1. Thanks for the quick replies and, Silas, that link is awesome for what I'm getting ready to do.
2. Hope this doesn't sound too stupid but I plan on adding 14"'s to my Loyale but only can find 4 wheels. Til I get the 5th, would 2 x 13's work as spares if I got a flat and changed both sides or do all tires front and back have to be same size? Its part time 4 wd.
3. Not sure but would a broken timing belt make a high pitch whirring sound cause the cranks not turning valves, thus the motors turning over quicker? Not that the oil level would have anything to do with that but...
4. I'm assuming when I loosened the driver side belt tensioner through the adjustment ports and it came completely off, the belt moved a couple teeth on the cam gear. That's why I'd rather leave the other side alone and just set up that one belt I screwed up. Thanks for all your responses, I think I got this covered now.
5. Now my question is assuming I can access the drivers side belt to get it positioned correctly, will I need to be adjusting the passenger side belt at all if its still in its original position on crank and cam?
6. thanks for the replies. Plastic covers are coming off for good and heading to a parts pile then I better address the leaky power steering pump cause that stuffs all over the front of the covers. So is it possible to leave the passenger side belt alone since it was set properly before and then just get the drivers side belt to the sweet spot after I loosen the tensioner? I've watched Miles' video and its great help. I'm trying to stall the whole timing belt kit replacement for now if its significantly easier just to adjust the drivers side. belts and tensioners did appear to be ok but its a new car to me with last documented timing belt being done 110,000 miles ago and in 1997. Rrgr, We spun all our stripped cover bolts out with air ratchet that didn't come willingly. Theres a fitting inside the plastic that's essentially 'stripped' in the plastic so the speed of the air ratchet kind of melts it out. Zip ties after that. d
7. Did a water pump over the weekend and ended up messing with the timing belt tensioner on drivers side and now its out of time, wont start. Can I set the timing belt correctly by removing the plastic covers or do I need to strip down front of motor to adjust the belt/timing? Any tips/tricks to getting this done? 92 Loyale EA82 SPFI motor
8. Crap its only been 2 weeks so might need more time to tell if they're any good. At least we threw some antiseize on those bolts. Several of them were nasty to get out. Wire wheeled the mating surfaces and used some sealer with the gaskets is all we did. I plan on retorquing the bolts this weekend. 2 dealers in my area had nothing in stock I needed and didn't really sound like they wanted to stock anything for a car that old. Found a nice little independent repair shop where they did some diagnostics and checked it over for free.
9. I just replaced mine on the loyale with some from autozone and they work fine, better than whatever blew out after 22 years. I'd order those.
10. Here's a video from a loyale we originally picked up for my son. Im just having to much fun to let him drive it. We just replaced intake gaskets and now it really runs good, no more coolant loss, white smoke or rough idle. I'll be checking in here for some mods as suspension is next. http://vimeo.com/88378969
11. Only saw the saab at night once and everyone near us swore it was a VW Bug. I could see that ole sloped back of the saab tho. I'm a big 2 stroke fan from dirt bikes too. We know the trail systems down there so usually take our plated dirt bikes to view but it was more fun in that wagon. I figured if it made the trip we threw at it, it'd be worth investing a little more into it. I can tell theres a leaking head gasket and the struts are shot. Other than that, it appears to have been driven in a straight lien down the highway by one person with the radio off most of the time. I'm sujre it thinks its stolen now. Only rode in one other Subaru before this and it was a brat in 1985. Went from Vail, CO to Lake Tahoe, then Yosemite and back to Vail, three of us with big old long ski's, plastic back seats with a camper top. New fan of the Subaru here.
12. bought a 92 Loyale with my son. After very little work (ok we welded the exhaust back together) it passed inspection and got some plates. This thing is a blast. src="//player.vimeo.com/video/87649803" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen>
100 acre woods rally excursion from colemanapp@gmail.com on Vimeo.
and thanks for all the information you've put together.
