  1. so it sounds like nobody but me can get down there till friday night, being that it'll be dark and all, there is a blm campground at big bend, just northeast of moab on rt 128. it's right on the river, should be easy to find in the dark, as long as you're good with a map, meet there friday night? roc, i'll stop by on my way through and check out the hot turbo action. then i'll probobly go to junction to my bro in laws and find joel as well. looking forward to it. vroom vroom.
  2. aye we was replyin at the same time. look above yer post. i'll be through junction midday thurseday?
  3. i'll be ready, i haven't done anything to my car, but it's my every day driver, so it's allways ready, right? i still need to put the welded diff in and two front axels, and a tune up. thanks to shawn i have what it takes to stop the oil leakage. i'll do that too. less than a month to go. i think we'll have some fun. oh yeah, alittle "body work" is what i need too... gonna put on crappy fenders. THAT'S where i'm at. where camping? dunno. i'm hoping to be out by gateway, CO thurseday. so shall be an early bird, when will everyone else show? p.s. roc, thanks for the canoe tip, i can't buy now, cause of tight funds, probobly this summer, but definately send me leads like that one.
  4. i'm a little confused, but i think you own a 79 brat and want to put a d/r tranny in? if so..... to use a d/r tranny with a 1600 cc engine you will need to swap the bellhousing from a late ea71 (i think '85 and up) on to the block. if you want to take the crossmember and engine from an '81 brat with a 1800 cc engine you can mount the 1800 engine, tranny (grab that xmember, too, as it might be different) into your older brat. or i may have misunderstood the situation and you can ignore me.
  5. ishe now i'm confused. my bad i though the fe was a hardtop. it was basically the "two door sedan" then? i know it had different stuff under the hood. so was the gf the ONLY hardtop in the 70's?
  6. it's pretty much the ea71 hardtop ('75-'79). they didn't make a dl or gl hardtop, just gf and fe. the gf was the common one, the fe was rare. for a pic, find a pic of a late 70's coupe, then imagine a "gf" badge on the back.
  7. you "can" do anything....... but they didn't make a 70's coupe w/ 4 wheel drive, so my guess is it would take a bit of fabbing, drilling new holes, etc. it wouldn't be like the ea81 or ea82 cars where everything pretty much swaps in.
  8. oh yeah. (actually i have no idea what my car would do at 14,000. i CAN say though that it has no guts what so ever at 12,000.)

  10. a month and a half to go.....who's ready? not me. but i will be! very psyched. so it's lookin' like the colorado offroad subie prom.
  11. i have a couple sets in different colors, excellent shape, $10 a set. check with shawn first, cause he's got them CHEAP.
  12. what i mean is does your hatch look like this: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/1985-b.jpg if so, no timing belts. a gl should have an 1800 though, not a 1600. maybe one was swapped in? anyways they are WONDERFUL cars. i'm from lyons, population 1600. it's on the other side of rocky mt nat park from you, near estes park. i spend a good deal of time west of the divide in the summer. i don't ice fish. i like the colorado from pumphouse (near kremmling) to silt. trout, whitefish, suckers, whatever. my absolute favorate is the lower yampa (from hayden down). never fished your neck o the woods.
  13. lazear, huh? not a big town. you have a fish hatchery though, right? where do you fish? the colo and the yampa are my favorates. oh the car- sounds like a nice car. you did pay the premium. is your car the lillte hatch with overhead valves or the bigger hatch w/ timing belts?
  14. i ordered it from redline in california. it was $50.
  15. i've not had any problems with my weber when starting, had it for a year, much better than the hitachi, which had a tempermental choke. the weber runs WAY smoother too. maybe something is wrong here. really my weber fires up every time, no problems. i have heard they are prone to icing though i've never experienced it. worth it? good god yes.
  16. i've got a couple more for you, mick. i've been holding out. will talk to you soon.
  17. i did it with an 80 hatch and the ONLY holes i had to drill were to mount the 4wd shift lever. the diff hanger holes were there. of course it could differ from year to year. also some people complained about having to bang more space for the tranny. mine started out as an auto, and i had no issues.
  18. i make it three! where we are going is still up for discussion. i would like to camp somewhere near the river if it's fishable when we're there. i think there's a decent size campground at big bend, just north of town. if i'm vetoed on the river camping, so be it. i suppose a headcount would be helpfull to decide where to stay. i'm can play it by ear if need be. i'm starting to think this won't be that well attended. the fewer folks going means less planning neccassary. i figured people would need time to plan if travelling long distance. doesn't sound like a whole lot are. oh well, prove me wrong!
  19. good tires = the most important thing
