I would trade you 2 spfi loyals for your impreza(if I had two). You dont want that relyable old thing anyway. I like my older wagon but If I already had your car I would just hold on tight to it. In my opinion you already have one of the simplest most relyable cars in the (older) subaru line up. OBD2 diagnostics are much more acurate than the old subaru check engine led blinkers.

water injection system
rallyruss replied to okanagansubman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
this is true. It can cause more problems than its worth if things go wrong. I would not use it on my daily driver. I might use it on a car I was going to intentionaly beat up though. just like NOS. what about an intercooler sprayer? Thats sounds like a better option to me. -
So close I can taste it!

junkie you are using silicone hose to the turbo right? standard rubber line will not hold up to he heat. trust me on that one. -
Cant get engine mounts to line up! (EA82T)

hey come on. we all have had that DOH! moment before. Junkie was just kind enough to share it with us all:drunk: -
Just bought EA-82 - some questions about...
rallyruss replied to DL92SW's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
good pics. well I have to say people are going to recomend using the search function first. lift yes you can. many ways to do it. EA82 and EA82T yes there are some changes. what area of the car are you concerned about? -
terminals are outside the tank. but the problem will most likely be the unit in the tank. Its really easy to change. ther is an acess port in the rear under the carpet. you can get to it from there. I just recently changed mine fixed my crappy readings. I think my dealer parts guy said I got one of the last ones in the system. with my hook up price it was around 80$. you can go by miles if you want. your tank should hold almost 14 gallons if i am not mistaken.

Holms that is Awesome! that is exactly what we needed. That is a decent price too. the bearing recieves little to no oil from the engine. only the lower bushing does. a decent 6200 sealed bearing shold run you about 5 to 8 bucks. get the ones with nitrill seals if you can. dont waste you time on the 2.99 cheapies. as a side note I saw the lower bushing on sale from the NAPA web site. both my bushings were in excelect condition so I reused them. well my offer stands. I will rebuild a doner EA82 EFI distributor for somone for the cost of parts and shipping so I can do a write up with pics for our site here. I already have a good spare here so I dont need any more myself.

AC is out, running 1 belt. is this ok?
rallyruss replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
mmm.... no the minimal drag it would have had would really not be noticeable in my opinion. that is of course when the A/C was inop and not used. it was really more about ease of acess. removing it is a pain in the rear. if it off already then no wories next time you need to get to that stupid little hose or remove the intake. thats all. -

it did not work and was in the way. might as well lighten it up a bit and make acess to other components simpler. -

I have run with one belt just fine and I have installed a shorter belt after a/c removal. a carquest 7340 worked just fine for me on the 87 RX -
subaru road trip pix (beware)
rallyruss replied to rallyruss's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks all for the kind words about my little wagon. Its a pain in the rear but has been really good to me overall. its up to 243,xxx miles now. think it might just make a few more. just about everything has been rebuilt or will be soon. I was considering moving up to an impreza outback sport or a forester but I think I might be better of sticking with what I have. Junkie- abut the road trip up north. I have not decided yet. It really depends on the two W's (work and wife). It would be fun. -
this is so true. Is it not hiding behind the head gasket? I had this happen to me one time too.

we didnt intend on going up as far as Utah actually. That was just to chase some fresh powder. I did stop to visit one subaru guy but thats because I am buying a car from him and sme spare parts. Soon I will be on a mission to new mexico and back to pick it up. That trip will be strictly bussiness. It looks like we will be running with a borrowed F350 with a trailer as my toyota turbo diesel project is going slower than expected. yeah wife says we dont spend enough quality time together.:-\ -
a "tune up" is a far simpler job than Tbelt replacement in my opinion. not that Tbelts are that hadr to do. are you shure its the timing belts "singing" and not the drive belts? just a warning. 13 years ago I started taking auto classes because I wanted to learn how to fix my own cars better. Now I am a journeyman mechanic. I just wanted a hobby not a life long job.(mechanics never leave work) oh yeah changing c/v boots sucks. Its a messy job to say the least. Thats why many of us just swap out axles.

updated headlights for EAxx cars?
rallyruss replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8871&size=big&cat=&ppuser=632 my rallyX RX lights. came that way when I bought the car. now I just need some decent 8" rally lights to fill the cut outs in the bumper. I rember a long while back. a fellow from overseas was selling a set of subaru EA82 housings that used H4s and had better reflectors/glass. I really wish I had some money at that time. -
how many of you actually race?

Got new radiator, water pump leaks...
rallyruss replied to alkalineJUSTYtrio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ah wait. its a justy? I assumed it was an EA motor.:-\ just replace the water pump.the dont cost that much. a compression test would be a good thing to do if you are not sure of the motors internal condition in addition to pressure testing the cooling system. -

rallyruss replied to alkalineJUSTYtrio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
run without coolant is always bad. there is an oring seal at the water pump and a small hose attaced to the block that may be the suspects as well. -
the fuel lines run along the inside of the body and them go thru the grommit to the fuel pump. correct repair would be a pain in the rear. you may be able to get by temporarily with wraping a section of split hose over the hole and applying a clamp otherwise you really need to replace the whole metal line assy.

Justy as a rally platform??
rallyruss replied to Jack in Norfolk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well I have seen it before in rally X. the guy entered the thing in open class 4wd if I rember correctly. He talked so much smack about how he was going to clean up on the track. well the rest of us were just out to have fun and found him rather amusing. At the end of the day I (and quite a few others) beat the little guy by a decent margin. He just split, never to be seen again. yes I am sure you could build up a justy to handle some rally action and do well. they shows up here from time to time. but dont expect to have a first place machine just because its small and light.
