  1. that sounds like it would work. but couldn't that do some damage? and yes the beellhousing is off and all bolts are out ive checked and checked and checked. there are 9 bolts, 1 nut, plus one or two bolts underneath (inside the pan) plus a peg inside the pan. even with 1 bolt still in, i should see the block starting to crack. i'll hit it w/ penetrant and let it soak overnight. then should i heat it?
  2. thanks for the replies, but all the bolts are out. i've wacked it a bit more, but it still won't split. any other suggestions?
  3. an ea71: all the bolts are out, cylinders 1 and 3 are facing up, and the two halves won't separate. i've tapped around with a block of wood with no luck. any suggestions?
  4. i don't think they will clear, but you may be able to turn them around (inside facing out) and have it rollable. you still want those brat seats?
  5. is it possible that the "new" carb from redline was actually a reman and they put an electric choke on it? it wouldn't make sense that the stamps mean nothing.
  6. whats the best way to repair i small tear in vinyl? i remember years ago there was a product that involved glue or tape and touch up paint.
  7. any issues with this? they look pretty similar. are the barrels the same size are they all 28/30?
  8. yes i did ed. i pm'd you and we'll work it out from there.
  9. it is now a CONFIRMED pain in the rump roast. removing the windshield was a great idea that i would not have thought of on my own. thank you. maybe it should have takin me 30 minutes after that, but it didn't. it took a lot longer. let's just leave it at that. i'm glad i did it though. this dash is beautiful. i'm going to put it in when i get around to replacing my windshield. that will not only help with those top bolts, but manuevering it around will be a lot easier. again thanks for the help.
  10. also in the news today police in japan found a skeliton in pajamas on a matress in an abandonned building. the guy stopped showing up for work.......20 YEARS AGO! no kidding.
  11. the only straight-ish would be an ea71 (1600cc), i think. and there would be bell housing issues in that you would need a ea71 bellhousing from a post 84? ea71 engine.
  12. ok i won't touch it, unless it's still there at close (they close at noon or one on saturdays ya know) in which case i'll grab it and offer it up to ed. in fact ed, i owe you a favour i said i would send you a shirt for a delinquncy on my part a while back. do you remember? well i do. it looks like one way or another you'll get an lsd. if it's still there, which i must say there are a lot of 510 guys roaming the denver yards. but hey, fingers crossed.
  13. it let's air into the manafold when decelerating. it's either for better gas mileage or to prevent backfiring or both. and i think it's why my car has been backfiring since i put a weber on.
  14. if your talking about Colorado Auto Parts off of south sante fe,, i can tell you that i've bought 2 diffs from them. one time for $50 and one time for $75. if you buy it there don't go to the young prick with the bald dome, go to one of the older dudes. if you decide you don't want it ($75 or $50 plus $25 to ship plus 1/2 hour to pull might be more than you were hoping) let me know, cause i'm going there saturday and i'll buy it if not. but if you all want it i won't lay a greasy paw upon it. if i run into you rsm, i'll say hello.
  15. maybe it's like the gl 5 but with crappy seats? are they vinyl? i've had a 1980 hatch std and a 1980 "1800 dl automatic" hatch. i am interested in where the dl5 fits in. what about the guage cluster? i'll bet you have a very rare subaru there. that and 35 cents gets you a phonecall. i'll bet it's just like my "1800 dl automatic" only with a ea71 with manual trans. what's the headlight situation? square or round?
  16. thanks for all the replies. as i suspected, it sounds like a huge pain in the rump roast. so i guess i'll do it then. any tips on removing the one from the junkyard (man i hope it's still there) ie: anything that will save me some time? gd- i just may take the whole harness as you suggested, or maybe i'll talk to you later about that cluster. corky- i think it's an 86 gl hatch. do what you can. much apreciated. my email is meatpile@earthlink.net mick- i owe you money. i know that. now would seem like a good time to pay you huh? don't be afraid to threaten me. i respond well to threats.
  17. i found an uncracked dash for my hatch in a junkyard. i'm wondering if this is worth it. i tried taking a dash out once with no instruction, got frustrated and gave up. now i've looked over the fsm instructions and it seems straight forward. who has done it? how much time? how many curses? also, this dash is from a late ea81 hatch. mine is a 1980. they are quite different. i know the later one will fit, but how much trouble am i buying. the guage cluster is not digital, i assume the connections are all compatable. the clusters do not swap right? if i take the dash i take the cluster. what's involved in hooking up the tach, i don't have one now, but the new dash would have one.
  18. the carbs on mine look like the standard 28/30s. is there a model # stamped on the carbs somewhere?
  19. i was told that the jdm motor had different heads and cam. i can't notice a difference in my heads, and i haven't cracked the block yet to look at the cam.
  20. is it the springs and only the springs that you swap?
  21. i got it. send me your email adress and i'll send it to you tonight.
