We all know about the EA82 crackheads
angerthis replied to angerthis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thank you for your input it is muchly appreciated all you guys help me prove my point to the one I was arguing with over this stupid little crack we all know it's no problem to run it but try to get a stubborn old mechanic that knows nothing about Subarus to believe that -

the only reason why I'm asking is I traded a set of ea 82 single port heads for an 87 gl 3 door coupe with no engine in it. but it has a dual range 4 wheel drive transmission init. The person i did the trade with mechanic and i argued about it for like over an hour had no idea about the crack in the heads being so common that the heads that they had would have been okay 2 reuse. thankfully since I drove over 3 hours just one way to get to the car thay went ahead with the trade anyway so that is why I started this thread just so they could follow it and here everyone's comment so again thanks for all your input if anyone else has anything else to say please do so I'd appreciate it -

So I take it no one has ever developed a car that fluctuates a lot in engine temperature due to the crack between the valves -

Its been a topic discussed about a thousand times but I really can't seem to find anything on what happens mechanically to the engine when heads crack between the to valves will it cause the engine to overheat lose compression water in the oil oil in the water can anyone explain what actually happens -
Planning RX EJ swap, need ideas
angerthis replied to Arghetlam's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In my opinion the EJ22 was the best thing I have ever done to my 86 RX 4door sedan -
yeah I plan to repaint it at some point thinking about just keeping it the factory silver and the decals on the side of the door that says 4WD turbo RX I plan to change it to say 4WD EJ2.2 RX as for body mods probably nothing other than possibly a custom bumper that looks factory but will have a winch init

just replaced my ABS pump had a helluva time finding one that would actually interchange found out they made like three different ones but anyway the easiest way I found to bleed the system is to start with the back driver side brake caliper and start pushing all the fluid out from the rear caliper keep adding new fluid as you go so you don't suck it dry and once you finally start getting good clean brake fluid then bleed the passenger front caliper side and then go to the rear passenger brake caliper side and then bleed front drivers caliper side and then you bleed the ABS pump itself took about 20 minutes just to bleed the system have a friend help you makes your life a lot easier just do it the old fashion way someone pump the braks you bleed

I have a 1993 legacy wagon 5 speed 4 wheel drive ABS pump is leaking brake fluid and the pedal goes to the floor but the brakes still work i was just curious if anyone knew the different years The pump will interchange with and does it have to come out of nother 5speed car or will automatic car work? and also does wagon or sedan make a difference?

when I had all four tires off the ground support it on jack stands I would start the engine hold my foot on the brake put the car in first gear let off the brake and only one front tire will spin I can stop the tire from spinning by like sticking my foot on the tire it will stop spinning and the opposite side will spin that neither back tire will spin I also tried and driving up a steep grassy hill had a friend watch the back tires as I went up I would spin out and only one front tire spin and it would do this no matter what gear I'm in or if I was in manual mode or not note that this car is automatic 4 speed transmission

no regionally it was a Multi port fuel injected 1.8 liter 4WD turbo 5speed hi low lsd did not have to import it, it was originally purchased out of Yakima Washington I am the second owner of the car I purchased it from the original owner about a year and a half ago with a blown head gasket and a bad turbo put a new motor in it new turbo it was fun but not real fun so I decided to go with the EJ 2.2 liter best decision I've ever made

ok I just purchased a 93 Legacy Wagon automatic all wheel drive its got the option to put it in manual for the traction control. and today I just discovered that the 4 wheel drive is not working at all I dunno about the front wheel drive fuse and that is not in place I have the car up on jack stands I can start the car put it in drive let off the break and only one front tire will spin and yes the rear drive line is in place does anyone know of any solutions or easy way to check and see what's going on the power light on the dashboard does not come on when you start the engine other than that the car runs drives shifts perfectly the fluid level in the transmission is up to par both transmission fluid and gear oil is there a possibly somebody had taken out the transfer gears inside the transmission or something please help thank you for any response I can get

Well it turns out my good pump was no good I switched it out with my EA82 to pump Switched the Poliy and tank reservoir Now it seems to work just fine I am not sure why how or what I'm just going to take It for what it is it's fixed I'm happy I am loving my little rx with an ej22 in it The car is so dang fast its un believable I better be careful so i dont get my self in trouble if you know what I mean
-
Oh I realize it can hurt that's why I keep my hands well away from the steering wheel I think I'm going to custom mount my EA82 pump To fit my EJ engine And we'll see how it goes and I will update as I figure this out One other question Shortening the power steering lines to fit that won't cause any of this problem will it? Yes and as long as the lines are not mixed up
-
I now have no issue with blowing any lines They are all replace with new The only issue is that I am having as of right now is When I add dexron to my power steering pump and start the the car it does just fine until I go to turn the steering wheel the steering wheel takes off and turns by itself hard right And won't stop surging until I turn the car off
-
First off I don't know where you think I have an attitude I know there is something wrong that is why I'm here I know what I'm doing when it comes to working on a car I know the issue with my power steering has to be an easy fix I am just overlooking something easy but I know it's not something as easy as the lines being backwards I was just simply asking if anyone has had this problem doing an EJ swap in their car So I could get some different ideas on what to look for So again I apologize for you thinking I had an attitude i never intended for any of this so my bad
-
No the lines are not Swapped Why would you think my steering rack would be no good due to the fact it worked perfectly when I had my EA82 In the car? And I do know the pump was good because the pump was in my girlfriends car prior to me putting it in my car
-
Just finished my EJ swap in my 86 rx Has anyone had any problems with the factory EJ power steering pump working with the EJ power steering system? Right now I'm having issues with blowing lines change the lines to new high-pressure lines but my power steering takes over my steering wheel turns full right lock and Serge is my steering wheel left right left right super fast on its own Anyone have this problem? no this problem or can tell me how to fix this problem please let me know thanks
