  1. I'm about to pull the bad 2.5 out of the Forester and install my 2.2 from a 2001 Impreza into it. Both are 5 speed cars. I have the following questions. 1) which intake to use 2) which flex plate 3) do I need to use the cam pullies off the 2.5 Thanks
  2. Trannies will usually fit from car to car, but gearing is usually different from Forester to legacy or outback. Definitely find out tranny gearing and match it or you will have big problems in the future. Tranny has to match the rear diff gearing.
  3. I'm looking at a 2003 legacy with a 2.5. The guy just did head gaskets and used multi layer felpro. I have only dealt with mid 90s Subaru's and everyone says stay away from felpro. Is something different with newer models?
  4. It is, but still same exact issue so I thought I would throw it out there
  5. I pulled the pan yesterday and found a single blue wire broke. I was able to but splice it and all is good now. Thanks
  6. My sons 02 Wrx had a bad miss. We could also smell coolant a little. It ended up being the passenger side head gasket and his did not overheat. Replaced the head gasket and runs perfect with no more misfire code or miss
  7. A Subaru Mechanic I met swears that using the high temp cooler spray on the head gaskets when installing them is the best way to do them. Especially on the dual cam 2.5 Any thoughts? Thanks
  8. Here's a stupid thought, when I pulled the radiator not once but twice, I lost about a quart of tranny fluid total. I forgot to add some before starting it. Would that possibly throw a code
  9. Forget the code number but it said valve pump I believe and speedo works
  10. I have a 98 Forester with 175k on it. I just pulled the motor and replaced the blown head gasket. Now it's back together and as soon as I started it the atf temp light started flashing and won't stop. There is no variance in the flashing, its just constant. Any clue? Thanks
  11. I think it's a company called cometic that makes head gaskets for frankenmotors. Goggle them
  12. When you replaced the battery, there is a ground wire from the negative post to the fender wall. Mine came loose at the fender and caused me issues.
  13. I find the penetrating spray by sea foam works much better than anything else I have tried, including pb.
  14. Is the 2.5 in a 98 Forester the same as the 2.5 in a 98 outback? I have never worked on a Forester and I am looking to put a 98 2.2 in one. I have done it to an outback but not a Forester.
  15. So no pullies to change? And do I use 2.5 head gaskets? Thanks Dp213
  16. I know you can do it on the phase 1 motors with phase 1 heads. I'm just not sure about the phase 2
  17. Can I put 2.2 phase 2 heads from a 99 legacy on a 2001 2.5 block. The 2.5 has a broken timing belt and i have a new set of 2.2 heads sitting in my shop. Thanks
  18. I am trying to get the ac out if the way in a 2002 Wrx so I can pull the motor. The problem I have is a small rigid tube sticking up in the way of the back bottom bolt. I can't get anything on that bolt. What is the tube? It stops and is capped about an inch in front of the bolt and how can I get that bolt off. Thanks Dp213
  19. OK, I know it been beat like a dead horse, but I have a couple thoughts and questions. I am getting ready to build one and have a couple ideas, maybe. I'm building this for a 95 legacy 5 speed. Option 1, if I use a 2.5 phase 2 block from a 2002 with 95 2.2 heads, is it an interference or non interference motor? Option 2, I have a new set of 2002 Wrx dual cam 2.0 heads. Would that be a good combo with a 2.5 motor? I know I would have to change the ECU and wiring and I'm fine with that if its a better option. Or should I just be smart and do a basic 2.5 with my 2.2 heads? Any input would be welcomed. Thanks, Dp213
  20. I can't find a 99 phase 2 motor anywhere local. Would any other motor be a direct swap
