Any of these have airbags?
TheWanderer replied to comatosellama's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Almost certain you won't find a DL/GL/Loyale with airbags. You would do better finding a mid 90s legacy or impreza if you need airbags. I ***think*** they started putting them in around the 94-95 model year as a standard option, but don't quote me on that. I know my 92 SVX had them (driver side at least), and my 97 Legacy Outback wagons had them (again, driver side only iirc). -
Old Subarus Wanted for TV Show!
TheWanderer replied to CarResto's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not in any of those states, but if you are looking to expand your search I'd gladly volunteer my car. She's begging for a restore, perfect candidate for it I think (low miles, relatively rust free, and doesn't need much to bring her back to her former glory) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/148857-fsft-88-dl-3-door-coupe-95xxx-miles-750-obo-kearney-ne/ -
Well, its gone. She sold it yesterday before I had the chance to get up there Which one of you mooks snatched it out from under me? All kidding aside, I'm sure the new owner will be happy

Horn turns off radio...
TheWanderer replied to Subarocket's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What he said In my car when I hit the wipers, the radio signal fades out (come to think of it, all my subaru's did this... ) -
A few rolls? In this case it'd probably be more like a dozen lol. It's pretty bad honestly, but not nearly as bad as it was. I took to just rubbing my feet across the carpet (like one would if they wanted to build up a static charge and zap someone) and was pulling pancake sized balls of hair up. With as much hair as was in the shop vac today, I'd swear this was a rolling dog house

Well, if all goes accordingly, I may be heading to pick this up this weekend. Meeting up tomorrow with a buyer for my 88 DL and once I get that sold I'll be on the road to grab this. Then its time to pack her to the gills and put Nebraska in my rear view
-
Hey guys, was out cleaning the DL today trying to get it ready for a new owner to take over. The original owner (and last owner as well) had dogs and the interior is full of hair. I shop vac'd probably 5 lbs of it out today but can't seem to get the rest up. I'm almost certain the interior would look excellent if I could just get that damn hair up lol. I don't have an upholstery brush attachment for the shop vac, so I'm limited by resources... Whats the best way you guys have found to get pet hair out of your interiors? I've never seen it this bad before (and thats after about an 85% improvement)...

Thats my plan Miles I come from PA originally, try finding one of these in this shape back there...dollars to donuts its not gonna happen, they all ended up in the scrap pile from rusting out before the drivetrain died...

Corner marker lens - $10 Front grill - $10 Thats pretty much how I see it. However I already have 3 new tires coming, can get a battery for cheaper than $65, and have a friend with a welder I can use to fix exhaust. Someone just needs to come buy my 88 DL first lol Only problem is we don't have many pick and pulls around this area, and none of the ones I've been to have these older sube's. Everything there is OBDII or very close to the switchover (with exception to the classic section full of 40's-60's domestics). So basically any parts I'd need would come from forum members
-
You suck That's the same one I'm looking at. In O-town right? >_< lol Did ya end up getting it? How bad is it if not? The lady told me 115k miles when I talked to her the other afternoon and that it ran and drove and would get me back to Kearney without any problems... I've been waiting for a buddy of mine in the area to get back to me, he was gonna go check it out for me. Are you looking for an older sube? I'm probably gonna end up selling my 88 DL 3 door if you are interested. I would rather have this wagon honestly and don't mind putting a bit of work into it. 95k original miles, Colorado car originally...Not pretty but runs great and has had a lot of stuff repaired that was neglected since I bought it. Shoot me a PM if interested, lets get together if you are close by and you can check it out. I'd also like to pick your brain on this car even more. I'm pretty much sold on buying it, I need a wagon like yesterday.

