hidden.
  22. There was no way the speed sensor would come out without a fight. Had to break off the plastic connector, get the die grinder out and trim the aluminum housing down to exactly the 17mm size of the piece the screwed into the bellhousing. Then had to tap the 17mm 6 point socket on to what was left and finally I was able to extract it. What a bitch..... The metal that the speed sensor is made out of is much softer material than the alloy used in the bellhousing, so trying to remove it with a 17mm open-end wrench is not very practical.
  23. Before I set everything aside 10 years ago, I did the same mods to the rear Impreza diff/cradle and struts. Now that I look at it today, I think I might redo it and move it back about 1 inch, to center the rear wheels in the original Brat opening (thought I had it set back in the day). I modified the instrument cluster to accept the Impreza combo meter(if you didn't know it you couldn't tell it's been modified) I installed the Impreza steering column and pedal cluster with the Impreza master cylinder and brake booster. Made new longer steel brake lines and replaced all the rubber hoses, new rotors, rebuilt calipers and pads and rear brake shoes. Now its out of the mothballs and I pulled the 2.2 EJ engine from the Legacy and tried to mate it to the old(er) Impreza transaxle. The dam torque convertor slipped out too far (I even wired it in just in case) and it wouldn't go back in all the way (tried 4 times) and then the engine wouldn't rotate for me to put the flexplate bolts back in So now I'm trying the Legacy trans, but some things are just not the same. I will add pix as I proceed.
