Bump. Still for sale, needing to get rid of this and all the parts cause I'm getting married later this year and need to make room for the wifey. I'm asking $2500 but im open to offers and could go lower for someone on here as I know it would be going to a good home. Here's an updated link for Craigslist. https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/d/1980-subaru-brat-with-loads/6549532494.html Thanks for looking -
Posted this in the for sale section as well. Just contemplating letting my brat go since i dont have tome to work on it anymore. https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/d/1980-subaru-brat/6319647433.html Not looking to part anything out right now. It's either everything or nothing Just seeing what kind of offers are out there right now, ive probably got more tied up in this than ill ever get out of it.

air release hold? I ran it at idle on flat ground, took it for a test drive going both up and down hills and it overheated....
-
Im pretty sure its a solid shaft, dont see why you couldnt bend it, but maybe see if you can get another shifter from the junkyard and see how well it will bend?

Bought a new thermostat from subaru for my 84 bra, put it in and engine started over heating. Thought maybe it was water pump, so chsnged out water pump, flushed the system and still overheats. Pulled the thermostat and ran it without one, stays cool as a cucumber. I tested the thermostat in a pot of boiling water, and seems to open and close. Didnt open far, but im unfamiliar with how much they should open. Its a 88°c thermostat, is that too high of a temp for my engine? Is there something else im missing here?

Subaru Brat Speaker Help
d8usti5n replied to ajslacker's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Speaker wires should look different than other electrical wires, theyll be thinnr and should be two wires connected (but seperated through the wire insulation. I would check the back of the speacker and see if its hooked up. If it is, then your other ends back behind the radio, so youll have to pull it out to check -
I dont disagree that "ej" ing it is the way to go, i just see a lot of direct questions asked, with a response that side steps the original question, and then in a rude manner answers what thier own opinion is. I think some of the responses above, where people take the time to addres why its a bad idea, or where your going to run into issues is exactly what this forum needs more of.

I agree! The lack of support in these forums lateky is horrible. There was another thread with a guy wanting to push the limits of a ea81, and all the feedback was just ej it blah blah, your wasting your time pushing a ea81 blah blah blah.

The boot tore, all the ball bearings came out somewhere along the way, and the ball cage slip out onto the shaft. When i took it out the shaft and housing completely seperated. Ive never rebuilt an axel, would this be rebuildable with parts from the ea82 axle?
-
So I broke a rear cv axle on my brat over the weekend, Ive got two good rear cv axles from an ea82 wagon, theyre about half an inch longer than the cvs on my ea81 brat.... I know the immediate answer is no dont do it!, but wuth those axles just sitting there, it makes me curious if anyones ever stuck ea82 axles on a ea81?

Why Is the resale value so high?
d8usti5n replied to Alex_G360's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Some people think they have gold, they will be sitting on them a while more than likely. But it does come down to supply and demand, when theres not a ton of them on craigslist its easier to sell for more $$ -

clutch cable question on a dual range swap
d8usti5n replied to d8usti5n's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not sure i follow??? The 4 speed out of my brat had a different mounting bracket that holds the clutch cable before it connects to the forks than does the 5 speed i put in. Ive searched thoughout the forums, but coming up empty handed -
Swapped the 4 speed in my brat out for a 5 speed dual range. Still finishing things up, but i noticed that the clutch cable barely touches the forks. I tried swapping in the clutch cable bracket from the 4 speed, but that makes it too long with no room to adjust. Is this just a matter of throwing some all thread on to lengthen it, or am i missing something?
