  1. crawling gears skid plates bumpers push bars spare tire mounts
  2. does it look like this? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/pushbar/pbar-s1.jpg these bolt to the tow hooks and then there are 2 straight hangers that take the weight of the push bar. you should see 2 bolt holes, one on each side of the bar. most people run the hanger from there to the bumper bracket.
  3. i recently looked into rebuilding an lsd, and the kits are no longer being sold as such. it was not economical to buy the individual clutch plates either, but that was here in the u.s.
  4. that doesn't look quite right. it may be the holly weber 5200, wich i think will be less powerful. it is a very similar carb and will work on a soobie, but it's not quite the same as a weber 32/36 dgev (or av the one in the pic has water choke like av. i say go with ev the electric choke) i had problems with hitachi carbs for YEARS! i am nothing but happy with my weber.
  5. car will run smoother. choke problems dissapear, more power, mileage will be better or remain the same, most of those hoses don't need to be hooked up, you will just take them off. it will sound better and look cool. what else? do it.
  6. my side of the story is in the meet and greet thread here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=275306 3.2 beer is easy to find in moab. cheap hotels and hookers are not.
  7. here's a pic of joel: http://img238.echo.cx/img238/5531/00004613ra.jpg glad you made it home otay. i will reiterate it was an ef'n good time. we'll be back soon i am sure
  8. you damn well better be! and after reading my post i better clarify that joel's car isn't totaled or anything. it just wasn't about to hold any oil! pics soon.....
  9. well here's a summery. i drove all night friday and found joel 7:00am saterday. since i don't need to sleep we went and did the top of the world trail. it was really fun with a couple real challenging spots. we got to the top and there was a youn couple in a cherokee. he had just proposed so we took their pics for them and hung out. a view so amazing i won't even try to explain. on the way down i realized one of my lift blocks had fallen out. so i limped it back down the trail where it intersected with the kokappelli (sp. i know....). joel went off the long way while i headed back to town to fix my car and was to hook up with joel at the brewpub that night. in the meantime joel messes his car up bigtime (i'll let him explain that) in the middle of nowhere. undrivable. i get much needed sleep in town (i had been up for 40 hours straight) sunday morning joel finds me in town we fix my car and head out to his abandoned rig on the kokopelli and i tow him 14 miles back to pavement where triple A will tow him for free back to junction. 7pm sunday we part ways, i head home. all in all i had a great time. we didn't do nearly as much trail riding as we hoped to, oh well.but the trails there are amazing, a weekend in moab is a blessed thing. we will be back soon i am sure. plus i had no idea my car could be used to tow so effectivey. joel, drop a line so i know you arrived safely, thanks for the good times. and a p.s.: we were both VERY happy with how our cars performed on the trails.
  10. no no, i know what the blm is, im in CO. it's not just in AZ, blm is part of the dept of the interior. i'm asking who gave you this info? are you saying that washes on blm land are fair game? really there's usually no restrictions on most blm land you can drive anywhere as i understand it (although it's not nessissarily ethical). so what is differant about a wash in the eyes of the blm. there are plenty of restricted areas (for wildlife or geology) on blm land where it is posted you must stay on trails. i wonder then if washes in these areas are concidered trails? i guess i'm asking you to clarify what you meant.
  11. not till friday. pm me your phone # and i'll call when i get a better idea. you be around friday? i'll pm you my #.
  12. well here's the thing about reschedualing. i'm all for more people going, but being that this thread was started 3 months ago, and people can't get it together in that time span to go, is another week or two really gonna make a difference? who would actually go if we waited another week or two?
  13. hey jared, what do you mean by what the blm instructed you? i am real interested in land use. is a drivable wash open for driving? that sounds like water use (boating) thanks, john
  14. does anyone do anything to protect their axel stubs ( at the rear diff or at the wheel bearing) while driving without a rear axel due to a welded diff? i'm thinking in terms of protecting the wheel bearing, not an issue?
  15. no worries, send me the core whenever, i'm in no rush (obviously).
  16. my 1,000 post AND i used the insult FARIES! shawn, can you change my title to "great fisherman"
  17. no, i talked to joel and he sais you're all a bunch of fairies. we will ride moab next weekend, or else i will apologize and ask to rescheduale.
  18. that's too bad roc i hope something happens and you change your mind. if it's any consolation, my car's been in the air for a week, and it doesn't want to come down anytime soon. i'm sure that i'll make it happen though. so i'm a little worried cause roc's out, joel's car won't run right, don't tell me i'm throwing a party and nobody's coming. joel, what about your housemate? anyone else gonna show? mr. mendo? i've booked the rolling stones saturday night, please come. what about this snow? you guys get hit up there? we're supposed to get 15 to 30 inches here but it's only raining now. this storm was passing through four corners at 6:00 tonight, i'll bet moab got some. i hope there's not another storm next weekend. somebody say you're going. wasteland, you have to go. you're the one with the book.
  19. i think to mount an 1800 in a 70's wagon you would need the crossmember from a gen 1 brat with an 1800 motor or fab one up yourself. i think that x-member could be found in some 80 and 81 brats. not sure about rear driveshafts, probobly want to get that from the brat too. horsepower gain is about 10 hp. i honestly didn't notice much difference between my 1600 hatch and my 1800 hatch. i converted a 2wd 1980 1800cc hatch to 4wd. that's what i would do with your wagon. i was glad i did it, but either way, it's all doable.
  20. are all 4 shoes in a set exactly the same, ie where they go doesnt matter?
  21. as far as towing, you will probobly be more limited by the 80 horsepower engine than you will be by the suspension
  22. if your hatch is an ea81 or ea71, than it does not/ should not have coilover rears. that shock set up is correct. as far as the fronts, i don't now how they interchange, but mcbrat put rx front strut springs on a brat (with some additional lift blocks)
