  1. Check the timing with a timing light as said before, except on your engine the timing marks are on the front pulley.
  2. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=104
  3. I use loctite spline lock when installing the hub, this prevents anything like this happening. It does mean that you need to use a puller to get it off, but IMO thats no big deal. I strongly recomend using loctite if your hub splines look the slightest bit damaged. If there is any considerable slop in the splines, no matter how tight you torque the hub nut, they will wear very quickly.
  4. Friend of mine just bought a ej15 impreza, do they need premium gas?
  5. Hello, If i remember correctly, there is a section of rubber hose attached to the filler tube just before it enters the tank. I suspect thats probably the prob.
  6. Its in a 79 wagon, is it ok to do with the engine in the car or should i just take it out? Cheers.
  7. Your turbo is water cooled. One way to check for a blown HG is to start the car with the radiator cap off. If the head gasket is blown you will probably see the cooland start to froth or bubble. Could also be an intake manifold gasket.
  8. Could be bad oil pump. Change the oil and filter first, see if that makes a difference. Then i'd be mesuring the pressure with a mechinical gauge, in order to asess the state of the iol pump and bearings.
  9. From the look of the sketch of the tool in the fsm, it looks as though you'd need to remove more material than there is on a standard socket. Its only a sketch though, so it'd be worth looking in to. Oh yeah, a furnace would be nice...
  10. I take it then there is some relation to subgsr of Waikaia! A mate of mine may be selling his rx2 soon. I'll have a chat to him and get back to you.
  11. I would definitely check this - something causing the knock control unit to retard the timing will give exactly the symptoms you describe.
  12. Yeah, ditto. Never had any probs with the stock NGKs'. I would also recomend Canty engine specialists, good guys, although there really isn't any reason why you can't do most work on these engines yourself. Very easy once you get into it. Where in NZ are you from subarugsr?
  13. Is your timing set to 15 Deg BTDC? If its too far advanced your engine could start to knock when it warms up, causing the knock control unit to retard the timing.
  14. Have you replaced your inner cv joints? It sounds very much like an inner cv problem.
  15. Did the hub look corroded at all? Also, was the thread on the end of the stub axle stripped as well?
  16. eeewww.. I'm with WJM, keep it below the hood.
  17. While there is no "adjustment" provided, it can be adjusted. Its simply involves loosening the bolts where the two suspension arms meet, and pushing the assembly around with a bottle jack or the likes. I havn't done it, but an old guy i take mine to has been doing it for years, as he used to work on ea81 rally cars. He reckons its a prick to do.
  18. I have heard that modern turbocharged engines are designed in such a manner so as to let oil flow through the turbo by convection after the engine has been shut down. Is it true? Dunno, might be!
  19. LPGsuperchargedbrumby has supercharged an ea81.
  20. Problem is, you cant just go welding high alloy steel like that and not expect martensite (VERY brittle) to form, so you would need to do a post weld heat treatment. If you have access to a furnace though.... id buy one from you.
  21. Benefit: Back seat passengers don't hit their head on the roof so much.
