  1. Today it started doing the same thing again. Apparently I hadn't driven it long enough since the motor swap. Now I'm stumped. New knock sensor, fuel filter and pump, plugs and wires. Not sure what to think now. Maybe ecu?
  2. I did a new one knock sensor and it still did the same thing. Run fine for a while, then power loss. Swapped motor and all is well now. I used the intake (with knock sensor) from the old motor. Runs great and no power loss.
  3. Well, after taking it to a mechanic buddy. I found out the motor has internal problems. When rpms go up there is a faint knocking sound. The knock sensor is picking it up and retarding the timing. I am pulling the motor to replace it. At least I had another motor already sitting in my shop.
  4. So I put a new tps in it and same thing. Runs fine for a while then goes bad. Tps is now at zero and non responsive
  5. It's not about smash and tear, it's just Subaru alarms are troublesome at times, and not very well made. I have dealt with about 8 different Subarus from 1997 to 2003 that have had very odd and intermittent problems. The ALPINE system used in some of the models from 99 to 03 that I know of, (maybe even later) seem to caused more problems than not. They are a very simple system to remove and not have to cut or hack anything. And the remote key fob still works. Not trying to persuade anyone to pull it, but if it is a problem, it's very easy. T hats all.
  6. K9, if you find it and it's made by ALPINE (i believe) then it is the one you can just unplug.

  8. Btw, it was a 99 outback that had it mounted behind the ashtray. The 01 and 02 was beside the radio.
  9. +1 On beside the stereo. But I have had an 01 outback that had the same system but it was mounted behind the ashtray laying flat. Also if it is that system, you unplug it and be done. Alarm will be disabled but the remote fob will still be usable.
  10. No codes no cel. I did scan it and check live data and noticed my tps is flat lined at 0 while idling. I loosened it to adjust it and no change at all. Still 0. I am going to put a new one in tomorrow. I have noticed now that this lack of power only happens after driving for about 45 minutes. For the first 30-45 minutes it runs perfect. ?????
  11. I just got a 99 impreza sport wagon 2.2 5 speed 175k. The previous owner said it had a lack of power. After trailering it home, I drove it around for about 30 minuy es with no problem. I decided to do timing and reseal. Got done drove great for about an hour then started having problems they were talking about. It definitely has a lack of power at times. If I try, I can find the sweet spot with the gas pedal and it does great. A little to much or not enough and it loses power. If I floor it, it will kick in and run fine. It does this in all gears. I put a new fuel filter on it, because it was easy, but no change. Any help would be great. Thanks Dp
  12. Are ytou talking about the guide over the crank on a 5 speed suby
  13. Google, how do you get the bottom screw out? So I need to remove the steering wheel and everything. Thanks Dp
  14. It is under the dash all thw way on the left side. My 97 outback had issues so I removed it. I had to jump 3 pairs of wires so the door locks would work and it would start. Google 97 outback security bypass for the video. The guy explains really well on what to do.
  15. So I finally played with this car a little. I have 12 volts to the starter when key is in start position. The car usually st arts fine, but sometimes I have to hold the key in the start position for 4-5 seconds before it starts. Wouldn't that be a starter solenoid issue? Thanks

  17. My apologies. I thought I had selector on floor, but I didn't, it was on mix. The fans shut off when I went to only heat, no defrost. So is it normal for them to run constant when in defrost mode
  18. The fans on my impreza are constantly running, even when key is on and car is not running. When it is running the temp stays right iin the middle. I checked the green plugs under the dash and they are not plugged in.
