  1. "oily Loyale"? Is there any other kind of Loyale. Great that Moosens has parts for.... EVERYTHING! Good to meet y'all. Safe driving.
  2. Doesn't seem that the class action was allowed by the courts! So what is the next best step? The time frame seems shorter than the class action mentioned but I guess you'd be better off spending your time pleading your own case. They have the law power to wear you down. Contact SOA directly and ask how THEY have decided to respond to the well documented problem with these HGs. Speak of their supposed reputation for reliability. If they balk,at least ask if they will make accomodations to purchase of new vehicle since you may still be inclined to trust their reliability.
  3. John, I agree with your sentiments. Unfortunately SOA has tried to keep this problem quiet. This website is an aberation from the norm in that there are many here who are real car enthusiasts. Cars are not sold just to this type but rather to the many others who barely know where the gas filler cap is located. The newer Subes don't seem to share the reliability of the 1st Gen variety and the price tag has certainly strayed from the utilitarian. Still I recently bought an 05 OB i Ltd and this is now the 4th Sub I've owned. If you bought the 99 from a dealer, I would think you should have received the courtesy of advisory and extended coverage. As I stated earlier, I wasn't sure if the 99 was covered for external HG leaks but you seem confident so, contact SOA and beat them 'till they are dead and then kick them twice afterwards. Wait for a response and then repeat the procedure mentioned above. G'luck
  4. Not sure but I think the recall and coolant additive that extended warranty to 100K on HG was on MY 2000 and up and applied to external head gasket leaks. I believe yours is the internal HG leak which SOA never acknowledged as being a problem... just a cash cow for repairs!
  5. Are there any tried and true leather care products/techniques? I'd like to maintain that new leather look as long as possible but I wonder if it is a losing battle. I ignored this on my sofa (under a skylight and UV effects) and eventually it cracked and faded. I'm hoping my 05 lasts "forever" and the leather interior doesn't give away its age over time.
  6. Bump Bump Bump I'm hoping to get as many who can to show up. The last time I was there I willingly pushed an inoperable 80 something with flat tires. My old back can't do it alone. Perhaps we can have a faith healing session at the Subaru Church of the Resurrection.
  7. Those pictures.... come on... seems merely a flesh wound.
  8. Anyone out there have any experience shipping autos? I need to ship a car from Connecticut to North Carolina. It's not exactly road worthy otherwise I'd drive it.
  9. I'm thunkin' the same way but have never been inside the column. Any explorers out there who know the way?
  10. Thanks for the caution regarding discharge of system. I still need help in diagnosing air bag light staying on as well as what to expect is preventing the steering wheel from staying in the highest tilt position.
  11. In July, I bought my wife a 2005 Outback Legacy 2.5 i Ltd with auto. I got prices as high as 28,200 and eventually bought for 26,800 with free lifetime oil changes. I bought from Dan Perkins Subaru but later heard of deals at least as good at Danbury Subaru both here in Ct.. Shop on the internet or call the above directly
  12. Turns out I was up at Oobnuker's today and the steering column avec airbag was already gone. I will try and deal with the issues on the current 93 Legacy without the benefit of transplant. How do I diagnose an airbag light that is always on? How do I get the steering wheel to stay in the highest tilt position? The good news is that the oobman set me up with door panels (tan) that I installed in anotherwise blue interior (the originals had become a dog chew). The car now has all the charm of a pair of two toned shoes.
  13. For someone who claims to know zip about these cars, you certainly picked a "zippy" car. Lots of luck and safe driving.
  14. How hard is it to swap a steering wheel/column(?) and airbag from a donor car? Both cars are 1993 Legacy L models. The bad one doesn't hold at the highest tilt adjustment position and the airbag light is on all the time. I don't have a manual and am hoping it is intuitive.
  15. Life was certainly simpler before the invention of the Check Engine Light.
  16. Water is not as innocuous as it would seem at first glance... you can drown in that stuff. BTW thanks for alerting me to other potential concerns (Snif, snif..is that engine oil? OH MY LORD, the engine is toast. Hmm, does my car smell warmer today? Does it always make that little clonk noise? Did it take two milliseconds longer to start this morning?) I must become more vigilant! Reminds me of the Mel Gibson movie "Road Worrier".
  17. After I park my 2000 Legacy GT on a sloped driveway (nose down) there is a puff of white "smoke" when I start up and back out of the driveway. This has happened a few times. Is this the result of water condensate backing up into the cat and burning off? I don't know if it is related but I have occasionally smelled glycol while driving under no apparent pattern of driving conditions. I have had the head gasket treatment installed in the coolant system and fear that I may simply have developed a psychosomatic "head"ache, overly concerned about the day that my head blows up.
  18. Andy, I am trained in CPR so if you just make a quick stop and pick up CALEBZ in Texas on the way to Connecticut, we may yet be able to save him... and then put in some time on the Subaru as well. If we can't save him... well then we'll just have more time to work on the cars. I've got dibs on his GL-10 just in case.
  19. As you travel east through Vegas and then on to Texas, make a left turn and head up to Connecticut. Good help is hard to find.
  20. Thanks. I did the handbrake lever adjustment beneath the console and it seems to be adequate for nowl
  21. Hey Vicky, Who said it was a 16 y/o boy. In fact it is a girl, daughter of a friend. We live in a very wealthy community and I am so impressed that she hasn't turned her nose up at the car. I did all the body work today (holes the size of my head) and she's so excited. She doesn't seem to mind the dog chew interior (and smell to boot). I just want her to see that things can be repaired and made useful. One day we may see her on the site complaining about the guy who trashed her car in the parking lot (sound familiar?) and rest assured that repairs are possible. Regards.
