just reread your post, it sounds like you didn't rebuild the heads, so maybe my advice doesn't apply. I would still hook up the exhaust though.

Hi there, I wouldn't run a fresh rebuild without the exhaust hooked up. You need the back pressure to seat the valves. I was told I needed at least a y pipe to do this.

Hi There, welcome to the forums, I also have a 79 4wd wagon, and I have a ton of extra parts I would like to get rid of, so let me know what it is you are looking for and I'll check if i have it. Let's see your car! pics? -
1981 GL wagon... yea! with photos.
the sucker king replied to zyewdall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
where did you get it? -
For what it's worth, I have used more that one junkyard strut and never regretted going that route.

Check the fuel seperator- small plastic tank mounted behind one of your rear quarter trim pieces, near one of the rear wheel wells. they notoriously do this- I am not sure what leaks, Maybe somebody else could tell you. I would start by looking over the hoses where they go in/out of it.

Whats up with 79?
the sucker king replied to distinctive's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Is the difference in axels the u joint type rears vs. the cv axels? I was surprised to see cv axels on my 79. my 77 had u joints. -

Mine has the two headlights too- but the extra hookups are on the harness for the quads. I figured it was a dl/gl type thing, but I don't know. Mine also has the same steering wheel. Came with cloth seats. I think the wheels on "Butter" are the calimasters. Didn't know they would fit! Biff- I would NEVER part the car out, I got it running and I drive it now, my plans are spelled out in an email I sent to you a while back, I will give you first shot if I ever want to sell it. -

Vacuum advance hook up question
the sucker king replied to Brat78's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
the other one you can just cap to keep the spiders out, it's the retart and some disties don't have them anyway. the one on the top of the vacuum unit is retard the one ont he outside is advance and goes to the carb. -
Just found something really interesting
the sucker king replied to KNOPPER's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have the parts for you and will take a pic of how it should look for you later today. -
I am doing a clutch tomorrow on a gen one wagon with AC. I have done many clutch jobs, pulled many engines. Never on a car with AC though. what is the best way to handle the AC as far as ease and mess. ie where do you disconnect what. I have no idea if the AC works in this car anyways if that makes a difference in how you would handle it.

Heater blower failure
the sucker king replied to rrgrr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
glad to help. Yes Bentleys manual, the best one of all. Not as vehicle specific as a FSM but easier to use and somehow just as complete for most things. -

looks like it's right next to the fusebox: -
These have only one strut for the rear gate, and this one is good. $20 shipped sound good? My paypal is flappysprintshop@yahoo.com Shortysayhi- the seats are torn but usable. Probably better than the ones in your forest brat. I think the recline mechanism was different for brats but the seats would bolt in. you can have them if you can come an get them within 2 weeks. I can send you pics.

Weber on a 1400/1600?
the sucker king replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I've run them on a couple of 1600s, works great, used the same jetting and adaptor as an 1800. -
I am taking the radiator, a brake caliper, drive shaft, pretty much everything else up for grabs. Don't want a lot of money, just don't like to waste and I also don't want to end up on a hoarding show. This car has the quad headlight set up, is very rusty, I don't know what all is good, if you need something please ask. All I know is it has a bad headgasket. need to haul it off to scrap as soon as I can. shipping something like a transmission is not something I want to do, so locals only on that sort of thing, Are there even any other CO folks on the board with gen 1 cars? used to be a few.
