  1. i was told by the guy that owned it that the heads and cam were different, but dunno how. when i get time soon i'll take the heads off and compare them visually w/ the heads from an old std i had. i'll let y'all know what i find. i was also hoping the serial # would tell what year, but i guess it's fairly irrelavent.
  2. i watched this last night. three of the most heavily modified subarus you'll ever see take on some nutty rump roast trails. it really was pretty entertaining. the terrain ranged from "my car probobly could do that" to "no way in hell could i do that" to "how did they even get up there to try that?" these guys show you how to break things! i thought that was kind of cool. i would have liked to have seen more in depth coverage of the on trail repairs. anyone who doubts that these cars can be built to compete with serious 4x4s will be convinced. the lesson learned here is BE PREPARED! lots of on trail repairs were done but they did them and apparently made it home. one other amusing thing here is the occational ornery comment by your narrator, i'm assuming it's eric. grumpy he sounds. so if your interested in off roading subarus, it's 5 stars. tim robbins gave depth to his charactor and catherine zeta jones was wonderful as the countessa. and "the beast" is well....... i'm at a loss for words. you gotta see that thing. good work, eric. very inspiring
  3. bump i guess what i really want to know is if this engine block was originally mated with the dual carb manifold. that might tell me what should be inside of it. can anyone tell anything from the serial # above?
  4. well....... the same guy i got this from has at least one more, in a car that i'm considering buying. if i don't buy it or if i come across another while rumaging through his crap, i'll let you know, but i wouldn't bet on it. but you are officially first in line.
  5. i'd say it all depends on what you're looking to spend. if you can find a good '80-'84, they are arguably the most dependable, you already have one for parts (and you loved it), AND they are cheap to buy. there are a couple from that era in the denver post right now. good luck.
  6. it's what canadians call an ea81 hatchback. zefy, what is the difference between a chaser and the hatches you have seen lifted?
  7. a while ago i made a great deal, $150 for a complete dual carb ea71, history unknown. today i picked it up and brought it home. i was told it had different heads and cam than your run of the mill ea71. it has carbs on it and everything! only things missing are air filter housing and a distributer. my question is can anyone tell anything from the engine serial # stamped on the block? it's NO648498. i'm wondering if this is a JDM engine? what year? the ea71 stamp is sideways towards the back, so it must be pre '80. anything y'all know about these engines should help. what differences should i look for in the heads and cam? i have a post '80 ea71 taken apart for comparison. the plan is to rebuild it and put it in my magnificent RUST FREE '80 hatch. also i assume they are hitachis, but i didn't look to make sure and it's dark out the engine is sitting in my driveway in the back uf a pick up truck, i'll look tomorrow but anyone know which model of hitachi they should be? maybe whoever won qman's manifold + carb setup would be kind enough to contact me and compare notes?
  8. i have a tank from an '80 hatch you can have if it will work in your car. i'm in northern boulder county.
  9. hi yall. i wanted to drop a line to let you know that i am sorry to those i have not yet responded to (emails and PMs) regarding last minute shirts. i will let you know soon, and for the most part i think everyone can get hooked up (steve- i'll get a baby shirt) anyone who didn't pay mick yet should do so or your shirts will be offered up to the public. mick- got your request. no problem real busy, dad's in town and we're gettin drunk and watching hoops every night. no time for subaru. tonight i ditch him in the mountains and that will free me up a little, so hang tight you'll here from me soon. bye.
  10. thanks everyone for the kind words. your a great crowd. no whiners in the bunch. for those who paid and were not on the list, i'm sorry i haven't contacted you yet, there's only 3 or 4 of you, but i keep forgetting my list at work. basically, i'll ship those as soon as they are completely filled. sometime next week. if you get ants in your pants, drop me a line and i'll see what i can do.

  12. i haven't been able to spend much time on the board lately, so here's what's up. i am in the middle of shipping these things out. i must appologize for being a little late. shipping stuff out individually is not the usual protocal for me, and the way the world works is that when you try to go above and beyond, you get busy and sidetracked, etc. but anyway a lot of people have stuff in the mail and everyone else will be out thurs or friday latest. (save for a few people who ordered late and people who haven't paid and i think 2 people who i can't get their items right now. i will email those two soon.) if a mod will sticky this, i'll post tomorrow all the folks who have stuff on the way. and when you get your stuff, if you have any problems, contact me thru email or pm FIRST rather than rag on me for a screw up. problems may arise from time to time, but i take care of things when they do. and by the way you will LOVE these shirts.
  13. dave, get in touch with me if the lsd is bad. i meant what i said, i won't leave you hangin. i can't help you solve it , tho. i don't know enough about them. did you put 3.9 gears in it?
  14. i got cooper weathermasters 185/80/r13 this year. got studs, and my car is friggin UNSTOPABLE through slow slush and ice. best snow tires i ever owned. hands down. they even look kinda big and mean. whitewalls to the inside on black wheels.
  15. well....... you said wagons and brats........ does this have to be a 4wd vehicle, beause i have a line on a couple (2wd) '79 coupes with the original shocks plus a '78 4wd wagon w/ original shocks.i could get #s for you.
  16. i thought it controlled the tilt forward and back of the engine. i did a 4wd conversion and the last thing to put in was the rear diff, but the drive shaft wouldn't go up to the front of the diff where it mounted. too tight. so i adjusted the pitching stopper all the way forward and that was enough to make the difference. when you take a tranny out, the manual tells you to adjust it back so the tranny will slip out easier.
  17. so i am not accused of highjacking, please see this post: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11092 cause i want to know more about finding webers at junkyards.
  18. as far as at the junkyard, what makes and models (and years) of cars are worth looking under the hoods of for a weber that would work on our cars?
  19. ok i honestly could not tell the difference when i switched from 175/70 to 185/70. i also could not tell the difference when i went from 185/70 to 185/80. i bet if you went directly from 185/80 to 175/70 or smaller, you would notice, but i wouldn't bother. it's not like all of the sudden you'd have a race car, and i would trade the clearence for the performance gain. that's my opininion and i'm stickin' to it.
  20. yes for sure, i have used two wheel drive axels on a 4wd car. and i believe craig to be right about strength. if you look up part #s the axels are different for 2 and 4 wheel drive. but it will fit.
  21. i want the bellhousing if it's got the side mounted starter.
  22. email me your adress. i have one of those parts lists that show up on ebay from time to time. i can send it tomorrow. i think it's all early 80s
  23. syphon- i have almost an identical problem and i'm 99.9 % sure it's the carb. i've done the filter, pump, plugs, alt, dist cap, wires how's this sound: after driving a good while and running fine, you park it and go into the store. you come out, it starts fine, you start to drive, and at the first stop light when you go it wants to die, like it's not getting any fuel. sound familiar? it's got to be the carb i say. someone was selling a used weber for $50 in the marketplace this week! i got one from edrach a couple weeks ago for $75. the rebuild kit cost me $25, the adapter plate will be another $35. AND the weber is easier to work with than the hitachi (if that's what you got) however on a side note just to be sure check your charging system?! i had a voltage regulator go bad once and since the fuel pump runs off of the alternator, it was causing me funky problems that felt like fuel starvation.
  24. i have an lsd for sale. if you want it, email or pm me.
