  1. i see you're online. you in colorado yet?
  2. i read that water injection wouldn't help a carbed car accept for those with really high compression. but...... this guy where i work put two water injecton systems on two cars friday and was blown away by the results of both. the first was a store bought kit wich went on a carbed buick regal from the 80's. the guy who sold the kit said it would help ANY car to get more power and better mileage. the second he put on his own truck, a fuel injected chevy from the 90's. this set up he built with a valve he had and $14 worth of hardwear store stuff. both cars got a very noticable increase in power. if it could help a regal, why not an ea81? turbo cars are supposed to get the most benefit from this. anybody tried it on a turbo subaru?
  3. there isn't a whole lot available in that size outside of allweather radials. unstudded cooper weathermasters would do you great on road and off, but they ain't cheap.
  4. well i've driven it since saterday and it actually rides fine. in fact it no longer pulls to the right. in a couple weeks i'll replace both sides and get an allignment
  5. if your friend wants to sell it let me know! john
  6. i know this aint good but.... today i went to replace an axel, on my 4wd '80 hatch and i broke the axel castle nut on the ground and lifted the car in the air and when i went to remove the axel nut the rest of the way, the top strut mount ripped completely and separated from the car. it was ripped before, but i had no idea it was that bad. so i don't have a spring compressor, but i have a couple of strut assemblies complete that were on the same hatch when i bought it, but it was 2wd then and they were marked "sedan" on the top rubber mounts. they also had an indicator for forward. i know i've seen struts that you mount one way for 2wd cars and turn them around for 4wd, but these ones i had would only go on the forward way and still mount up to the wheel bearing housing right. i saw no indication of what side they should fit on. so i replaced the entire strut assembly. now i don't want to do the other side with the matching 2wd assemble since in the next few weeks i will just replace both front strut assembly's (the ones on the car have 300k on them). so for the next week to two weeks, my 4x4 hatch will have the left front strut be a 4x4 strut placed for a 4x4, and the right front strut a 2wd (non adjustable) from a 2wd sedan, placed the same as a 2wd sedan. i know that i can adjust the left (4wd) strut down, as the 2wd strut makes the car sit 1" lower than the left, which is adjusted all the way up right now. so i should adjust that tomorrow. i drove the car, and it drove fine, so am i only going to burn tires quicker with this set up, or do i NEED to put the other 2wd strut on the other side? i notice that the toe in is drastically different from side to side. as i said, i will redo the entire front suspention in a week or two, i guess i'm asking is it safe to drive like this in the meantime. the two struts seem to take off in entirely different trajectories. my bet is the only bad thing is i will wear my tires badly for a week or two. \ what do you think?
  7. and kosta- do you have stuffit? i have a slow dialup and i don't like to send a bunch of pucs less i can compress them. send me your email addy.
  8. DUDE! ive been thinking exacly that. you could do it with any motor. your sketch is just what i was thinking. my dual carb manifold the mounting points are too close together for a weber 32/36 and it would be overcardberated anyway. i'm looking into a couple of 28/36 or some weber one barrells. but with little mini manafolds on each side, you would have more options.
  9. i think the only dual stetups pre- '80 was jap domestic. dual 1600 was also stock on a ea81 style hatchback called the SRX. i think that was for the european market. i have info on that car from an early 80's brochure from europe. as far as pics, i have a jdm dual carb set up from the late 70's but not in the car. i have pics of it on the workbench. if you want i'll email them to you. send me your adress and do you have stuffit? maybe i could also scan the SRX page from the brochure if your interested.
  10. h styles are ugly and common, i would consider the snowflakes rare. you should snatch those when you see them. edit- now i see you said enkeis-probobly rarer yet.
  11. i remember that thread. my 2 cents is this. i didn't notice a difference when a went from 175/70 to 185/70, nor did i notice when i changed from 185/70 to 185/ 80, had i skipped the middle step, i suspect i would notice. regardless, subarus are so ball-less that no matter what your size of tire, we might all benefit from a not so tall 3rd and 4th gear
  12. ea71 pistons can be used in an ea81 and will give you higher compression. the carb can be used. nothing else i can think of.
  13. hang the tranny from the body of the car (at various points in the engine bay) with ratchet straps. make sure the ratchets are placed so you can tighten or loosen if need be. god bless ratchet straps.
  14. my carb is a dgav, but has an electric choke substituted. the dgav 32/36 is stamped right into the base. and i tell you, the adapter that redline sent me is crappy workmanship.
  15. INTERESTING! i've seen mention of the early dual range 4 spd before, so anyways i have an '87 4spd d/r in my car now. and yes i hate 3rd and 4th gear with 185/80/13's on it. mostly i hate 4th. you think i would benifit from finding an early ea81 d/r trans? BTW i heard there was a difference in ea81 flywheels over the years, any truth to that? ie. this year was heavier than that.
  16. i rebuilt the weber ($10 at the junkyard) myself. got the air filter for $12 from my mechanic friend. got the filter frame for dimes at a junkyard. the one thing that pisses me off is that the most expensive piece for me is the adaptor ($50 from redline) and it is poorly drilled and i suspect came w/ the wrong hardware. arggh. i'm thinking that i will send this back with a note to take pride in what they do. $50 is overpriced for this piece unless it is quality.
  17. the weber is rebuilt. i got the filter. i got the adaptor plate (shoddy workmanship!) now the only thing is the install. will it all fit under the hood? i know there is a low profile filter, but i hear it doesn't breath so well.
  18. do you happen to have the part #'s for the mac and snap on tools that work w/ our cars? their trucks pull up a couple times a month right in front of my work. thanks
  19. or a tool that will work as one? and if they do, do you have the part #?
