  1. The 2000 head gaskets are about .5mm thinner then the 99 head gaskets
  2. Damn, I never thought about that. It looks like the gaskets for a 99 2.5 outback will work and are thicker. Good and bad. Good it will probably fix the diesel sound I hear. Bad, I get to do head gaskets again. Before I do, does this make sense about the sound and is in the probable fix.
  3. I used the new felpro gaskets for a phase 2 2.5 motor. But I did notice they say it also fits the phase 2 2.2. Should I have used something different
  4. Katskinz but they are really expensive. They're almost like getting reupholstered. You can Google them
  5. The o my problem with tensioner thought is this is a hybrid kind of motor I threw together from parts in my shop. The block is actually a 99 2.5 out of an outback and the heads are phase 2 2.2 out of a 99 legacy. It has the 2 bolt tensioner and rollers from the 2.5 block. Can I and should I change the tensioner to a 1 bolt style. Or stick with what I have and get a new 2 bolt tensioner
  6. I didn't even see the mm. My bad. Thank you. Looks like I have some work to do. Valves are set ok. So I will check the tensioner and hope for the best
  7. So am I screwed? I had the valves set at .009 and .012. I started it and it runs good but sounds like an old Mercedes diesel. I thought it was valves being loose, but if they're to tight, would that make it sound like that and did it probably damage something
  8. With all that work and that cost, why not just convert it to a sti motor. Less Coss and a lot less work. With the Mk ry you save you could build the motor to about 400 HP or more. A company in Spokane does a 600+ HP sti build for about 7k. Just a thought
  9. Also the idle is a bit high. All vacuum lines look good. Is there a way to adjust the idle
  10. I have searched everywhere and can't find the valve clearance for a 99 legacy 2.2. Does anyone knkw what they are. Thanks
  11. So I got it running. Started right up and runs good, but the valves are really loud. I set the valves at .008 and .010. Is that correct, or at least close.
  12. My buddy wants to buy his son a Subaru to tow his dirt bike around to races. The total weight of bike and trailer is about 600lbs with a tongue weight of about 40lbs. I recommended a Forester but his son is trying to convince him into a 02 wrx wagon with automatic. My question is, will the wrx handle it. I know it has the power, but being a turbo, will it take the extra abuse.
  13. I've done it a few times. Oreillys has plastic tees, 3/4 x 3/4 x 3/8, and 3/8 hose to go from the tee to the cut egr tube.
  14. What timing belt do I use? Phase 2 2.2 belt, or phase 2 2.5 belt, or are those actually the same belts. Also will it work with the older 2 bolt tensioner?
  15. Intakes should be the same, but use the original if it's good. Make sure to use the original flex plate from the 03. Other than that it should be direct swap.
  16. My son just bought coil over suspension for his 02 wrx wagon. Right now it sits on stock suspension and I noticed 2 things, the back end sits about 1/2" lower than the front and also the back wheels are (cambered?) a little. When we lower it, I assume the wheels will tilt even more. To straighten the wheels back out do we need to buy any parts, or can this be corrected when we get it aligned?
  17. What about the difference in the shifter itself. The 99 pulls straight back and the 2000 has the staggered shift
  18. Will an auto tranny from a 2000 outback work in my 99 outback
