  1. so is that to say that the 5 speed is no better AND no worse for offroad? or is the 4 speed better for offroading?
  2. this is driving me nutty. on the old board i posted a topic call "hesitation on acceleration." never figured it out, and it's back. here goes. it's a 1980 hatch when the car is warm, been driven around a bit and usually left to sit, like i go into a store after driving to the big city (boulder), i come out, start the car. when i go to pull out, let the clutch out, the car starts to go, then bucks me forward. it wants to die, it's getting no fuel. sometimes it makes it to second. my reaction is to stomp on the clutch and rev hard and save it from stalling. it doesn't stall, i can pump it and work the revs up, then relealse the clutch and it will go, like crap. once i get the rpms up, we are ok again. it only does it when the car is warm. it did it in the summer, i thought it was vapor lock. the bitch is back.
  3. thanks for the info- if you can ever get a picture, hey, cool.....what is the "l series" mentionened in your sig?
  4. yeah whatever you could dig up i would like to see. very much. i just found an engine with carbs and all. where was this car you saw, in the u.s., or on some island?
  5. i see you're online. you had said something about a model of hatch (ea81 body) called i think a SRX that came w/ dual carbs. where did you get that from?
  6. i found a guy with a '79 "fe" he sais it stands for fuel efficient. looks like any other 70's coupe. i think it's got a souped up engine, might not be anything that was marketed in the u.s.? he knows these cars well, so i don't think he's speaking from his butt.
  7. my 1980 fsm doesn't cover brats. just wondering why? do they have there own fsm since they were essentially the previous platform during that era?
  8. i was wondering if 13" subaru wheels would work on a peugeot 505 w/out issues. i found a car for a couple hundred, was thinking of swapping wheels and reselling it. i figure the brakes or tie rod ends might rub.
  9. if you use an ea81 tranny, it should fit fine w/out any banging of the tunnel.
  10. about 30 minutes from fort collins and i go a lot to the western part of the state (near flaming gorge) i know a lot of 4X4 places in northern colorado. where are you? be in touch. also do you fish? if not you should.
  11. yes both my 1980 1600 and 1800 had external regulators
  12. i had great success with mothers on alloys. better then brillo for me.
  13. my wife saw this thread and said we're a bunch of dorks.
  14. i've seen this designation on cars from the ea81 and ea82 era. whats it mean? is it an options package?
  15. jf2ac75b3jg222590 what model? it looked like a rx, but was not marked as such. it had an lsd.
  16. thanks for the oppinions all, i'm gonna take this slow and i'll be taking a real good look before i leap. probobly never will leap on this one. as far as the difference in the heads, turbo heads have less compression, no? can you use the manifolld for the fuel injection, but not use the turbo?
  17. first off, i know nothing about turbos.i found a 83 turbo wagon (complete) at a junkyard this weekend w/ only 120k on it! the guy wants $500 for the engine w/ manifold, fi, turbo and everything. we don't know whats wrong w/ the car. here are some questions, just to start, i'm sure it will bring up a dozen more. oh, and getting the whole car is not an option. he wants too much and the body ia not in the condition that i want. 1.) what's it worth/how much would you pay? it's lower milage than i've ever seen, but we don't know what's wrong. i've got no problem rebuilding it, and i could probobly get him to include the harness. oh, and they pull it, not me. 2.) how big a pain in the rump roast do you figure to put it in my '80 hatch. it's probobly more than i've taken on before, but hey, it's a challenge. what are the biggest obsticles? 3.) are these engines worth the hassle? my mechanic friend sais ea81Ts are pure crap. what are the downsides? (what goes wrong with them) what are the benefits? 4.) the engine looked clean. and had no obvious cracks, what should i look for to make an educated guess as to wether or not it's good? edit : 5.) would i be better off just getting the turbo and fi junk and putting it on the ea81 i already have? i was under the impression that there were some differences w/ the heads as well.
  18. what kind of car did you put it on and what kind of differences do you notice?
  19. i see your on line right now. gimme 5 minutes and check your email. thanks, john
  20. ummm.... i think that was aimed at me. but my name isn't brad and i didn't bid. i am not king william. as i said, i was going to bid at the last minute, but didn't. and i don't get it, should i have not bid, just cause you were in on it? anyway, the original question, where do these originally come from? what cars?
  21. moosens just won the manifold for this (ea71) set up on ebay. does anyone know where these come from? were they ever stock? aftermarket? someone in the marketplace forum said they made 'em for ea81 as well. what's the deal? p.s. moosens- i was planning on ambushing the auction with seconds left, then i had computer problems. probly just as well. email me if your up for bribary.
  22. on saturday the 13th at the aurora pull n save i stashed a brat bumper/bull bar with the intention of retrieving it this week, which i can't do. if any of you colorado folks want it, email me for explicit instructions on where it is. i hate to see it go to waste. it's only 37 dollars including tax and core. i was just short a little jingle, cause i unexpectedly found an lsd (can't stop mentioning that.) edit: it's this kind: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/pushbar/brush-w.jpg
  23. after a year of regularly checking every possible doner at my favorite junkyard, only to find all RXs pre-pilferred, it happened for me. when i turned that back wheel and saw it's mate turn in the same direction, there was this feeling.....sorta like when your fishing with a down rigger and you see your line release from the clip. you can hear your heartbeat for a moment.....then you scramble for your tools.,
