  1. That would be sweet! Do it!
  2. Any manual 2wd car should be 5 speed. I have no experience with 2wd cars, but doing a similar swap in a 4wd car you need: Pedal box clutch cable flywheel transmission crossmember Crosmember/radius rod mounts center console Have i forgotten anything?
  3. OK, thanks. By the way, this is the pic i was talknig about.
  4. That does look much nicer..... What did you use to do that?
  5. has anyone got a good example of, or a picture of, an original intake pipe (the bit that has "subaru 4wd turbo" on it)? I am re-painting mine, and am about to do the lettering. I looked at a pic of a brochure, and it looks like the "subaru" lettering may be a different colour to the rest, or it may just be lighting. Anyone know?
  6. Your best bet would probably be to swap in a 5 speed manual.
  7. I've seen a few odd cars like that, like the 'Skiers Special' and the 'KZ' (New Zealand Americas cup team) version. Last one is obviously a dealer thing, since it is New Zealand specific.
  8. Sounds to me like an inner CV joint (ie the one closest to the transmission).
  9. Lift front wheels off the ground, and turn wheels lock to lock a number of times, while ensuring proper level in the reservoir. This should bleed out any air in the system.
  10. Only single intake port on the ea81t.
  11. There is also a tapped blind hole on the top of the block where the knock sensor goes on the turbo motor.
  12. The tops of some (SPFI and MPFI N/A) ea82 pistons are higher, thus raising the compression ratio.
  13. You probably mean 1600 pistons, not heads. You can also pistons from an ea82, the SPFI ones will give you a compression ratio of 9.5:1. You are limited in planing the heads by the intake manifold. Unless you somehow shorten it, or fabricate a new one, it wont fit after planing the heads much.
  14. THe fuel system will be under pressure - its not excessive, just be prepared for some to leak when you take the first hose off. That online scan of an fsm that was floating around has all the info for the removal and so on of the ea81t. You should be able to find it with a search.
  15. With that high a compresison ratio (12-12.5:1), you will have to use racing/aviation fuel or LPG.
  16. Only ea82 ones are like that, ea81t ones are the same.
  17. Forgot to mention, reground cam as well. Ill take some pics once i start putting it together. Its all stock, for now anyway. It should be plenty peppy enough for what i want. I'll prabably chuck a water/air IC on it at some stage and up the boost a bit, but nothing extreme.
  18. What sort of fuel economy are you getting with it? I am very keen for running on LPG myself, now that it is half the price of petrol here!
  19. The bit where the hose connects to the green top is off-white on these ones.
  20. I ordered some -0.25mm crankshaft bearings for the ea81t - thats what it had in it before, and the journals measured up within spec for the 0.25mm undersize. However, upon trying to sit them on the center jounal, i find that the new bearings are too wide (ie the thrust face does not fit in the crank). Are there various oversizes for the thrust face? Or have i just been given the wrong bearings?
  21. Finally, the block and heads are in at the engine shop, getting a hone, surface grind etc. Then i just have to wait for my "special" NZ$60 head nut socket to arrive from Japan! List of things been done: New Bearings New Chrome rings re faced valves/seats re face heads Un clogged turbo water supply (now that might help...) valve guides/seals freshly painted rocker covers and turbo to throttle body pipe (the most important bit) and a whole lot of other new bits and pieces. Unfortunatly, i havn't got the money for new N/A pistons or for any balancing. Should go well when its done though, it also has an almost brand new turbo on it (thanks to previous owner), hopefully its still ok after running with no coolant for a couple of months.
  22. exactly. If you cant move in 4wd, you have other problems.
  23. What does this smoke look like? (colour, thickness, smell)
  24. What colour are your plugs when you pull them out? They will be very black if its running rich.
  25. Makes no sense that you cant get power to the rear wheels, there is no center diff. Are you sure about not being able to drive in 4?
