  1. i hope your not talking about action auto recyclers cause that lsd is sitting in my shed now. someone had definately tried to get these axels off. only one was rusted on and had a taperred punch and part of the spring pin stuck in the stub. i dropped the diff to the ground sorta like brian said and just kept at it like by the sea said. eventually it was pounding on the axel with a BFH and prying it off with a bigass screwdriver that claimed victory over said lsd. it took about an hour. i side note: this lsd was olso the topic of this thread: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6487 it behaved like an open dif when i first found it, but seemed fine when i went back. another side note: ByTheSea: you better get back to me about that vlsd cause now i can pull this trade off without you, but i'd still like to send it your way if you want it. so be in touch, eh?
  2. thanks for the input mick i'm on it! sounds like all i have to do is verify that it's an lsd and it's worth getting. xsnrg- what i meant was that running an open diff behind the full time tranny would not be wise, right? wouldn't it kill the diff or the tranny?
  3. cool...... so has anyone used those coopers (in any size)?
  4. were there any 4wd sedans (of the ea81 body style) made? i know they did 4wd coupes, but i don't think i ever saw a 4wd sedan
  5. ezap- it was a 3.7 lsd snowman and dr rx- i don't think it had been swapped out, cause it was an rx and had the fulltime 4wd tranny, so wouldn't they have had to swap the tranny out too? unless that's why it was in the junkyard. mick and rx and any one else- i've never opened up a diff to see what all is involved. how hard is it to rebuild? what should i look for before i spend money to make sure it can be salvaged? i would like to get it this weekend if it is still there and the price is reasonable. help me please!!! and cole98- you can pull the whole pumpkin and the goodies are in it and can be swapped etc. so either way, depends what you are doin.
  6. i've used that size tire for years, but i've never been able to find a snow tread. only all weather. and i don't have a good one to recomend. i get tires at a junkyard cause my car handles like rump roast and eats rubber no matter what i put on it. PLEASE let me know if you find that size w/ a snow tread. i would definately buy them.
  7. i saw this car at a junkyard today. it said "star edition 49/100" on the side. i took that to mean #49 out of 100 made. it looked like any other 3 door coupe. had power windows and such.
  8. i found an lsd at the junkyard in an rx. the rear wheel was hard to turn and the other rear wheel spun in the opposite direction like an open diff. it had the lsd label, is that something that could be fixed or is it shot?
  9. so why wouldn't you want the full time 4wd for off roading, lack of low range or is there something inherently bad about full time?
  10. i'm telling you that aint true. i pulled the axels from a ea71 hatchback with the STARTER IN THE MIDDLE and put them on my ea81 with the STARTER ON THE LEFT. i aint sayin the ones from the 70's weren't different, tho. that i wouldn't know. the ea81 bellhousing on the ea71 is elusive..... when you're looking for one.
  11. well i know thats not completely true, as my ea71 hatch swapped axels with my ea81 hatch. maybe i should rephrase the question: i need a front axel for my ea81 hatchback. what cars could donate? i think it's agreed that right left are the same. so could i pull an axel from a brat, sedan, or hardtop? what about an ea81T? oh and yes your std hatch (84) would have the wide bellhousing. starters on the left, right? so your from rifle huh? only two things come from rifle.........
  12. just making sure before i go to the junkyard, no difference between right and left front axels? also i've put axels from a wagon in my hatch, i would assume brat axels would work too? what about sedans and hardtops. what about ea81 turbo axels, are they the same as non turbo?
  13. i though you posted an article on fitting jackman wheels on 80's cars, but i couldn't find it in the usrm. what's the deal?
  14. oh. i was told the heads and cam were different and it would take some doing to get it bolted on. do you know the story behind your manifold, like what kind of car it came out of?
  15. hey, boob- did that intake manifold come with this engine? if not, does it line right up, i was told the heads would have to be shaved considerably if they were not the heads made for the dual carb set up. what's the skinny?
  16. so is that to say that the 5 speed is no better AND no worse for offroad? or is the 4 speed better for offroading?
  17. this is driving me nutty. on the old board i posted a topic call "hesitation on acceleration." never figured it out, and it's back. here goes. it's a 1980 hatch when the car is warm, been driven around a bit and usually left to sit, like i go into a store after driving to the big city (boulder), i come out, start the car. when i go to pull out, let the clutch out, the car starts to go, then bucks me forward. it wants to die, it's getting no fuel. sometimes it makes it to second. my reaction is to stomp on the clutch and rev hard and save it from stalling. it doesn't stall, i can pump it and work the revs up, then relealse the clutch and it will go, like crap. once i get the rpms up, we are ok again. it only does it when the car is warm. it did it in the summer, i thought it was vapor lock. the bitch is back.
  18. thanks for the info- if you can ever get a picture, hey, cool.....what is the "l series" mentionened in your sig?
  19. yeah whatever you could dig up i would like to see. very much. i just found an engine with carbs and all. where was this car you saw, in the u.s., or on some island?
  20. i see you're online. you had said something about a model of hatch (ea81 body) called i think a SRX that came w/ dual carbs. where did you get that from?
  21. i found a guy with a '79 "fe" he sais it stands for fuel efficient. looks like any other 70's coupe. i think it's got a souped up engine, might not be anything that was marketed in the u.s.? he knows these cars well, so i don't think he's speaking from his butt.
  22. my 1980 fsm doesn't cover brats. just wondering why? do they have there own fsm since they were essentially the previous platform during that era?
  23. i was wondering if 13" subaru wheels would work on a peugeot 505 w/out issues. i found a car for a couple hundred, was thinking of swapping wheels and reselling it. i figure the brakes or tie rod ends might rub.
