I am working on a 03 Impreza TS, it has a p0031 code. The car has 94k original miles and in great shape. The code is for the upstream sensor so I unplugged it and was checking for ground. It's a 4 wire sensor, does that not ground to the chassis. The downstream sensor does. Anyone know if the black wire grounds to chassis or where it does. By the way, I'm checking the harness side. Thanks

Well, it quit working again. I did some trouble shooting and found 12 volts at the fuse but only 5.9 volts to the pump I plugged it back in and it worked fine again. I don't know what to think now. Is the harness going to the pump replaceable? -

He only runs premium gas and no additives. He's good about keeping it filled and not running it low. We put a new one in yesterday at his place and he's going to come out this week so we can test things, line voltage, fuel pressure before and after regulator We did use a walbro before, this time we went with what is supposed to be OEM but I'm not sure. It is kayoto or something. We will see what happens. -
93 Impreza swap
dp213 replied to dp213's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Update Yes knock went away at higher rpms so I rolled the dice and found a used turbo on cl for $100 :-) and bought it. Swapped it yesterday and when I started it it made the same exact sound for about 1 minute, then the knock went away. So with that, I'm guessing the old turbo wasn't getting oil or something. Not sure but I'm pretty happy. I'm now $150 I to this car and today I will probably take it for its first drive ???? -
I picked up a 93 Impreza. It has a complete 03 WRX swap done. Motor, tranny, and suspension. I was told the motor has a rod knock, but I wanted to hear for myself. I got it started the other day and I do hear a knock. It's only at idle and it's loud. I used a stethoscope and it sounds like it is the turbo that's making the noise. Is that even possible?

Low MPG

Are you getting 20 mpg or in the 20s? The best I've done is about 22 combined hwy and city -
If they used something to support the tranny and did that in the pan, then it might have slightly bent the pan. If so it may have damaged something in the tranny. There is almost no clearance inside the tranny pan so any slight bend can damage it internally. I know this only because I did it myself to my own subaru and broke a connection on the valve body I believe. I'm not exactly sure because I had a tranny shop fix it.

Usually it requires a new switch. I am doing the switch in my 98 today. The door panels come off very easy, 1 screw hidden under a call on the inside door handle and 1 screw hidden by a bigger cap on the arm rest. There is also 1 plastic pop in clip where the door is covered by the dash when shut. After that start at the bottom and pull. It will pop out if the inside clips then lift up and it's out. For the switch you will have to pull a lot of small screws that hold the cover on the back side of the door panel. Make sure that you plug in the new switch and test it before putting it back together

It probably won't hurt, but some winter tires are made to run in temps below 42 degrees. So watch which ones you run if your going to run them year round. Also because they are much softer rubber, you need to watch the wear on them. They will go quite fast and if not watched or noticed you will end up in a bad situation when the road is wet and your running slicks.

My 97 outback randomly goes into security mode. The 4 corner lights flash and it won't start. I don't have a remote for it and when I hit the lock/unlock button it doesn't help. I have to pull the negative battery cable, turn the key to the on position and then hook the cable back up. When I do that it starts right up. Any ideas. Can I just unhook the security system. Thanks Dp
