Over the shoulder belt wouldn't retract and after I rolled the belt back into the mechanism, it won't reel out. OK so it's not a Subaru but I think they are all the same. It's on the rear deck of a Toyota Camry and I don't have time to get it to a dealer and imperil kids in the back. Please administrator don't bannnish this post to the lonely off topic page... I need help.

Look carefully (Hint: use a flash light NOT your cigarette lighter) at the lines leading from the tank. It is the right location and vintage for rust to be eating out the little "fuel dampers" along the route. They look like the size of a very pregnant silver dollar. I eliminated it without any harm to the system and installed a direct fuel line and voila no more leak. I hope your fix is as easy and not a rusted or damaged fuel tank. If this is the case, there are a variety of clamps and hoses. Have 2 pencils ready to plug the gas line once you've disconnected it, splice in the new piece and away you go.

Butt ugly! Why not just go out and buy the Murano (also Butt ugly). I bought the MY 05 OB to go with the last MY design change 00 Legacy. It seems they are now trying too hard... you'll never get a date behaving like that! -
Are those pumps any good for changing fluids worthwhile. I'm about to change gear oil if I ever find the front diff plug and tranny fluid. It's a 2000 GT Legacy pretty low to ground and I can see and access the tranny drain plug but not the front diff plug (where is it??). No ramps or stands and I'm getting older!

At 41K miles SOA replaced my AT transmission under warranty on my 2000 Legacy GT. Trying to figure when to change fluids, I am uncertain about the diff fluid. Would they have needed to replace the front diff fluid at the time they changed the tranny or is it unrelated and completely sealed off by itself?

I have the same oil in the spark plug hole and have been told that there are O-rings that need to be replaced. Too bad this discovery appears 2K miles past 60K warranty! My 2000GT was running like crap until I replaced the spark plugs. SOA does recommend the wires at 60K as well but I just did the plugs. Remarkable difference. You can get the NGK plugs from 1stsubaruparts.com (aka Liberty Subaru in N.J.) for $2.09US a piece. Get you order together and save on shipping by combining items. You might have some more local discounters in Canada. BTW I understand there are some 55,000,000 US voters looking for safe haven in Canada.

I will hope that one of the Grand Poobahs of Subarus will chime in but isn't there something about letting the car run without touching the gas at initial startup to reset the computer to new engine conditions? I have used the battery disconnect to erase codes on my 90 Loyale but read somewhere about this other technique around these boards.

High pitched whine in 2000 Legacy GT Over the last 3-4 months, I have been noticing a whine which seems to come from forward of the passenger compartment. Been trying to narrow down the cause of this but the best I have been able to do is determine that it only comes on when the engine is under load/open throttle. If I'm driving on the freeway, it comes and goes as I press/release the accelerator. While on cruise control, it also comes and goes when the car is trying to accelerate uphill, etc. Am certain it does not correlate to engine speed. If I release the accelerator at 70mpg (and note that rpms stay high), the whine goes away immediately. My thoughts are that is has somehow to do with the injectors or throttle?? Any other thoughts or similar experiences?

Electrical is very linear. Don't be intimidated. The fact that you have a problem with a branch of the circuitry involving plate lights and rear washer as well as the rear actuator would point you to a junction or multiconnector where they all come together as the culprit. I don't have Haynes but check to see if by chance these three items are on one fuse and make certain WITH YOUR OHMETER that the fuse governing this area is OK. If they are not on the same fuse or the fuse tests OK. Then check out the electrical schematic (does Haynes have one) and follow the lines. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Are you a renter, coop or condo owner of the apartment? Did they tow you to a legal spot close by or drag you by the nostrils some distance away? Just curious. Though the liability remains with the towing company, you probably would also name the owner of the building in a lawsuit as they contracted for the tow. You may have to pay for the tow but THEY are responsible for rendering a professional service and liable for damage to your car.

For the past few weeks, when first turning wheels (actually as they are returning to center), there is a sound from the front right (passenger) side that sounds like the wrong answer buzzer on Jeopardy. It seems from the right side of engine/tire area. It only happens once at new startup and lasts just a second. Legacy GT 2000 ABS? I'd try another answer but I'm sure I'll get the wrong answer buzzer so I'm throwing it out to you for a try.
