  1. After getting the springs off, I looked at the stem tops. (Might be wrong term, not valves, but the tops of tunnel in head). On one head an exhaust top is sitting lower (far left in pic). Both intakes are low, but even, I think normal. Could it have been pushed when compressing spring? Was it bad before? Will it go back? On the other head an exhaust top has no valve stem seal (rubber with ring spring), just the metal top. But they sit at the same height because the one with a seal is further into the head. (pics go Good, Bad, Top of Bad) How bad is this?
  2. I'm trying to get mine out now. One fell out on its own, 2 more fell out with some hammering on wood on the backside. 5 to go. Cleaned, sprayed then soaked overnight with brake cleaner. No go. Cleaned, dried, then soaked overnight with PB Blaster. No go. Got one out with pliers, in pieces -- top part pulled off, then pryed the rest out with flathead. Still have 4 left. All spin freely. Tried pliers a gazillion times. Magnets too. Any tips for getting them out without breaking? Will the broken one be okay once I clip the top back on?
  3. Okay, I have a few questions about some of these... 2x cam o-ring - are these the two rings on the actual shaft? 2x cam seal - on the front engine end of shaft behind pulley? Subaru part #'s for these? (didn't find in online catalog)
  4. I don't know about the RTV. I'm about to do mine and was planning to use a gasket. After getting both surfaces completely clean (scraping and solvents), I always wipe them down with brake cleaner (on a clean, lint-free rag) and watch it evaporate right before putting the gasket on.
  5. When is someone from the board going to start making these?
  6. Any feedback on the wet cylinders? It was hot enough to make the oil smell burnt, are the rings gone? I didn't comp. test it. Why moly grease? What about anti-sieze? For new bolts would I go to SOA or a hardware shop like maybe Fastenal? RC engineering has a package on the way. T-stat acquired. Still no OE parts...
  7. Heads are off. Bolts were very nasty. One is still stuck. I think there is some oil in cylinders 2 & 4. 1 & 3 are dry. Fried rings or HG?
  8. Dinner time. 1-3 side head off. Most of the head bolts were completely covered in black stuff, had to use a big breaker bar to turn 2 of them. Got stuck sliding out of head, Blaster, hammmer and punch got them out. Lots of carbon on pistons and exhaust.
  9. Great caption, you learn something new everyday!
  10. Radiator is here. Gaskets not ordered yet :-\.... I think I'm gonna send my injectors to RC Engineering. Jason, I'm looking forward to the meet. I need to fix my four-wheelin body damage by then. The front metal under bumper is bent to crap.
  11. Hypothetically speaking, how would the transit time / price / availablity change to have a full set imported if you didn't get in on the group buy?
  12. It was dirty with 16.5 years and over 200k miles. Then I went off-roading with some local board members, including a hood-deep mud pond. I still have dried clay-mud lodged in every open area, after removing a couple dozen dustpans worth. I will be checking the turbo.
  13. Ditto. Show him you don't have a badge and are not wired.
  14. The double-row I linked to in the first post is the one I ordered. It is 1-5/8" thick vs 11/16" for the single-row, according to their specs. Will make things tighter with the fan, but that's gotta go sometime .
  15. I called Radiator.com, asked about using for high-pressure oil. He said it was a good question, asked the master tech. He said "he said it sure should be able to handle the pressure." Soo... I think I'm gonna try it. Gotta do some more google-ing when I'm in class. Flex-a-Lite adapter 3961 is the correct thread with stock filter? mmmm... SS lines...
  16. Hmmmm... I was planning on getting like 100psi-rated hose, but I didn't think about pressure in the radiator. Coolant only gets like 10-20 psi... My Chrysler with an auto has tranny cooled in radiator and a dedicated unit in front of AC condenser. Crap. I thought I had it figured out. Must find info.
  17. I am looking for an oil cooler that will fit an EA82. I just need the part between pump and filter. I plan to run it through the radiator. Who has one? Who makes them? What are the thread and mounting specs for a universal one? Where can I find? I don't mind having to change oil filters for a new thread size.
  18. Yes. $10. Should, but I'm no expert. They have a single-row version for $109. I was referred to RadiatorExpress.com by Radiator.com
  19. The 260 mild/mid-range. "Low-end torque, mid-range power." Radiator ordered as well.
  20. I ordered it already. It's a 2-row, all metal, lines for oil / tranny fluid. Made by CSF, like the one I pulled from the car. Did CSF do the OE radiators, or did I already have a replacement?
  21. Just talked to Scott at Delta Camshaft. He has a pair in stock! Most likely grinding today! He said it would be just under $200 with the 40 core and shipping to Ohio.
