What makes you say it looks like a dealer option? Has flashers on the fender, i cant say ive seen one without them. I may just not have noticed.
-
Yeah, use the ea81t distributor. It has a different ignition module in it for the knock control system.
-
Heres the ea81 headlight washers:
-
If i was putting a D/R in, it would be going in with an ea81, not the ea71.
-
Ill get some pics tonight.

Its a single carb ea71 (1600). The 'bent' bit im worried about is how the frame rails are caved in at the bottom. They arn't supposed to be like that are they? I just cant imagine how it would have happened. Apart from that, most of the body is fairly straight, asides from a few minor dings. I just hope that the crap paint job (straight over the original red/orange one!) isn't hiding too much bog and so on. On another note, how do the 1600 single range 4wds go? I do have an ea81 and could get a 4 sp dr, but i assume there'd be lots of work making custom mounts for crossmembers, etc, yes?

Heres the pic of the bent subframe, along with some others. Comments?

With the 85-87 set up, it wont matter so much how the injectors are mounted (not so much as in the later ones, anyway). You will want to find some pics of where they are normally mounted, and mount them in a similar place. The angle is quite important. I think its about 20 degrees or so to the direction of flow, but again, have a look at how they are mounted on the real thing, and copy it.

Some ea81s also use the 9 inch - '83 onward i think. I agree that he must have got oil on the clutch, you'd have to try pretty hard to burn out a clutch in 500 miles if it were good.
-
mmm... not looking good, its got panels riveted under the floor at the rear , like its had some pretty major rust, the sub frame is bent in a rather odd manner (ill post some pics when my camera batteries are charged), blown head gasket, cracked dash, and the rest of the interior is in generally poor condition. I don't mind the rust so much, but the missing/broken trim and interior parts are a worry, as i may not be able to replace them. Plus with studying and so on i don't have that much time on my hands. Haven't made up my mind quite yet though.

Where does the cat go??

How's your water pump? The impellor could be badly erroded maybe?
-
ehhh.... i can get a pic this afternoon if you want, but its an ea81, and i suspect you want a pic of an ea82 one, right?

I just bought a '79 4wd wagon im thinking about restoring. It needs a few things replaced such as front seats, door lock, boot lock. Anyone know how hard it would be to make some stuff (mainly the seats) out of my '81 wagon fit this? Cheers.
-
Its a seperate switch. Also has a seperate tank, in the fender near the front.
-
I picked this wagon up yesturday, for NZ$250. Cost me an extra $150 to get it (it was 250 km away). Its a '79 4wd. Shes in pretty rough shape - The paint is wrecked, missing some parts (like drivers door lock, boot release button, trim from the bototm of the doors (looks like something should be there) and a few other minor things), has some rust in the floor. Other than that, the body is resonably straight, with little rust other than that in the floor, and some surface rust, and it even goes!. So, question is, do you think its worth restoring? It seems a shame to sell it off for parts.

Inside the left hand fender (yes inside!). You have to take the fender off to get to it. I think its the same on early ea82ts.
-
I can't remember who told me that, and i don't know how they would have known, but.....sounds feasable anyway. you should be able to run a much higher compresison ratio than the carb'd ones, since it'll have the knock control unit and so on. Sounds nice! I was thinking of putting N/A pistons in my ea81t to give it some extra oomphh, but well see!
-
The ea81t heads don't change the compression as far as i know. The difference is all in the pistons!

adjust rear strutts up one notch?
Ross replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
theyre not really struts, they are coil-over shocks. Not all had the adjustment i don't think, but the ones the did have a collar that the spring mounts on. It sits on pins, and can be rotated to sit in three different positions. Thats what i remember anyway, its been a while since ive looked at one. -
7.7:1 (pretty sure). Its just a VAF sensor on the ea81t, should work fine without the turbo. the computer wont even know its not there.
-
Did the same thing to my front strut. Landed on that wheel only! Strut will be bent as said before.

yep, move em up. Steering & so on should be all but unaffected. -
welding turbo and air intake on a carb?
Ross replied to blacklabel's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you have to either have the carb before the turbo or enclose the carb in a 'box' that is at boost pressure (for the reasons stated above). You can get special seal kits for some carbs for big chevys and so on, nut they are expensive and you wouldnt find one for a small carb like that.
