  1. Hey everyone. I recently replaced my reverse light switch and while I have the transmission fluid out I thought I would check that my neutral switch is working. Is there an easy way to check if it is working? Does it matter if it isn't working? Or does it send inputs to the ECU in neutral?
  2. Hello everyone - I have just added a spoiler to my '91 Legacy and I now want to wire in the brake/stop light. Is there an existing (hidden) cable for this that I can plug directly into? If so where can I find it? Or will I have to splice into one of the regular brake lights?

  4. Thanks for the prompt responses everyone. You were on the money. The coolant pooled around the top (white part) of the spark plug and was shorting out. Problem fixed. Thanks again guys!
  5. Thanks guys. So you think it managed to pass the spark plug thread and into the cylinder? Do you think that seems unlikely given the spark plug was done up quite tight?
  6. Hey Everyone. Just did a coolant flush, new thermostat and radiator cap. With the coolant back under pressure my top radiator hose burst and coolant went everywhere. Didn't think much of it. Replaced the hose and no more leaks. But after this, the car developed a significant hesitation under load (accelerating at traffic lights). Pulled the plugs and one of the plugs was covered in coolant (where the radiator hose burst). I had resigned myself to thinking it was a blown head gasket, but I installed a new spark plug and the problem has gone away (for now). I have done a chemical test on the coolant for exhaust gases which was negative. Car is not overheating. No coolant in oil. Is there any way coolant could have got into that cylinder because of the leak from the burst hose or am I kidding myself and it's probably a head gasket? '91 Legacy EJ22 Cheers!
  7. Hi All. I have just been flushing the heater core in my EJ22 and I cannot remember which hose goes to which connection at the engine. There are two steel hoses coming out of the engine (a top one and a bottom one separated by about 2 inches) which one goes to the heater core and which one is the return? Cheers guys.
  8. Hi Everyone. I am replacing the ignition relay on my 91 Legacy (the brown six pin Jideco relay). I am pretty confident I have found where the relay is but I am having heaps of trouble getting it out to replace it. Does anyone have a step by step process to complete this task as I cannot seem to get enough access to the area or an understanding of how it is actually fixed up there. Thanks in advance. Ryan.

  10. Sorry, yes MMO through the crank case. Sea foam through the intake. You can also try some BG44K in the fuel system. Unfortunately with the high mileage it can be very hard to clear. I know this sounds silly but you can avoid the problem by just taking your time up the hill. Don't put it under so much load and just go slow. Everytime you do this to replicate the issue it has the potential to make the valves worse. As far as a valve job on my ej22 it means pulling the engine (it can be done in situ but for someone more skilled than me) I am not sure about the 96 but I imagine it will be the same.
  11. Seems to be a very common problem. I had the same problem with my 91 Legacy. From the studies and fault finding I did it is caused by carbon build up and sticky valves which cause a loss of compression under load. I would recommend using Marvel Mystery Oil. Put some sea foam through the intake. Short of doing a valve job you need to try to free the sticky valves and remove the carbon build up. The issue will only occur on a long hill under load. If you pull over it will shudder and shake on 3 cylinders and then it will clear itself. Some people have also had some luck replacing the ignition relay.

  13. G'Day Everyone. A while ago I was having some issues with my car losing power under load (up a hill) and have been unable to source the fault. I have seen some recommendations to replace a Brown 6 Pin Relay above the fuse box, part number 25232AA000. Has anyone had any luck replacing this relay and does anyone know what it does and how it could cause the problem if it was faulty? Cheers, Ryan.

  15. I have tried one where you add it immediately prior to an oil change and just let it idle for ten minutes but I would like to try one that you leave in permanently. What would you recommend for this? MMO? SeaFoam? Or any other suggestions that will help?
  16. Hi All. Just a quick update. SeaFoam added through the intake and through the fuel system. Still experiencing the same problems. No change. Anyone else got any ideas short of removing the head? Cheers.

One thing I have noticed is that the majority of the additives attempt to remove build ups from the intake valve but then get combusted in the chamber so they don't do much to the exhaust valve. Does anyone know how to gradually remove carbon build up from the exhaust valve without removing the head?
