98 gt no start
dp213 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I replaced both. Guess I will look into a push button starter -
My 98 gt sometimes will not start. No cranking or nothing. I can here a relay under the dash clicking when I turn the key but that's it. Usually after 5 or 10 minutes of waiting it starts right up. This will happen first thing in the morning or after driving, doesn't matter. I have replaced the starter and the ignition.

03 legacy
dp213 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
It was a misfire with no code, just flashing engine light. New coil pack fixed it. Thank you all for the input. -
03 legacy

Converter seems good. Now that i have glanced at it. The power steering pump has leaked all down the front of the motor. Tomorrow i am going to open up the timing covers and see how much fluid is in there. Maybe jumped timing because of a lot of atf fluid on the belt? -
I just r2placed a 2.5 with high miles and bad head gasket in an 03 legacy with a jdm 2.0. The car ran perfect for about 2 days. Now it threw a po420 code and barely runs. The check engine light is also flashing. I've never had that code change how a car runs. I'm thinking coincidence, and something else is going on, but there are no other codes. Any suggestions. Thanks

Phase 1 ej22 (1990-1998) (1990-1996 non interference and 1990-1995 non interference dual port) will work in 1998 and earlier legacy, 1999 and earlier outback, and 1998 only forester. Anything later than those years is phase 2 and it won't work. (Unless you have a phase 2 2.2. Then the list is different.

98 outback
dp213 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I tried that and it didn't work. There is no alarm system that I can find and it looks like an aftermarket key fob -
2.5 swap

You can just use the intake from the 96 and everything will be exactly the same -

A friend has a 98 5 speed outback. His flashers will randomly blink sometimes. Should be an alarm issue, but here's the problem. I have looked everywhere for an alarm system and can't find one. I have looked where my 97 outback has one and I've looked where the 99 outback has them and nothing. I found the reset button and followed the wires, but they were cut off and went no where. Also the red security light is gone. He has remote entry that works, but does not reset the alarm and the door lock button doesn't reset it either. Any one have any thought. And no, it's not the parking light button on the column :-). Thanks Dp213

fuel pump woes
dp213 replied to awdonry's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
We just replaced the main grounds in the engine bay and added 1 more to the passenger side strut tower. I think we used 4awg grounds because they were available with ends on them at of all places, tractor supply. -

My son's 02 wrt had thhe same problem. I fought it for months and 3 pumps. I finally replaced all the ground wires in the engine bay. Some looked ok and mostt looked good, but after doing that we have had no problems yet and it's been 8 months -
If your talking about the cable that hooks to the side of the tranny from the shifter, you most likely have the bracket upside down that holds the cable to the tranny. I have done it and was baffled because everything looked right, but that bracket can mount either way and the wrong way makes the cable about 1/2" to short.
