I have just replaced the vacuum advance diaphragm (it was stuffed), hoping it would stop this problem. It hasn't. The car will surge quite noticably when you are maintaining a constant speed, especially if im in a slightly too low gear (ie in 3rd at 60km/h). This goes away when more throttle is used, however at high revs (4500+) the surging returns, even at full throttle. It also feels as if it is lacking power at high revs. Seems to have plenty of power below 4000rpm. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have never had a prob with how mine handles on high speed gravel runs - they require a different driving style to the ea82s, but i don't feel they are any slower through the corners. (I'm comparing wagons here, i havent driven the 2 doors). -

I repalced the vacuum advance on the ea81t, and solved my jerking prob completely. You might want to check yours, if it has one. -

Air Filters - Independent tests
Ross replied to RedBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In my opinion, this test is only confirming what most of us could have worked out for ourselves. That is, that for less flow restriction, you are going to sacrifice some filtration performance. Just comes down to what you want - a paper filter will fiter out slightly more dirt, while a K&N will be less restrictive to flow. -

I reckon the hatch. If your going to go old, it should be as old as economically possible. A gen 1 would be nice, but probably too rare? They are here anyway. Anything ea81 style would be great! whatever, go ea81t - Bulletproof!! (well, almost...) -

no, not funny math, funny pricing! Over here in new zealand you can pay $100 for a K&N!!! Standard filters here cost around $5-$10. If i was into high horsepower, sure, i'd probably still get a k&n - even with the price. -

the k&n may be reusable, but it costs 10-20 times the amount of others, and you still have to buy k&n oil (preferably). -
RX jerks when driving at constant speed

My ea81t has the same symptoms, although i wouldn't call it violent. I have found the vacuum advance diaphragm is bad, and am replacing it either today or on monday......I'll post the results! -

This whole LPG thing is starting to sound very attractive (cheap, huge CR). Callum, where did you find all the gear? second hand or new? -
How about a pto winch? some serious dragging power!

Its roughly above the accelerator pedal on mine, i presume yours is the same. Take off the kick panel and its about 150-200 mm upwards. -
Wiring Up Intermittent Wippers
Ross replied to BobBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Odd. I would think that the wiring would all be there somewhere - i'd say it owuld have cost fuji far more to make different wiring looms than the wiring saved would justify. Plus the fact that my 81 gl had heaps of extra wiring that never did anything - i presume for air conditioning and the likes. -

Checking Vacuum advance diaphragm....
Ross replied to Ross's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is an e181t i'm talking about. Only late model ea82ts have crank angle sensors. The rest (all ea81s and ea82s up to 87ish) have vacuum advance/boost retard. -
Ok, so i know your supposed to use a vaccum pump of some kind but...i'm too cheap for that kind of thing. Anyway, I had the hose off the other day, tried sucking on it, and it seemed there was a hole or something. My question: Does this mean what i think it does (that its stuffed), or is there some difference between a advance diaphragm for a turbo and the na models? Cheers.
