Brat Ignition Lock Cylinder Stuck
Hsoj replied to 6 Star's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Get a good bit of triflow in that lock first and wiggle that key around, it might just come out easier than you think. Compressed air might help free some stuff up too. Its easier to replace the whole lock assembly (the column lock and all) than get the cylinder out IMHO. Once you get the whole assembly out you might be able to fix it on the bench too. A good lock shop might be able to help with parts too. -
oil pressure gauge pegging on startup
Hsoj replied to Hsoj's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm thinking its a bad component to the dash but Ill check the sender and wiring. The dash was fried by the alt and thats when the prob started but I'll double check everything. -
I got codes thrown from having the wrong injectors in my 90 lego auto I used for a swap. I had no luck with swapping in a 92 ecu either, it wouldnt run.

I just got an 84 gl that had a bad dash. The previous owner had the alternator kill two batteries before he figured it out. It killed the power to the whole thing. I found one short on the back of the dash and fixed that, giving me power to the dash but the oil pressure gauge pegs as soon as you turn the key. Anyone know how to fix this? Ive heard its a not unheard of problem and I have a spare dash or two for parts.

The hard part of using the markets current air suspension setup is coming up with the cash. At over $400 a corner just for the struts it gets out of hand fast. Some companies will make you a strut, but thats expensive. I'm sure there is an option out there. Even land rovers use a sleeve style air bag crimped on to a strut body. That leaves the strut at less than 5" diameter fully deployed. http://www.jcwhitney.com/air-springs/subaru-outback/c11299d13233j1s21.jcwx Here is for the outback http://thmotorsports.com/i-508877.aspx?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=5088771996SUBARUIMPREZA&utm_campaign=GoogleShoppingSeanVehSpec&adtype=pla&kw=&gclid=CLq5kfOCtr8CFQphfgodFxcAlw an impreza And there are a lot more out there. Now the OP's xt has some of the parts already installed and so the full kit wont be needed but the rest of the system is out dated. Something to consider as well. All the air suspension system on the market started with these big semi trucks. These are all being run all across the country on every big truck you see everyday. Try that with some soapy water!

Looking at strut/suspension options...
Hsoj replied to Hsoj's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok, thanks. Anyone have any experience with Gabriel struts? Any preferences anyone have? Id like to stick with a quality product. -
Try adding extra grounds or separating out your ground lines so you're not getting feedback up some line. I remember that was an issue with my swap.

Where is GD's writeup? That should still be avaliable for questions regarding head flow and using up old parts. -

http://www.universalairsuspension.com/store2/catalog/universal-suspension-aero-sport-universal-p-31.html This looks promising but expensive. What do you think? -
So I found this difficult to believe. I cant fing the kyb gr2 part number listed for the brat. Did they stop making them? If so what's the next best option? I was looking at these air runner systems for air springs and they bolt on over the kyb so I was going to inquire......

He was a great man in this community and will be greatly missed. I wish peace to you all and all his family and friends. Ed helped me out a lot here and was always a very genuine person. My condolences to all.

Search for this.. build thread off wrx pickup. I'm really wanting to do this too. In the world of cars there is no reason why one cant do it. The real question is do you have the time, space and money. Once I fix my donor motor, (96 outback) Im setting out to accomplish this as well. I dont see why you cant figure out the lift geometry to build a central frame or corner assemblies to accept both assemblies and a rear modification to accept the rear struts and all the reinforcements. Yes it might be a 6" lift.....I havent put any numbers on paper yet. I just got a CLEAN 84 wagon (bad trans and carb) and I'm prepping the ground. After watching a tin lizzy shell get dropped on a custom frame and all the parts put together (it took 2 years, this fellow is now working on a custom 37 ford), I think anything is possible.....even by the backyard mechanic. My brat took over a year to ej and 5 speed swap from when I started the plan and buying parts. Ferox, we should compare notes in the next few months. I should have a preliminary draft done by the end of summer. Yo'J

Yo! Its been a while! Im sure I'll be talking with you all soon again! I've pulled some fun mods since I've been off with an account that wouldnt work amd I'll show them off soon. Meanwhile... someone stole my turnsignals saturday night of my 1982 lifted wagon. Right in front of my house in north seattle. So, someone with an 82 gl is a thief. Watch out! Yo'J
