  1. Agreed, clutch alignment tools suck its sooooo much easier with the pp loose. I really hate it when i'm working on a non subaru where you can't do that!
  2. Ah, no worries im looking for the blueish grey stuff.
  3. Yeah id be looking at a stuck wastegate for starters......does it run ok apart from no boost?
  4. I'm after the bit the radio sits in and the trim around the gear lever and handbrake.....not too worried about a few scratches etc....but what colour is it?
  5. Hey what colour/condition is the interior in? Like the center console etc mainly.....
  6. Code 11 and 12 are normal with the engine not running...... Doesn't bypass computer its needed to run the engine, just puts it in "test" mode... If you haven't already, try starting with the cts or vaf unplugged - the cts especially causes all sorts of problems when its bung.
  7. yeah winter but we dont usually get snow here at al- if we do its normally in spring!!
  8. Update, been a while but its finally "run in" after the prescribed 3200kms. Off the road again untill i get around to putting a new gearbox, axles and alternator in (which are waiting for me 400kms away) and till i get it a warrant.... Worst thing is that we've had an unseasonal dumping of snow here and i couldn't take it out!! Good news is it runs perfectly now that i added a big extra engine earth wire, and it soundly out performs a stock ea82t (can only attribute this to the very minor porting i have done along with obviously being effectively brand new, its otherwise running stock) - This was not judged by illegal street racing before anyone jumps down my throat!
  9. I reckon you've made the right choice, everyone has fast ej's whats the point in doing something that everyone else has? ea all the way
  10. yes, that hose has got to be the worst thing to get to on those engines.....
  11. Oh, i saw one of those for sale only a few months ago!! in chch!! A little blue one, went back to see how much he wanted but it was gone. I know where a yellow one parks during work hours, you should leave a note on the window!
  12. i live a bit closer, still quite a drive tho if it was something small (ie not a whole engine) i could probably get a friend to pick it up..... or you could talk to subGSR nicely, he lives even closer...
  13. I put a carb motor in my ea81t wagon for a while. I had the carb fuel pump sucking fuel through the FI pump, which was disconnected along with almost everything else. Apart from that, i just made a little wiring loom between the points and coil.....changed the exhaust...that was about it, couldn't be easier. No adverse effects from sucking fuel through the FI pump.
  14. Hmm, when i looked in to getting NA pistons for my turbo, it was around NZ$400 for the set (not including rings).
  15. For rings and bearings Repco is fine, talk nicely to them and they might give you a discount. I endeed up paying about $100 for chrome rings, about $100 for mains and $80 for big ends. Repco will do most gaskets, not all, but i'd just go with subaru for them as some (head gaskets and intake gaskets mainly) are much better than repco ones. I ended up making my own for the oil pump cos i was gonna have to wait 3 months for a new one to come from japan. Gaskets i did get from repco wern't much cheaper than subaru anyway.
  16. Would you not be better to use steel hardware anyway? How will you insulate SS hardware from the cast steel turbo housing etc? Easier to insulate a MS bolt from the SS header, just use insulating washer.
  17. Have you checked the brushes? They are most common thing to be wrong, very easy to replace. They cost around NZ$3.00.
  18. Haven't had much time to think bout this yet, but here it is: Charge warning lights have been very very faintly on in hte ea81t for quite some time - no probs, just ignore. Other day lights all of a sudden came on much more - not completely, but probably 3/4 of their max brightness. Alternator does charge somewhat - but only brings voltage to around 13V with reving the engine - about 12.5V at idle. Brushes are fine. Wiring and grounding are fine. Bad diode maybe?
  19. Ahh Ha! Some of you might remember the "Diesel subaru?" post from a while ago. After some looking around, i found that the engine code looked suspiciously "nissanish". I think you may have found the answer - the deisel leone is simply a re badged nissan whatever-it-is. It is probably just as subaru as the subaru vans are - as in subaru enough to be legally called one, but not much more than that.
  20. FYI, What they do have is a little pickup unit in the disty, and if you are getting a spark this isn't your problem, since this fires the coil as well as telling the ecu engine speed.
  21. The water is fed from the drain hole in the bottom of the 1-3 cylinder head. The rubber hose coming out of the turbo joins to a metal line at the back of the head - this line has a banjo fitting on the end which screws into the drain bung. Does that help?
  22. They'll insure me for my commodore (which my ex just wrote off!!! ) (90kW), but when i ask about insuring a "turbo!!!" subaru (probably about 80kW standard).....oh no.
  23. Ok, if you find the disty is hooked up properly etc, next thing i'd do is start unplugging things one by one - CTS, VAF, Idle/WOT switch, thats all i can think of at moment, but basically anything thats not needed for the car to run. Any of those things can cause the car not to start when bad, but it should start with tehm unplugged. Don't give up, it'll be worth it in the end!!
