correct. there were no clusters like this in white, these were the early gen 2 gl cars 80 - mid 82 with the glass fuses. This would include all the cars that had cyclops.

interesting the 83-84 cars some of you guys have with the orange cluster in the first pic. I never knew this style existed. Here is the orange ones from 80 - mid 82 (?) that I was familiar with So when they went to the plastic fuse gen 2 wiring is when they made the new guage clusters, and aparently there were a few in orange made of those as well. I imagine that these were straight interchangeable with the white ones of the same later aera gen 2 cars. Again the pic of the later style - And i should note the jy said the car in this pic was an 82. I didn't look at manufacture date, but it did have plastic fuses.

yes that's the point, this is the later (82+) style gen 2 gl cluster, but it's orange. i had never seen that before. just wondering how long they used these, cause I'm geeky like that.

Yeah I had never seen before either, so I'm thinking this was maybe on a few cars soon after they changed to the new gauge clusters (I think that was mid 82). It is still at the jy in denver if anyone wants it (upull and pay 66th and broadway)

I have a fellow board member asking me about shipping an ea71 engine to him, we are both in the lower 48. Never having done this, what the best, easiest cheapest way? not terribly big, no intake on it, basically just the block and heads. Anyone done this?

I have a 80-81 or 82 gl (orange) gauge cluster in my car. I thought these very early gauge clusters were only in these first year gen 2 cars, gls and glf. I recently found this one in the junkyard in a car they listed was an 83. The gauge cluster is orange, but a different layout than the two that I have (one I know was from an 81, and the other I don't remember. Anyone know when they changed the layout, and how long did they use them in what cars?

Installed the door trim, I like it, the car is bright red with a ton of black trim, the navy interior was just wrong for it. I will proceed with this scheme.

Never heard of a GLF hatchback. Very cool!

As gen 3 subies go, I like it for it's uniqueness, but it doesn't really have any atributes of an old subaru that make them the cars that I like.

another thing that's kind of weird, color coat is also recomender for "painting" carpet. Sounds ridiculous, but I have not been able to get anyone to recomend a carpet dye, so I am going for it. the lower door panel carpet strip in the pic was done this way (it was a medium grey color to begin with). came out good. I figure I have a couple sets of carpet for my hatch, I can try it out. All of SEM products have tech sheets downloadable online that spells everything out for you.

they don't really come like that, if it's got a finish it's in the name of the color. I used "medium slate grey" and "satin black". I know there is a color coat gloss black, that's the only gloss I noticed. the medium slate grey I would say looks like a satin finish, but like I said, this doesn't even look like paint, it looks like colored plastic pieces when youare done. you can still see the krinkle texture in the plastic. the "primer" for the soft plastic is called "sand free" and it actually reacts with the vynil or rubber, whatever, and softens it- noticably. Then you paint and as the solvent primer dries, the color coat is pulled into the material. very cool.

just google "SEM color coat chart" and hit images, you will see images of their color charts, only as true as the posted pic and your monitor, so you would have to go to a store that carries product to check one out in person for an accurate look, but the online charts should give you an idea of what colors they have. About 50 colors in the color coat line! They also have bumper coating, etc.

I was referred to SEM products by no less than three people in the auto industry that I trust. http://www.semproducts.com/ This stuff is very cool. The pieces pictured look better in real life. I am doing a whole interior, from carpet to headliner. The grey i used for these pieces is medium slate grey, and is slightly lighter than the stock grey late gen 2 interiors, darker than the 80-81 grey. I recommend this stuff, I think it is awesome, I will follow up with durability if there are any issues. most of the pictured pieces started out navy, the steering wheel pad was dark brown. This stuff covers really well, a couple initial thin coats was adequate. Two different SEM primers were used, one for the soft pieces and a different one for the hard . The hard plastic pieces required a prep that is specifically for "problem plastic" such as poly propelene which is what these hard plastic pieces are. It really doesn't even look like paint at all. In fact SEM doesn't refer to this line (color coat) as paint, but a "flexible coating"

should add, I have no idea what starseal u-70 is. would seem to be a product of the past.

I have been told by multiple people that I trust that these gaskets are meant to be used with no sealant, glue, or goop of any kind. then you post this. So I check with a gen 2 Factory service manual. Why did I not do that before? dunno. It says to use starseal U-70 sealant, accompanied by this diagram for where you want it. I apologize for posting wrong info, and thanks for the coorection, I'll edit my prior post to remove wrong info. for the record, I did a gen 1 windsheild without sealant also based on the wrong info, It worked okay.
