  1. although the car i'm about to tell you about doesn't fit in exactly with what you say you are looking for, you should think about this. i know where there is a 1983 gl10 wagon with almost NO RUST. i saw some superficial rust but had to get on my hands and knees to find it. it has no engine or a bad engine. being a gl10 means it's fully loaded power everything a/c and has a sunroof. i'm telling you this car is in just about the nicest shape i have ever seen. it was offered to me at $500 as is or $800 with a good used engine thrown in the back, you gotta put it in. also i believe it was an auto (it's been a while) and may have been front wheel drive. converting a car with an 2wd auto over to four wheel drive proved fairly easy for me (time consuming, but problem free). i also have an 83 wagon for parts and you could take all the 4wd goodies from it, no charge. this may be more work than you want to take on, but it will be one hell of a car. you won't find a nicer ea81 wagon. i can offer help in fascilitating the deal. i should add that the car is in boulder county about 4 hours from you
  2. i would call a gl10 touring wagon rare. i've never seen one.
  3. i figure i should give y'all an update. i have not yet returned to the shed. all i can say is i will go there probobly sometime before the end of the month. since i will be fronting the dough, please retract any requests that you aren't going to be ready to pay for in a reasonable time frame. i will let you know when i go on my shopping spree.
  4. i had a radiator split at the seem and run bone dry while i was on the highway (in an ea71). i didn't notice till the guage was pinned, i lost power, and was spitting blue exhaust. i pulled over, let it cool, refilled it and limped to the baseball game. after the game we refilled, drove 45miles home with one stop where we cooled down and refilled. then i replaced the radiator, changed the oil and she lived many more years. i don't recomend this, but i was impressed that the car handled it. i really thought i killed her that day.
  5. looky here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19605
  6. bump. can anyone else offer me anything? what would the cam on a late 70's FE say? can anyone at least say if a 79 fe has the same cam as say a 79 GF?
  7. here's an update, i hooked a few people up, no enkeis, no 14's. lots of 13" alloys. see this thread for what is still available: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum...ad.php?p=198181
  8. wow. you had a le car. havn't seen one in years. my friend works on this crazy renault that looks like a le car w/ big fender flairs. it's turbo and in his words it will take a corvette. there are very few of these cars around. anyway, you could swap out the grill and light set up with an earlier car (82 and older) or any std. some had square and some had round, but all stds or pre 83 hatches had two headlights and didn't have the ugly honeycomb grill. the body of the hatch never really changed, so any should work. i think brat and coupe grills of that era should work to, but check me on that. some of the older grills have the cool pop up centerlamp (called a passing lamp or cyclops) the older ones had even more unatractive plastic. sorry.
  9. i thought i measred 185/80/13 at around 22.5". is it me or are the manufactured specs always off. are they measured full thread with no weight?
  10. ea81 w/ weber. still accelerating at press time.
  11. on a ea71 the fsm calls for special tools can you do without?
  12. i think it was the guy with the board name archemites put something similar on a hatch and made it fit w/ some banging. his were 15" but similar diameter. get in touch w/ him for details.
  13. 3m part no. 051135 "plastic and emblem adhesive" also has #08061 on it. works great and this is exactly what it is meant for. i should add that i got it at car quest.
  14. chiltons id's cams as 1600 has 51 stamped on it and 1800 has 72 stamped on it. well i was told when i bought my dual carb 1600 jdm engine that the cam and heads were different than your average ea71. the cam is stamped "66" or i suppose it could be 99 but whatever. anyone know any of this? also "g" is stamped on the cam, closer to the big gear. supposedly brats and FE's have different cams too. does anyone have any info? even just to say what # is on your cam?
  15. jdluiokirang! (jeez dude lighten up i'm only kidding i'm really a nice guy)
  16. in 1980 the ONLY 1800 engines were mated to auttomatic trannies. so if it's an ea81 engine with a standard trans, it would have to be a 1981. maybe that helps.
  17. hi shawn, i'm an hour nothwest of denver, and i generally stay away from denver aside from baseball games and junkyards, but if there's anything i can do lemme know. what's with the iowa migration? eyesore then you. nobody is actually from colorado. i moved here 15 years ago from the east coast. eveybody here wants the door to closed right behind them. the truth is there's not enough water here to support the population. usually we complane about californians and m*******s. now maybe iowa folk? actually i wish you the best in finding good digs and decsent jobs. i may be able to help you unload the truck, just touch base closer to d-day. i know the state vey well. i've been fishing and wheeling all over. once your settled and ready for fun, i can be a better asset.
  18. this is on the jdm ea71 (late 70's) that i'm rebuilding. i have an early 80's ea71 i could take heads from, but i want to use the original heads if possible. there is a sleave inside the exhaust port on the underside of the head. it is heavily damaged, peeling back. can it be replaced, and do you even need it?
