Do you know if the car will re start once it has shut off? Or do you have to wait a while?

Ok, i took the car for a drive with the green connectors connected. After 2 or 3 mins of driving, the ECS light came on. The o2 light flashed code 24 - WOT switch remains in on or off position (at least thats what i think it said, i was dirving at the time). by the time i pulled over to check again, the code had stopped flashing (no activity on o2 light) and the ECS light had started flashing slowly. It continued to flash like this for the remainder of the drive, and i was unable to get it to repeat the code to check it. I did check the WOT switch a while ago, and it worked, but it seemed to switch on at around half to two thirds throttle - is this normal? Any suggestions on what the flashing ECS light means?

If you run a hamilton jet in mud, without enough water, what do you think will happen to the water lubricated rubber bearing supporting the impellor? They cant run in mud for the same reason you can't start them out of the water - the rubber bearing will be gone in minutes. In saying that, an oil lubricated roller bearing will soon be available for the hamiltons.....Pretty specialised and rather expensive though. Its designed for rescue craft on oil rigs that have to be started once in a while to ensure they run when they are put in the water. I noticed that the prop on that boat is a rather odd shape. Am i correct in assuming that it is so shaped to stop it getting tangled?

posted some pics of the loose wires

I wouldn't worry too much about those connectors in the engine bay that go to nowhere, they will just be for some accesory you dont have, or they will be a connectoin point for a diagnostics rig. That is unless there are plugs nearby that they will plug into, in which case maybe you should plug them in. As for the others, i cant say ive even looked up there on any ea82s, so i have no idea. You might want to fix that stripped one though... At a guess, the first one looks like the test & read connectors for the ecu, if so the should be disconnected as they are. -
That would be great, cheers.

I have all these stickers on my 83 wagon that are written in japanese. Can anyone decipher them? Its mainly the fuse locations that im interested in, so if anyone has a pic of an english one that seem to match up to mine that would be good too. I have a fuse lid off an 84, and i thought it would be similar, but i just had a look and the fuse ratings and positions are all different. Cheers.

Another New Zealander? The brat engines have a different cam grind from the others, it is tuned for max torque at lower revs. I don't think putting a non brat one in will make too much difference. You could just get your one ground to what you want.

N/A distributor on a turbo

It may retard the timing, but it may not have any room to move that way, im not sure. -

Nah, you should have no advance during boost, the line going to the vacuum diaphragm will have boost pressure, so the advance unit wont move at all, unless you have a diaphragm off a turbo on it. -
I think very very tight may be overdoing it. You should be able to twist the longest length of belt 90 degrees when its tight enough.

Replace the windows with perspex ones.

If its an e81, you just have to carefully 'peel' it off, pulling out and upwards if i remember carefuly. You have to be careful not to kink it, or it wont go on again.

Pretty high revs when cold sounds worrying. Dunno what you mean by "pretty high", but you should be nice to your engine when its cold. The noise could be coming from your water pump or alternator, but could also be coming from a cam belt tensioner. If it doesn't usually make the sound when warm, it may be ok to leave it untill it does.

My new find.. EA81 dune/swamp buggy
Ross replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i think if you were running those tyres with low pressure, you could get a longer length of tyre on the ground than 2 inches. -
THe 14s do give you a few more tyre options. You can find much bigger tyres for them.

I think i have seen mags like those on a ea82 wagon...

I was having a look at the cable in mine before, and I think yours is shorter cos its a left drive, compared to my right hand drive. On the rhd the auto one is very slightly longer than the manual one.

Ths sway bar bracket & bushing wont make your car pull to the side (unless its holding your car on a big lean?). If anything, it will probably just make an annoying squeeking sound.

I thought it should be flickering on and off very fast? Mine turns on and off quite slowly, about the pace of the flashes the computer makes when it gives you a code, but still irregular. Does this indicate a problem?
