  1. Yep all the 1.8 l turbo vws and audis used a side mount intercooler. The tt 225 had 2 of them one in each fenderwell connected by a crossover pipe its easy to get duct work to push air thru them and they are small enough to fit easily.
  2. I would try addi g a bit of Freon to it get the pressure up another 50psi. I had a mazda running the same pressures the other day and cycling constantly zo I bumped up the charge a bit and it ran great and got nice and cool
  3. If world pac is their main distributor I can get them thru work. We use oem subaru on customers cars, but I am about to lift my obw and it would nice to have axles that can handle the lift.
  4. If you drive thru huge puddles or live in a really wet area I have seen water seep past the seal at the top of the plug wire and get trapped in the plug tubes. Also if you ever pressure wash your engine bay this can happen. My first thought was oil in the plug tubes but I have seen water in them too. Not a big deal just blow it out with compressed air if its water. If its oil I pull plugs and give it shot of brake clean and install new plug tube seals and v/cs.
  5. Considering its a northern car I would be more inclined to look for a used knuckle and links. Even down here where cars are relatively rust free I still have had better luck replacking rear knuckles than pressing bearings in and out. That long bolts always freezes in the bushing. I usually just cut the bolt out and replace links or just get a whole knuckle and l just nks togehter and swap it in. Fronts are a breeze but as you can see my luck with rear bearings hasnt been great.
  6. I usually get them out of the assorted kits I have left overs of in my tool box. Anything from honda to che vy kits they seem to be pretty common sizes so I would say you will probably be fine. I just dig out what ever matches the best and err to the bigger side.
  7. Sounds like tires are causing the steeri g issues not the rack. Rotate them back and see how it drives. I have replaced a few racks but usually do it for leaks not steering issues. Did they say why it needs a rack? For leaks or to fix the steering issues? Tires make all the difference on awd or fwd cars. Thats why I hate rotation. Always worried after I rotate the tires on a car at work that there will be a pull or a vibration and then I have to do the same job twice for free. Get two similar tread depth tires on the front and see how the steering feels after you do that.
  8. Can you put the outback springs on forester struts? I have spacers for my outback but want to do forester struts before I install spacers .dont really want to install used struts , so if mynsprings will work I will just buy new foz struts and swap my stuff over . Just want the most lift possible.
  9. Please dont release refrigerant into the atmosphere by blowing it out. I know most of the people here like t do their own fixes and these two mentioned are definitely the most common leaks on these cars but at least let someone with the proper equipment evacuate the system for you. Other than that go for it and measure your temp at the vent. 40 below ambient temp is another good rule of thumb but gages will tell the real tale.
  10. As a professional mechanic who works on 2-6 subarus a week plus my own car I have yet to have an auto trans fail on me I have a couple of customers cars with torque bind issues but if they dont complain I dont push it on them. Mine has 175k on it and its doi g great. Still wish it was a manual, but it will do for now.
  11. As a former dealer tech (Audi and vw) I got my start in an independent honda acura shop. I showed the head tech my rear disc conversion I had just finished and it impresed him enough to tell the owner I was worgh talking to . Always go in and talk of o people face to face. Calling is weak and people can put a name with the face when they meet you. I worked in the dealer for 5 years and left to start my own company. I found out I dont like running a business and came back to auto but in an independent shop. It was rough and working for a dishonest owner was horrible. The shop I have been at for the last 2.5 years is amazing and I get to do all the subarus too! Pawn. Shops can be your friend tools can b had cheap and not just junk stuff tons of snap on and matco tools there. Remember that cash talks on tools and stay away from tools truck financing.
  12. Cool will have to try manually shifting it. Ireally am not used to auto trans at all. It doesnt seem toike to downshift if it doesnt have to.
  13. I just did this swap in my 96 outback. I never drove the car before , bought it and motor blew up on way home. I used dual port 2.2 heads and ej25d block. Seems to run ok this is only my second day driving it. I was hoping for a lot more but I guess we will see. I dont get squealing tires, but it seems to be a little stronger than a standard na ej . I want to open up the intake and exhaust and see what that does for it. Delta cams arent ruled out either but had to get it goin as fuel for my wrangler was killing me. I guess I should say hi since this is my first post too. So hi.
