  1. I have that clutch too! With a Sachs XT6 pressure plate. 5k launches are neat!
  2. direct fit replacements, EJ perches, or custom order?
  3. I took my wagon's master switch apart... every contact has a thick black carbon layer. I'd imagine cleaning will help a bit.
  4. My lines were full of debris. It looked like someone dumped a cup of dirt and leaves into the tank. I removed the lines, saw how nasty they were, and decided it would be easier to replace them than to fix. I'm pretty sure I used 1/4" I.D. clear nylon tubing. I also had to unclog the squirters. That was a pita. Lots of water, compressed air (from my mouth), and poking with a tiny sewing needle. Of course that was all after I bought a universal pump for $17.
  5. The first connector is for 4wd, I think. The white one is to check ECU error codes. The green one is for ECU "test mode." Connect them to set timing. I could be wrong on all three of course.
  6. I have used Seafoam and MMO in the oil, but didn't see anything special drain out. I also ran straight ATF for about 15 mins at idle for a flush. Then fresh thinner-than-normal oil and filter for 100 miles, then another oil and filter change. None of that was on soobs. When I had my EA82T apart with 220K miles, I manually scraped varnish chunks and cleaned everything with solvent. I would try pure diesel for a minute. If that sounds scary, you could try a lower concentration first and see what happens.
  7. I don't actually know, but I was told that tranny coolers are on the low pressure return side.
  8. I was thinking of doing the same thing with my new radiator. I couldn't find a consensus, but I decided against it because AT fluid gets run thru the cooler at low pressure, engine oil would always be at high pressure, coolant goes thru the radiator at like 20psi max, don't know what the radiator is capable of taking without blowing. You could always get the sandwich adapter (Flex-a-lite makes one), run it thru the ratiator AT lines, and pay very close attention for leaks / blowouts. Oh, and carry suitable tools and a full capacity of extra oil.
  9. Corner + wet road + 25mph constant winds with 40+ gusts + good chance of black ice. And I found out today that my front tires have no tread in the middle - bald, baby! Slid sideways, into ditch, tried to get back on road - nope, tried to drive into empty field - nope. Long wet ditch grass and 45* banks don't make for good traction. The ditch's "V" shape guided me into the pole. The tracks looked like an ATV playing around. I would have driven away if I could, unfortunately it wouldn't restart. Walked 1.3 miles home (into the 25mph 30*F wind wearing a t-shirt) with a backpack and 3 bags. I was wearing my seatbelt. Maybe a 2% chance of survival if I wasn't. Also quite fortunate that the downed wire laying on my roof wasn't live. Got busted up good, couldn't move for a few days, missed 3 weeks of work (physical job), chipped 4 teeth. Airbags would have been nice. Too bad I never installed a 5-point harness...
  10. Metal utility pole at 40-50 mph. Completely flattened the cross-section and bent it over onto my roof. After getting crushed in, everything got pushed up and pulled forward. Both exhaust bolts at cat connection broke and pipes seperated. Engine pulled tranny, tranny pulled drive shaft, driveshaft pulled rear diff. Diff mount pulled forward, bucked rear seats inside, broke mounting bracket. Dog bone is at an 80 degree angle. And this was about 5k after my rebuild. Brand new oil pump, water pump, radiator, everything else. I am trying to get everything swapped to the red coupe for some sand dunes over the 4th.
  11. Sounds good... Strip the interior to run wires and soundproof. Steam clean the carpet and seats while they're out. Will definitely add to the luxury. Oh, and take pics of the whole process!
  12. http://www.radiatorbarn.com http://www.radiatorexpress.com (they might be the same company...?) They were both helpful on the phone, just ask if they ship up north. 2-row all-metal upgrade w/ AT lines (I used this in my RX) http://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1986+SUBARU+RX++%2D+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+Name+Brand+NON+TURBO+2%2DRow+All+Metal+Upgrade&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1270189 As far as I know from my research, any of them from 85-94 will fit (EA82(T), not EA81 or EJ's). Subaru OEM radiator hoses are the same part# for top and bottom as well. Whatever you get to work, keep this updated for future reference.
  13. That's a good price! The MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do is NOT OVERHEAT IT!!! First thing you should do is find the cause of that. It could probalby use a new radiator, water pump, thermostat, and timing belts. It's easiest to do them all at once. You will find that Subaru/FHI OEM parts are best and most prices are very competitive with aftermarket stuff. OEM parts: http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/ http://www.subarugenuineparts.com/ Both are dealers in WA, prices are about identical. I have ordered from and would reccomend both. I have a list of all the part#s I have used too. New radiator: http://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1986+SUBARU+RX++%2D+1%2E8+liter+H4+RADIATOR+Name+Brand+NON+TURBO+2%2DRow+All+Metal+Upgrade&part_id=40020&aaia_id=1270189 all-metal, 2-row upgrade. (ignore the non-turbo part, they fit the same) ~$135 shipped We're here to help. Just remember to search first.
  14. Front pads can be replaced with front pads from a 90-94? Legacy with 14" wheels. or something like that. Only difference is that they don't have a "peg" for the e-brake, but I had no issues. I got EBC GreenStuff like that from boxer4racing.com.
  15. My Gen3 turbo heads do have the EGR port on the left (2-4) side.
  16. 88 RX Coupe - 235000 miles - totalled - RIP 91 Loyale Wagon - SPFI, manual pushbutton - 158000 miles - running at 30mpg
  17. Be careful with the brass brush. They can scratch aluminum. I got my heads resurfaced for $35 each, but I had a lot more stuff done too. If the cracks are questionable, it would be a good idea to have the heads pressure checked. ...might as well get a valve job done too
  18. 220K... the bearings were probably original. YEAH! A good reminder to take care of "routine maintainence" stuff before you get stranded because of it. *cough* timing belts
  19. Free tires are always a good thing. Especially when they're new! ...and when they're 15's for an RX. How wide are those alloys? (FYI for anyone wanting wide 15s: 205/50 is the closest to stock 185/70 circumference / speedo.)
  20. Maybe it's one of those easy-flush fittings?
