  1. Since you mentioned coil over and also MikeW was asking me for a non fancy ones here's what I found. Monroe Sensa-Trac from Napa with a 1/2 shaft, gas charged coil over shock- full lenght is 26" entended, travel about 6-8" depending on location and angle you put it. I hope this help on your project this weekend. $52 a shock Led
  2. Hello Adam Nope, never get to see it since it was shipped to your place long time ago. I think the other guard similar to yours was in that red wagon owned by some dude who lives here in Ca. Looks good man, next time I make one will be 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 inch tubings. How's the Brat project of yours moving along? If you need any assistance just e-mail- del4130@hotmail.com Or you need any info about the rear trailing arms or suspension related questions let me know. You're ahead of me already, can't get started until I get my tubing bender this coming Dec. I've been looking around for a 4WD Coupe, I like 'em too. There's one in Las Vegas but it's not 4WD. Don't sell the one you have now, it's definitely a keeper. NICE! Del
  3. Hello Mike, Adam & veryone OK, let's seperate a group here there are lots of off-road activities to do. Crawling, hi speed uphill dune ride, mud, etc. I myself enjoy flat, curvy, woopsy, sandy, gravelly, off-road driving with an average of 40 MPH without breaking my rig. I know that there's a lot involve than just posting it here about the basic suspension and such. I like the Subaru suspension design because it's all independent just like the VW except the 4WD. The main thing to do is make it bulletproff and that's why I'm posting to give my ideas and share some of my experience. I've made 3x3 to 5x5 VW front and rear trailing arms to fellow VW Baja guys same as the SteelyDel guards I've made and still not RICH:boohoo: OK... The S-10 stub flange fits into the 930...........no big deal the rear suspension is out of the question. Sway-A-way makes there own in a 4130 metal and call it Microstub racers use them. The steering will come later, whoever comes up with some weird plans. Let's talk about this more later, I'm sure we can build one by just combining ideas. I have to go to sleep gotta get up at 5:mad: DEl PS: CV axles are no better than solid ones...just the ride comfort.
  4. I admire you guys' idea on making the Subaru off-road worthy just like or close to the Baja 1000 cars. On the 930 CVs- the front stub axles from a 4WD Chevy S-10 fits like a glove. It's up to you how to adapt it to your rig (I have some brainstorming of my own on other projects) The MCstrut is not suited for off-road (I mean like riding a dune-buggy) unless you drive 5MPH all the way:rolleyes: My thoughts for my Brat would be double A-arms in the front and leave the trailing arms in the rear. Of course they have to be longer and wider than stock to achieve the desired suspension travel. Leave an inch of clearance before it bottoms out and an inch on suspension rebound for the shock absorber's sake (bump stops & limiting straps would be nice). Drive axles can be made by Sway-A-way however you want it. Tire clearance can be done with fiberglass fenders someone here on the board can hook up with a glassman. I know it sounds expensive but it can be done, the thing is you don't have to do any R&D it's been proven and done. NOW the question is... when, how and who? I'll let you guys know when I start on mine. Laters (Adam's) DEL
  5. Hi Roo The trails are meant for the vehicles with long travel suspension I'm sure you know that. Easy on the gas, 4"-8" travel isn't enough depending on speed. I enjoyed off-roading the Anza-Borrego RV park in my 4WD HB few years back with some friends. Got tempted to run fast on the trail:brow:, (driving the SCORE way) behind is a huge dust cloud (cool to see) until I hit one big woopsy. 3-4 feet up the air and nose first going down (that's how we stopped). Bumps on the head, seatbelt burn on the necks, a friend in the back..a blackeye. We hit sand and fortunately the car was fine. You'll have fun there in Superstition don't forget to swing by Plaster City. Also try the night run or maybe wait until Halloween it's a BLAST there! Have you tried Parker AZ yet? Goodluck to you DEL
  6. Sorry to confuse you but I got the post from a buggy message board. I just thought someone might be interested. I live in California. Del
  7. FS: Milton, Florida: '84 Subaru GL with 1.8 liter engine Posted By: fullsailz <fullsailz@yahoo.com> Date: Thursday, 4 September 2003, at 6:34 a.m. I have an '84 Subaru GL that still runs but my son did some accidental customization of the driver's door which will no longer close. Everything works except the A/C on the car but I don't feel like fixing the door, (especially with 3 other vehicles). The engine has 128,000 miles and starts right up. If someone wants the engine for a rail or some other project I'm selling the whole thing for $200.00. It has a clear title. Password: Post Response | Return to Index | Read Prev Msg | Read Next Msg
  8. Try the 930 CV joints it's been applied to a lot of diifferent rigs with good results. Applying it to Subaru takes some time (machining maybe) and a good modification knowledge but it can be done. Last but not least, to the guys who went to Rubicon, RIGHT ON! Del
