  1. You'll have 2 leads to the starter, one straight from the battery, the other from the ignition switch. wiring is the same as the EA71. I've converted 2 Fuglies to EA81 now.
  2. New coolant hoses especially the little one between the block and manifold if they look good just take come new ones with you and some water.
  3. Yeah, you probably poped the retaining ring off. You'll have to take the boot off. in future that the roll pin out on the gearbox out put shaft to give you enough movement.
  4. You can fit and tighten up the inlet manifold before tightening cylinder heads to align the cylinder heads, but only if you don't have dwel pins to locate them.
  5. I have 2 a couple of Gen 1 Brumbies I want to convert 2 L series 5 speed, So this topic is of great interest to me too :-)
  6. Thats good to know, I've been finding it hard to get new pads. So far have only been able to get NOS asbestos pads and they really make a mess on my front wheels.
  7. Hety Astro, I'm 187cm so I'm in the same boat. I've seen the one on ebay but I could get 3 delivered from Japan at that price, I made an offer but he didn't accept it. I'm located in the Blue mountains.
  8. I freeze the bearings before they go in the housing, you can also at heat the housing for more clearance. Once the bearings are in you heat them up with an electric heat gun (not a flame) be careful not to burn the seals or greese. bearing will expand and the shaft will slide in by hand. This is how I build many components on large marine diesel engines e.g. small end bushes into conrods etc. etc.
  9. I heat the bearings up with an electric heat gun to 120°Celsius (248° Fahrenheit) & the shaft slides in by hand :-) Also before I do that, after greesing the new bearings, I put them in the freezer overnight so the slip in the housing by hand.
  10. Hey mate, I'd be keen to check out your FJ1600, I'm looking at importing one but, I'm worried that I wont fit in it as it's probably made for shorter people, would be good if I could see if I fit in yours before shipping one over :-)
  11. Yep, I am the owner of the world's best sounding EA81. Well I think so :-p Watch "Unequal length headers Subaru EA81" on YouTube Seems to go OK as well. Now goes a bit better now as this was a single Hitachi, now has twins :-) Watch "Subaru EA81 100kmh in 2nd gear." on YouTube
  12. Could you please enlighten me a bit more about the "angled strut toppers"? Perhaps there is a good thread on this? I lowered my Gen-1 two door sedan but it sat on the strut bump stop rubber, I cut the bump stop down but its no good as it bangs hard on potholes :-(
  13. Sorry been busy sorting out twin carb EA81, checked engine on my 1979 wagon and dimemesions are the same, only thing is that thermostat is in the middle not the centre, will just need the longer hose that I will supply with manifold and carburetor.
  14. Very true, was busy playing with the 77 two door and taking delivery of my 1979 4WD wagon http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?p=232681&posted=1#post232681 I'll do it this weekend honest, just after I fit the twin carbs to the EA81
  15. This won't work on EA61 or EA63 as the inlet and exhaut valves are around the other way.
