100 Acre Wood Rally this weekend in MO. Who's going? Myselt and 84 Bruiser will be down there with either the 84 GL Wagon or the 92 Loyale Wagon.
-
whoa, don't give up yet. Do a search on youtube "Subaru clark county fair" look like they'd work fine, and if you're breaking gm, jeeps, etc, at the tough truck, why not break a subie?

Had 84 Bruiser stop by the house and move my loyale seats back about 1.5 inches. Its so much better now. I really like the mod he did to his seats on his 84, especially the rear lower seat removal. He just removed the 4 allens holding the lower seat to the hinged brackets. The brackets are still there to support the rear of seat when lowered. Looks like Subaru planned for the lower back seat to be removed so you could level out the rear cargo area and still use the back of the rear seat.

My New/Used 1992 Loyale
colemanapp replied to josiahm91's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my sloppy shifter was caused by 2 areas. The bushings closest to the transmission stub and the tensioner spring were both missing. All other bushings looked new. Replaced all bushings anyway and now I have one tight shifter, works great. -

CV Joints or Suspension? Weird Noise
colemanapp replied to epix's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so far on my loyale I've eliminated the rhythmic grinding in the front byproperly torqueing the axle nut. I also had some thumping, banging from the sway bar ends. I beefed that up by adding 4 washers to each end link to keep the sway bar end squared onto the bushing. The sway bar has a tendancy to want to squirt those bushings out and just ride on and bang against the metal mount. -
Building my own EA82 brat

I like the idea and look of that project. My only suggestion would be the room for the driver. When I'm in my wagon, pretty sure my head and part of shoulders is behind the pillar putting it close to being in the bed of the truck. Just a little more room there and your good. Looks really cool though. -
replaced left front axle, right lower balljoint, and new timing belt kit. Got towed for the first time in my ownership after that timing belt jumped due to seized pulley. Hated to see it hooked up to the tow truck. OH YEAH, retarded the timing from full advance and it runs much better with an increase in MPG.

Adjustable Struts Available BRAND NEW! SACHS

I bought a pair of the KYB adjustable shocks last spring off amazon and then got the 3 way adjustable perches from Subaru parts warehouse. I haven't installed them and have been using some new monroes. I've actually been thinking of selling the adjustable set and had them for sale here til I saw those front to complete the setup. I did notice the overall length of the adjustable shocks was close to an inch shorter than the Monroe OEM's and the originals that came off the car. -
I just swapped some 99 outback seats into my loyale. I wish I didn't get a set with height adjust. I had to cut all that out. Get some newer Subaru seats with 17" rail centers just like your GL and you might have to drill a couple holes and get some nuts, bolts and washers. It was real easy aside from the height adjust stuff. Use your old rails and just bolt the new seats onto them.

45. Took a heat gun to the bumpers to bring the black back. just a suggestion. Your ride looks great.
-
I can still adjust the seat forward and back as the rails are the stock ones in their original positions. WIth the auto retract seat belts, you really need to reuse the loyale rails/seat belts. I reused all the trim pieces (side plastic covers with adjustments) from the outback and didn't trim a thing. Looks like it was meant to fit.

Those seats are from a 99 SUS anniversary sedan. basically leather outback seats. The passenger seat was easy. Just used the Loyale rails bolted onto the bottom of the SUS seats. The driver side had the height adjustment so the majority of that stuff was sawzalled out of the new seat before being attached to the loyale rails. I don't thing the seat sits higher as much as the new seat has that much more padding to raise you up. Only wish I would have tried to take advantage of this to get some more leg room for the driver. Pretty sure I could just unbolt everything and move the mounting position back to achieve that.

Subaruist, The biggest problem with option #2 is the lack of availability of 13" tires in larger diameters. I think your search will end quick in that regard. Its easier to find the pugs and they're expensive cause they're worth it. I found 2 sets and I'm in the middle of US where there's few to be found. I took a 3 hour (1 way) and and 6 hour (1 way) trip to get the 2 sets. Cuz they're worth it. Your brat will thank you by providing an awesome ride on some 14" tires.

I happened to be flipping channels and was watching a new "reality show' on Discovery Channel called Edge of Alaska. Pretty long segment showing an 83-84 GL Wagon stuck on side of road. Premise was the guy was leaving town and had to catch a flight so he ended up riding a horse to get out of town. Left the GL on the side of the road. I guess it was SCRIPTED reality cuz we all know that GL didn't get stuck in the snow. anybody else catch that?

Loyale dwarfing the 84 GL. -
My loyale has been a great car. First thing I noticed was that these older cars are more concerned about whats in front of a drivier than whats behind. I just don't get the new trucks with their giant mirrors and huge pillars blocking front views. I also have a Nissan Titan truck with the tow mirrors. I've damn near run several over in the crosswalk when they behind those mirrors and that pillar. Rant off. Loyale ON.

I'd consider dropping that gas tank and giving it a good cleaning. If theres a screen in the bottom of the tank make sure its cleared or removed so you don't have blocked fuel flow. Cool project, good luck.
