re: "Just a grease at the nipples has revived a noisy uni joint several times in the past " riiight... but how do you get at it? I'm hearing metallic clicking , sometimes clunking, coming from rear of 82 Leone. Its either a CV, or the rear U Joint... I can't find any grease nipples anywhere back there. (rear CV boots are fine by the way). There might be one on the U joint, but its way too tight to even get a finger in there to check? how would you go about greasing rear CV and Uni Joint?

Intermittent clunking sound from rear
subi82 replied to Tom63050's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey! I'm having an intermittent clunking in the rear of the 1982 Leone as well! in 2007 post above Nipper asks, "If you lightly apply the parking brake, does the noise go away?" OP answered no, but my answer is yes - when i apply the brake, the clunk subsides, but starts back up again when brake pedal released. I originally thought wheel bearing, but problem is too irregular... was bad yesterday morning, but only a slight clunk on the way home, then none at all when i tested it after work. brakes? a CV somewhere? cone washer?? -
1982 Leone front parking brake

re: turbosubarubrat... yeah, i was able to compress the left side (was really tough!) but broke the c clamp trying the right side! i think the side i forced is still working, which is why i have hope that i simply didn't adjust the parking brake lever properly on right side re-install; the guy who showed me how to turn the cylinder in cranked the lever all the way over, and i don't think i cranked it back enough. will find out more on saturday ; ) whats up with the lever... should it be all the way forward, or all the way back, on re-install? -

hah, thanks guys. I'm going to take it apart this weekend when i have some time... flip that lever around (i'm pretty sure i had it in the wrong position when i re-installed) and if it still wont work, will have to look into replacement caliper. I still don't quite get how exactly how this spindle would get damaged... maybe a thread got mashed when i tried to compress the cylinder? anyway i'll take a look -

just reading through the manual i turned up... " do not push the piston into the caliper bore without rotating it or damage to the handbrake spindle may occur" OK wish I had seen that before. But i've still got hope that its just an adjustment thing... still hoping for any advice on correct adjustment of the crazy front parking brake system -

i broke a c clamp, but not the caliper... brakes work fine, i'm just wondering how to re-set the parking brake lever that sits on the caliper -
Hi and good morning! Recently did my front brake pads on 1982 Leone. I managed to find a guy who knew to turn the pistons, rather than compressing them (I broke a c clamp trying that). all good with the main brakes now... however: The parking brake lever located on the caliper was shifted all the way to the front when I re-installed it (strange setup, by the way). I have almost no pressure on the hand lever now... it kind of goes halfway at low tension, clicks, and loses all tension. (though it does hold a bit - i think one side is working while the other is not.) my question - does anyone here know what the trick is to these strange parking brakes? how do i get it working properly again!! thanks,

solved... the morning / evening thing was a bit of red herring (i.e. something that seemed significant, that was really not). Still wondering why that would occur. anyways, I filed down the points, and re-set the gap, and this fixed all of the stuttering, backfiring, fuel smell, low power etc. The thing runs great now, even better than when I bought it 2 years ago. love that ea81 engine!

yeah, its sort of in half sun/ full sun all day long. certainly its a bit warmer after 8 hours in the sun (@5pm) than it would be after 15 hours in the shade/dark (@8am). Same thing again after work ysday, barely made it home. And fine again in the morning! (well not golden - but fine) my feeling is simlar to post above - some gunk or something in the lines or carbie. hoping to use the time difference mystery to help diagnose. plugs and wires both good quality I think. (paid a bit more). considered new coil, but if it runs fine sometimes, can't very well be the coil as I understand anyway. or the points. the 'spitting' fuel vapor out the carb when cold tells me perhaps carbie is getting old & gummed up. btw this doesn't happen at 5pm - rather it just never even fires the missing cylinder(s) until i rev it right up and run it out. and oh those backfires , !

Hi Folks, I love my 1982 L series, Aussie drive, Got it 2 years ago and almost no problems. It started bogging down, missing, so i replaced plugs, wires, ran some seafoam, and that fixed it, however, things have taken a mysterious turn. 8:30 AM... starts fine... as long as i use some choke (manual) until warm, it runs ok (otherwise it spits fuel vapour out of the carb, and misses) runs fine all the way to work, no problems at all. I leave it all day, until: 5:00 PM, time to go home. it starts rough, and misses on either 1 cylinder, or even two. loud (and i mean LOUD) backfires, zero power, smells like petrol, my work mates think my car is a wreck. it's rough all the way home... turn it off, and its fine in the morning. key question, what the heck is going on??? why would 12 hours overnight be ok, but 8 hours in a parkinglot cause all hell to break loose? is the car afraid of my wife?
