  1. yeah. i wouldn't complain. you have a car lot that turns over every 2 weeks. what's more annoying in going back to a yard you haven't been to in 6 months and they have all of the same tired half stripped pieces o crap as last time you visited.
  2. for this we need an emoticon that is throwing up. sorry, nothing against you.
  3. got enough crap stuffed in the back of that car tim? nice t-tops.
  4. some boots have ribs on the inside, i was told they last longer. i think they are only $15. the right boot keeps ripping cause it's so close to the exhaust. i think some folks have had luck with a simple heat shield. not realy a heat shield but a simple piece of metal to guide the hot air away from your axel boot while moving.
  5. here's an update, i hooked a few people up, no enkeis, no 14's. lots of 13" alloys. see this thread for what is still available: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=198181
  6. i ran without it for quite some time with no trouble. i put one in just to be safe. i also have one you can have. i could send it w/ your imaginary jacket.
  7. DUDE! up in fin flon they have the burbot fishing derby every year. i've allways wanted to go. i'm the worlds greatest fisherman, yet when i've tried to catch burbot in NW ontario.....nothing. i've seen big rump roast burbot from flin flon though. don't you have the world record up your way? john
  8. i took apart e pre '80 ea71 and the valve rockers wer held on by long bolts. on a post 80 they were slipped over studs and were held on with nuts. subtle but different. i've also been told that a hydro lifter ea71 will have pushrods with different tips.
  9. all ea81s are 1800s. ea71s are 1600. look for the stamp as mentioned above. older ea71 engines (pre '80) have the stamp towards the rear of the engine on the drivers side.
  10. the 2wd tortion bar assembly i have from a hatch seems the same where it bolts to the body. if not, you still wouldn't need to convert to 4wd, just swap tortion bar assemblies. the 2wd gas tank should be ok with out a diff, especially since it will be lifted. i still say it will work fine.
  11. i don't see why you'ld have to be creative. you leave the mustache bar step out and you'ld have a couple paperweights
  12. why not? is seems to me it would work, you'd just have a couple blocks left over. or were the sedans somehow different?
  13. i converted a 1980 1800 auto 2wd auto hatch to 4wd, and i didn't think it was that bad, but it was time consuming. i have heard, however that it is more dificult to convert a manual to 4wd because the tranny and therefore the tunnel is skinnier and the 4wd tranny won't fit without banging or cutting the tunnel. i don't nesseccarrily believe that, though on the 1980 models i suspect that the bodies were all the same. also a 1600 4wd tranny is pretty skinny. so i say go for it, but get a donor 4wd car so you have all the parts right there, otherwise you'll be making lots of trips to the junkyard as this and that come up.
  14. i have a set of 15" alloys i'm asking $125, have centercaps and lugs. i'm waiting to here back from a couple people, but lemme know if interested. by the way the last set of wheel i sold cost around $40 to ship.
  15. i saw one in a junkyard. it was turbo 4wd. no lsd, but trim just like an rx. it was white (3dr coupe)
  16. that would imply that the 2wd and 4wd (ea81) crankshafts have differant bolt patterns. this can't be. this does matter to me. i was planning on mounting a d/r 4 spd on a ea71. can anyone explane why it can't be done? edit: is it possible that the fatcase ea71 bellhouse would not allow the 4wd ea81 flywheel to clear? were there no 4wd std's after '84?
  17. what is it that prevents you from using the later ea71 sidemounted starter bellhousing with the four wheel drive flywweel and clutch mounted to a 4spd d/r? i was under the impression that you could do this. will the flywheel not clear the bellhousing? i thought that bellhousing was the same as any other ea81 bellhousing, except with bolt holes to mate to the ea71 crankcase. so you should be able to use a 4speed or a 5 speed flywheel, clutch and tranny. what is it i'm wrong on?
  18. thank you very much for the info. i don't suppose you could email me the truetype font you have to meatpile@earthlink.net ? i would much appreciate it and would return the favour! you would like what i send you.
