  1. the tranny mount is probably shot if you say the shifter jumps up and down. you say you have a new cluth but it chatters? did the flywheel get resurfaced at the same time as the clutch replacement? if not that could be the cause. calebz got the info on bypass vs blow off correct for you. see I got you back calebz;)
  2. ok water injection may be cool in some situations. but I must point out that you must be aware that your sprayer system can clog, or run out of water. this may be a problem if you have a motor tuned to run extra advance or boost that relys on the sprayer to compensate. I think investment in an intercooler sprayer would be more benefical to us turbo guys. ok I just wanted to point out WHY its considered a "band aid". so as long as you know go ahead have fun. hey it will steam clean the carbon off you pistons. thats a good thing. oh and like skip said if it leaks it may hydalock a motor whan mounted above the intake.
  3. my new intercooler will be mounted to the spare tire area as well. I devised a method to keep the motor in one place with out much movement. the last time it was out I saw that the right side mount was torn. I drilled a hole for two 3/8 bolts to drop thru. I then cut the heads off and welded the remaining bolt sections on both ends to the mount on both sides. It has worked rather well. the only time you notice that its different is with the A/C on at idle. it was supposed to be a temp fix untill I got a new mount but I really like it now.
  4. ok so I finaly broke down and looked at the header thread. I was resisting really hard for a long time. I got the details down now. thats a really good deal on a cool product. I am interested but I cant right now. I first need to complete my biodiesel turbo benz. and pay for a trip trip overseas next month. but after that any thing could happen:brow: I was going to just weld an adaptor to my stock up pipe but that seems so ghetto after seeing whats available.
  5. I think its all in your head. but dont worry I feel the same way some times.
  6. something you may want to consider is if you want it mounted to the motor or to the body. If you attach it to the motor you can keep the hoses real short and simple but you may have some trouble hitting the hood or scoop that you use. if you attach to the body then you will need to consider the flexible sections of hose a little more carfully but alignment with the scoop will be easy. or there is always the front mount option.
  7. oh yes verry true. that would be a posibility too.
  8. dam that looks sweet. I knew I should not have looked. ok I am sure you have already answered this but I have been tring to avoid the temptation of getting one done and havent looked at that thread. first can it be installed in the car like a stock one can? second can the put a TD04 flange on it? and I am soooo mad at you for making me look;)
  9. 200DEG temp drop!! dam. thats rather good. pressure drop is reasonable I assume? yeah I am going to get a big ol tat that says noboby listens to Russ:lol: ok no Im not.
  10. cougars are smart kritters. thats a verry logical assesment. I will have to second it. makes sense. chase the ignition problem first.
  11. if you are concerned about air flow you may want to make up some flexible ducting to help seal between you scoop and the hood. my current IC sits right at he hood opening level with some rubberpieces to seal it while the hood is closed. this will all change by next week when my new IC gets here:brow: . as for wich one to use? practicaly speaking the air to air IC is going to fit and be a rather straight forward install once you get it plumed properly. but that would be really cool to see a air to water intercooler instalation done right. that thing would have great off the line performance. as for the tank question. It would look really nice if you could find a nice tig welded aluminum or stainless one. and while I am spending you money. how about running the cooling lines to the front of the car and thru a heatercore mounted in front of the radiator? I just changed one on a Taurus the other day and was tring to think of other uses for it. but I guess thats would be the job of the "radiator thingy" as you say. ok I guess Im not much help so I will stop now.
  12. I did a lot of searching to try and find forged EA82T pistions and nobody had any thing not evin cast. so your best bet probably is the ea81 pistons but I have not explored the details my self as to the swapability.
  13. thats true I rember that. its ok I am used to being ignored. sometimes its better that way.
  14. I would need to check a diagram but on my old 85 GL the fuel pump was powered by the ecm with no realy. probably one of the dumbest things I have seen subaru do. Its ghetto but I wired it to coil positive. it sounds as though you must have some kind of blown fuse, fuse link, connection? as usual check all powers and grounds. I will try to look at a diagram for you later.
  15. I have used traps with out much sucess. I also have parked the car in the garage with the cats. that used to work but they are getting lazy being spoiled house cats. hmm not shure whats worse having a rodent in the car or human pissil.
  16. like adam said it grounds and releases the neg side of the coil to make spark happen. the distributor is responsible for this. I am not shure about yours but mine has a transistor on the coil bracket to actually drive the coil. that should be checked as well if you have one.
  17. I beleve you are correct about the cats. I know here that they do test for NOX when they do the simulated diving mode tests. thats what I am going off of. Im not too familiar with the testing procedures elsewhere.
  18. I just cant help my self. for all you naysayers I have two words for you........ come on! told you they were junk. nobody listens to Russ:rolleyes:
  19. :-\ ok this is only ever so slightly true. 02s do NOT read temp. they read 02 thus the name 02 sensor. they do require heat to operate. they will work just fine with out the cat. the primary 02 is before the cat anyway so it does not see the heat from the cat. if this is the case it will most likely fail with only one of the 2 factory cats installed. the first is an oxidzing cat and the second is a reducing cat not a resinator cat. I would suggest installing a good 3 way cat that will replace both of the older seperate cats. I dont know how it works up there but here its always the sellers responsibility to somg a car before sale.
  20. I too vote for an oil pump reseal. it worked for me in the past. wheres the pics of this beast? mabey I mised em but toy axles under an xt6 sound like some seriously cool fab work. and yes there are cheaper oil pump avl.
  21. well it may be a gl10. many were. but some are MPFI. most will say turbo on the sides. they will be in the 85 to 89? years most likely. It sems to me that 87 had a lot of turbos produced. I would be leary of buying a car from some one who does not know whats under the hood. they probably never check the oil either.
  22. Dam yo thats some shisnitle! the FMIC is just ... well ... out there. I cant wait for my new intercooler to show up. he he.
  23. the gutted cat will most definately be a problem with passing emissions. I am not too familiar with the ea81T but I know the ea82T has both electric and clutch fans. they should also have a fan at the smog check place to help with this here in CA its required to help simulate road conditions. check the radiator for the fin condition. lots of times they rot away and dont cool well. do NOT put a colder range T stat in before testing. you are shooting yourself in the foot by doing that. it will make the car run richer than normal and possibly cause you to fail again. I would suggest checking the 02 function before retesting it as well. I and others have posted some good info recently on 02s. might be worth looking at. good luck with the testing.
  24. I think they would look good with some nice fatty tires on it to fill the area where they stick out. yeah if you add matching tires I say they will look sweet.
  25. thats a bit of a tricky subject. I agree that mabey replacing two at the same time is good. if the remaining two have a good amount of tread left on them then you should be fine. if they are almost shot, chang em out at the same time. or a little ghetto trick. run the new tires at a slightly lower pressure than normal while running the older tires at max pressure for the tire(printed on the tire) this will evin out the height some what. oh you may want to try the new generation area of the site. most older subes can be run in 2wd so its not an issue for them.
