  1. Thanks for feedback. The main thing I am concerned with is rust on cheaper models that have not been protected and sloppy welds. But I hear ya. Sometimes the no-name products are a better value. In my case, I have opp to buy used cheap in fine condition so I would be spending about the same as a cheaper new one anyway.
  2. Love your '84. LW looks great on it. Idk, mine isnt really much bigger. But I also have a large van with roof rack that the mega would work perfect on. So I may just get this so I have the extra space and can be used on both cars as needed. I already have the oem roof rack on my Loyale and so it should just attach to it no prob.
  3. Both here: http://www.yakima.com/shop/cargo/gear-baskets
  4. I need one for some trips this summer and was planning on a Yakima LoadWarrior. But someone nearby is selling a used MegaWarrior for cheap. Anyone use this bigger heavier one on a GLoyale? Would it be something worth keeping on full time or is it overkill? It's 35lbs and I think 47" wide.
  5. Man I wish I could forget about this dent ;-) I didnt do it, the guy I worked with on the lift did (with my permission). We just needed a hair more space so we used a crow bar and a shop cloth. He worked it too hard on passenger side and it just buckled on him. Oh well. But yeah we did both sides, hardly noticeable movement but it helped. My friend is a Dent Wizard guy so I might have him work it back into shape.
  6. A year ago I got slammed by a mid size pickup truck from behind while sitting in traffic (I have a 93 Loyale). Spilled hot coffee and a stiff neck was the worst that happen. Car was fine. The rear bumper rubber had minor indentation from impact in 2 spots but no dent of actual bumper. Insurance assesed damage at $1400, almost at totaled price point, just under I guess it was. So I made out on that one. Happy these cars are like tanks (at least from front and back I'm also debating on spare tire situation now that I took mine out from under hood since I run larger wheels/tires with 5x100 pattern now. Going to run without one for a while anyway but interesting discussion here!
  7. I have driven it about 100 miles and so far it's been a great ride. I had gotten used to my horrible old balding wapred tires to the point where my ride now feels like butter. Car handles close to what it was like before.. just a little more truck-like, obviously. Normal driving has a new car feel to it. It helps that all systems right now are running as pefect as can be for a 22 year old car. It's quieter now with these tires and with the exhaust and engine further away from the road, the subaru growl is more noticeable than before. So its a quieter ride with a slightly more pronounced subie sound (I wish my fans weren't as loud as they are however). The only rubbing is on rubber in wheel well when going in reverse on slopes. I think this may improve itself over time without me ripping or cutting anything off. I'll keep an eye on it... but nothing is risking damage to tires. It's too bad about my dent near front bumper. That was the only negative thing to come out of this so far. Axles are not complaining yet. I'll periodically update this thread with anything worth mentioning. I swapped in new chrome lugnuts but looking into getting quality black ones and maybe a lock kit. I attached a PDF of some compiled info that I hastily copied from the forums etc and some images of parts and results of my car. Had to reduce quality to attach but might be useful reference for some. SullsSubie2inchLiftProject.pdf
  8. Thanks! I am obviously not a purist with this car. Just having some fun. The other 4WD decal near gas cap was chosen by my kids and it hides a ding I cannot find the tailgate 4WD decal, mine is all faded. Why is that so difficult to find?
  9. I need lugnuts. Maybe red ones
  10. the centering is something of an issue i've seen on other lifted L series too. I can't say I know the exact reasoning for it but i'll look into it more now that I am in the game. Here is a closer look:
  11. I love me an extreme turning radius. Yes these cars are great at that. I'll try to regain it with some adjustment to lower body panel. Ever so slight rubbing. These are 17" rims so.....
  12. the front was a bit challenging and I had to crowbar the front a bit because it was barely rubbing on full turn. i'll tweak the front but its riding great otherwise.
  13. I struggled to convince mine that buying a 22 year old car was not crazy ;-) But so far, its been reliable and good gas mileage and of course it crushed this past NY winter. Her van has had several problems and not economical on gas (but it fits lifestyle). So we both have cars that work for us. Age, in this case, does not matter. My Loyale is my favorite car (i've had many). At one point, I sold my old Saturn beater and bought an 82 Jag XJ-S which she is still mad at me for doing (I dont blame her but it was fun for a while). Time without meaningful repair costs convinces ;-)
  14. So true, and why I have very little interest in most to all new cars that have no shape and look like inflated balloon cars. It's like symbolic of many things in life these days. A watered down world.
  15. wow, gorgeous! my father had this exact car at one point when I was a teen. would love one of these today! congrats on the successful import.
  16. So after many many reschedulings over several months, I am getting my subie lifted with the 2" BOSS next week. I'm having XV wheels mounted with 5x100 adaptors. And I really don't know if this will go smoothly but it's time to give it a try. I have read mixed opinions about the 2" lift and what should or need not be done to the car for optimum performance and less axle damage etc. But i'll give my car a chance to handle this mod without other complex changes first. If it's a mess, I will either revert or make further mods. I'll post an update in a week or two.
  17. took forever to attempt this, but on wednesday I am finally putting in the BOSS 2" lift, 5x100 adapters and XV crosstek wheels. Was hard to coordinate with mechanic willing to do it for me.

  18. Thanks for the tip. Yeah its one of those cotton based filters. Figured WTH, they didnt have cheaper filters that fit in stock so I just bought the "lifetime" performance one. Trying to keep thr subie happy. I actually can tell a difference with the air flow.
  19. Adaptors were made by a forum member about a year ago. Was a limited run. See here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/138796-4x140-to-5x100-bolt-pattern-adapters/
  20. Today I went to junk yard and grabbed the only MAF Sensor that they had. The reman'd one I bought shipped today so i'll have 2. But I already have a huge difference with the one I got today. I cleaned it, installed it and with a reset puter, test drive was very good. Then I went and bought a performance air filter for like $50 and I decided to do a seafoam spray. I got my subie back! ;-)