86 GL wagon questions
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Really only considering it because I want the wagon over my 3 door coupe. I have a queen sized bed and a recliner that I need to haul west with me when I leave, and the wagon would give me a much better chance at actually doing that. The fact that its a 5 sp d/r is a bonus since I've wanted one over this fwd DL since buying it, and can't justify putting the money out to do the swap. Its up in the air honestly. I'd hate to see my DL get parted out, especially with it only having 95k miles original on it. But I'd hate to leave it behind if I buy this wagon, knowing that I could use many of the parts in the future... -
86 GL wagon questions
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats pretty much how I was expecting to haul it if I get the wagon. When I drive 5 speed, I dont use my brakes anyhow, usually just downshift way in advance and coast to a stop (thats how I was taught, and every 5 speed I've had has only ever gone thru 1 set of brakes every 2-3 years, never blown a clutch). Its kinda up in the air at this point. If I can get it cheap enough I'm all over it. I talked to the lady tonight that has it, 115k miles on the car and it runs and drives. Going to call back tomorrow and see what the deal is, told her I'd be willing to come out next weekend and get it. Asking $650 but she doesn't seem to speak much english and doesn't know a lick about cars (hoping I can get it for around $300, and should be able to...) I've got a couple friends out in the area from another car group too, gonna see if one of them can run over and have a look see, check it out for me What should I expect to have to fix/replace/work on before taking it over the Rockies and the Cascades? -
86 GL wagon questions
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thats what I figured. I'd either have to granny drive the car and be extra careful, or I'd most likely end up burning the clutch out on the wagon if I pulled the DL behind it. The drive itself is gonna be 1500 miles roughly, and about 85% flat highway. Biggest thing that would scare me about puling another subie behind with the brakes is the up and down through the northern Rockies (more so the downhill part lol). I may end up just parting out the DL and keeping the stuff I need/want to haul in the wagon if I get it. Biggest thing is though, I want the wagon so I can haul my queen sized bed and a recliner, along with the rest of my stuff (clothes, etc) when I move. Plus it has the 5 sp d/r, which saves me having to dump the money into the DL to convert. -
Hey guys, I'm looking at purchasing an 86 GL 4wd wagon (5 sp d/r) and am a bit curious since I'm not familiar enough with the 4wd wagons. Overall the car in question that I'm looking at looks to be in pretty decent shape body wise. Couple of surface rust spots on the rear hatch, but no other rust that I can see (haven't gone to look it over in person though) It has the 2 headlight setup, which I rather prefer over my DL's 4 lamp setup, paint and glass look pretty good for age (no broken glass that I can see), and it looks to have gold wagon wheels (?) of unknown size (thinking 14" but not sure, kinda hoping for 13" though since I have an abundance of good tires). Has a hitch and receiver installed, along with a factory roof rack, which is a bonus (since I am planning to move to the PacNW in about 2 months,,,really the only reason I am looking at it honestly, I need a wagon). From what I gather lurking the forum here, 86 was a crossover year between the EA81/EA82, correct? Main reason I am asking is because I would like to be able to use my 88 DL as a parts car for this 86 if at all possible, so I'm wondering if it may be an EA82 wagon, and if it would be carb'd or SPFI...I'd rather not mess around with a carb'd vehicle but if it is I could always swap over my SPFI stuff from the 88, assuming its an EA82... Rear brakes on this, would they be disc or drum on the 4wd d/r wagon? What are the odds that it would have the LSD? How about towing with it? Essentially I'd either like to tow a small 5'x8' utility trailer with about 200 lbs loaded. Worse case scenario I'd like to flat tow my 88 DL fwd behind it loaded with a few small items. Would the latter be possible? What are some of the main issues I should look for on this wagon when i go check it out? Asking price is $650 obo, but honestly I have a number of about $350 in mind since there isn't much of a market here for them, and it needs a few things replaced (marker light, grill, etc)

My door tag says stock is 155/80-13 on my US spec 88 DL. Discount Tire Direct recommended running 175/65-13 instead due to availability (they only listed like 3 brands in 155, all cheap chinese brands with low mileage wear, and about a dozen manufacturers in 175/65-13 with an average 50k mile wear). If you look at the tire size calculator at miata.net you'll see its only a minor difference between the 2. When I bought my car, it had 175's on it so that's what I ended up going with. But 185's would honestly be the better choice if you want to keep your odometer and speedo reading as close to factory as possible (since it was originally calibrated for 155/80-13). Any WA members around Gig Harbor?
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
awesome Not sure where we'll end up. I'd love to have that cabin near clear lake but it may be too far north for me. The one in Winlock would be my first choice, looks like a converted barn and is cheap (given what I see elsewhere out there). Biggest thing for me is finding work immediately.... Whats the winter weather like out there? -

I'm running Falken Sincera SN-828 from Discount Tire Direct. Under $100 a pair shipped. So far about 3000 miles on them with what looks like zero wear, and the ride quality/noise is pretty good. -
Any WA members around Gig Harbor?
TheWanderer replied to TheWanderer's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
awesome So far the end destination is Renton or Winlock. Found a couple places to rent that aren't terribly expensive and are more rustic than I currently am in. The only other option on the table is a small cabin 5 min from Clear Lake, kinda centered between Sedro/Burlington/Mt. Vernon: http://skagit.craigslist.org/apa/4614928438.html The house in Winlock I'm looking at would be equally awesome, has some acreage and I could set up my own garden. I don't really want to be in a large city and would prefer being out in the mountains but could settle for suburbs if I had too (the house in Renton looks to be in the 'burbs) -

I honestly don't know much about WA other than the names of the larger cities. Really have no clue where Gig Harbor is either, all I know is google says its a 25 hour drive from me lol. I'm an east coaster (PA born and bred) stuck in the Midwest, and I miss my trees and mountains Honestly from what I can tell, most of this board is made up of Washingtonians, which in a sense is a good thing if I do move there (a lot more parts for these cars than there are in Nebraska I'd imagine). Main thing though I am wondering is how the job market is, cost of living/gas, etc around there (from a native's perspective). Oh, and the availability of a Subaru club to socialize with I have a buddy or 2 that live in Seattle area, and of course my gal in Gig Harbor, but short of that I don't know anyone out there... One more question I have is, whereabouts do they run the forest rally every year, and how far is it from GH? -

Torque Bind of a Different Kind
TheWanderer replied to crazyhorse001's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
find me a good used tranny for a 2003 Saturn Vue (preferably a 5 speed auto Aisin awd or a 5 speed manual) and I'd be willing to trade ya my 88 DL 3 door even up. Only kicker is you'd have to deliver/pick up here in Kearney NE, which is well over your 100 mi request. The body is pretty straight and rust free (one little spot in the bottom of the driver side storage bin in the trunk that can be patched with some sheet metal welded in, and a dent in the same quarter panel right in front of the tail light that could be popped out for the most part but will need ground and filled/painted if you choose). I've pretty much given up on doing much of anything with this Subaru...I find myself not being able to justify putting the money into it to do what I want with it, and would honestly like a wagon or something else that is already awd... She's only got 95xxx mi on her, and just had a timing belt changed about 400 miles ago (with new water pump, tensioners, etc). 2 new tires on the rear, could use 2 on the front but she runs excellent. Interior is pretty rough from a former owners dogs...but its all there. Also has XT power mirrors on the outside.
